Watchtower Library/ Research Help?

i just recently downloaded the newest version of wt library cd-rom (2010).

but wt's only go back as far as 1950, and awakes 1970.. is anybody aware of a database or piece of software which allows you access to old wt's of russell's day or other older jw publications?.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!.

one thing I have found is that ex-JW's are really knowledgable about the society and a lot of other topics involving the WT and its history

my name is brett w., and i am senior undergraduate student at the university of florida.

First of all, great research! I will have to check that website out! It is nice to know that some are talking about my project across the internet. Make no mistake, this whole controversy will be documented for my thesis. The level of suspicion has really thrown me for a loop.

So...now what is the consensus on me? That I AM indeed a student, but now I am not a JW? This forum's opinions change with the winds.

Like I said, who you think or don't think I am is immaterial. I was simply recruiting for my project. If you don't believe in an aspects of that, fine. I wish we could be talking and discussing more about the topic of my research, than pages upon pages of questioning who I am.

And it should come to no one's surprise that I am not your model JW. I am in college, studying political science, with aspirations to go into the field of law. Not to mention that I am visiting this site.

Much like everyone here, I have received a lot of grief from family for the way I have chosen to live my life. I value and education and see importance in politics. Most in the religion do not value these things, and I didn't, until I decided I didn't want to work at Walmart...that I wanted to do something with my life, and went to college.

I still believe in the religions fundamental truths (non-trinitarian, Jehovah is God, the paradise, no fiery hell, ect.). I have very little faith in the 1914 doctrine, but only deservedly so. I have also questioned other aspects that I would rather not get into.

In conclusion, think what you want, it is inconsequential. But if you now accept the fact I am a student, and simply want to question my loyalty as a JW, then I am finished with this site...because I get enough of that in my real daily life.

Also, I am in the midst of writing a paper on Chinese foreign policy, due at 9 am tomorrow. While tempted, I cannot continue to spend time bickering back and forth for the time being.

Your basic objective analysis and simple online research is refreshing! In addition, I am not a frequent visitor to this site and am unaware of common "hoaxes" and such. I do not know what the purpose in such would be.

If obtaining a university email is so readily accessible and easily attained, please obtain a @yale.edu and email me! Otherwise your proposition is hollow.

You still do not seem to fully comprehend why I am not entertaining your request. Allow me to elucidate. It is the principle of the matter, and more pragmatically the lack of interest I have in utilizing your services as an interviewee. I will not succomb to your request simply to "prove" myself to you. I have no such invested interest in doing so. You may be successful in bullying others to get your way, but you will reap no such benefit with this party.

A simple cursory search yields James Beckford's, "The Trumpet of Prophecy", as well as cited by "An Introduction to Research and Analysis of Jehovah's Witnesses: A View from the Watchtower" by Carolyn R. Wah used the phrases "defected [Jehovah's] Witnesses".

Let's put this topic to rest since it has everything to do with syntax and nothing to do with my research :)

I am looking for those who were once of the mind of a JW, and then who for one reason or another left the organization. You would not of necessarily had to of been baptized. I was not baptized until I was 20 years old, but that does not mean my mind was already not trained to think like a JW. If you were never full 'engrossed' in the religion, no I think it would be best if you did not participate. Thank you for your inquiry.

I am disappointed in myself that I am even wasting the time to respond to such vacuous criticisms.

All survey methods involve a trade-off and costs and benefits. It is very difficult to design a survey to be tailored to everyone's individual needs. I have weighed the cost/benefit ratio of not including a "neutral" or "i don't know" option. If I could depend on those surveyed to take a stance on difficult issues and only to choose an "i dont know" option exclusively in the case when they honestly didn't know, I would have provided one. But often is the case, an "i dont know" option is simply an easy way out of answering a difficult question. My method seeks to avoid the 'zero-effect', when your audience is prone to be attracted to the "neutral category". Of course, JWs and their fascination with erroneously using with the term neutral, would hide in such category for almost every question I asked if such a category was provided. Acquiescence is also greatly found in agree/disagree formats which include the neutral category. Acquiescence can be avoided by using a force-choice response method, thus eliminating the neutral category. I'd rather have good but imperfect data than no data at all.

Again, trade-offs.

A self-administered survey (like the method I have elected to go with) offers the greatest privacy. There is no possibility of interviewer bias influencing the participants responses. Privacy is increased and bias is eliminated even further by the fact all responses are anonymous and are taken from the comfort of your own home and within your own time-table. The participant neither feels rushed, nor compelled to answer a difficult question with a socially correct answer. In addition, due to a self-administered survey answers will not be modified when the observable traits of an interviewer are are related to the question.

i.e.

Women and men are more likely to express feminist-liberal positions when interviewed by a women

White respondents are less likely to express negative sentiments to Black interviewers (and vice versa)

This reduces any effects of social desirability bias.

And finally, please reread my final statement from my previous post. You can continue to insult my school, my intelligence and the mindfulness of my professor all you want. But it will not get you anywhere. If you are so educated, shouldn't you realize that personal attacks are not going to render you privy to confidential information. Simply because I won't reveal sensitive information to a petulant blogger who wants her stubborn way, doesn't mean I am not who I claim to be. Anyone here can take my word for it, or not. It is inconsequential to me.

Again, if you do not want to participate in my survey, then don't! If your own outlandish paranoia haunts you, then your participation would not be "voluntary", and I encourage then NOT to take my survey. I am looking for cooperative, interested individuals who simply wish to opine what they think concerning issues of the day

I think many of you are confusing the term "defected" for "defective"...which is entirely different. This is not my mistake, it is yours.

Merriam-Webster: Defect: to forsake one cause, party, or nation for another often because of a change in ideology
