Would you have married your spouse if you weren't both JWs?
by 3rdgen inok, i've had some wine, but i'm curious.
objectively speaking, but for the religion, did you have enough in common with your spouse to have met and married as non believers?

I had quit going to meetings from age of 18 to 22. Was 22 in 1974. My mother instilled the 1975 scare in me. Figured I needed to straighten my life up & my mother mentioned Deb had just broken off her engagement with another brother. I saw my chance, courted her & married her in 1975. Love didn't even come into the equation. I was more concerned with not dying. I figured I learn to love her in "Paradise" just a few short months away. We fought constantly. I stayed in the relationship for 34 years. Finally found the love of my life & filed for divorce. Of course got DF'd which was the best thing to ever happen to me. Read C of C & I was out. Would I have married her if I wasn't a witness? I never would have met her. Then again, I never would have met my current wife. Was it worth 34 years of my life? I don't think so..... -

They closed 2 more halls here in upstate NY that I know of. Still haven't figured out why the hoarding of all this cash. Can they be that afraid of pending & future lawsuits? Oh, and by the way, the R&F I talk to are clueless. So much for the work SPEEDING UP as end draws near. -

you have been a great help in my process of waking up from this cult posing as the one true religion.

(Don't know how to sail.) Got my pilot's license. (I do know how to fly.) Went sky diving. I go wreck diving. Already planning time at Ocean City on the boardwalk this August & Cancun this winter. Any weapons enthusiasts here?
by Wonderment ini knew i had a couple of firearms around the house, and one in the car.
however, i didn't realize i had seven, yes, seven of them, when i proceeded to count them.
the reason for that is that i haven't gone to the shooting range in years.

Just bought a Smith & Wesson 380 Body Guard semi. It comes with the built in laser scope. It will replace my Beretta Tomcat. I carry for self defense & had a situation where I could have used deadly force to protect myself. I elected not to fire the weapon & instead was assaulted on my own property by a deranged man 20 yrs. younger & 50 lbs. heavier. I got my ass kicked & needed surgery to close the wound to my mouth. Had he came at me with anything in his hand, I would have used deadly force to protect myself. Come to find out, he has a history of violent behavior & was already charged with 2 other assault cases. I live in a small country village. I was attacked on my own property. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere. -

by Freeandclear ini was just reading through some posts and had a startling realization.. the comment that sparked this went something like this: why oh why when i started into this in 1989 did i not research the history of the wtbts?
etc....... i too was studying and moving towards baptism around that same time.
i got dunked in dec of 1990.. my thought.

It is money & not the hand of God Almighty that keeps this cult running. The decline of members in developed countries means less money from those who can afford to donate. The increase of members in third world countries is just as damaging as they can't afford to donate while raising expenses. Born in children now will see the damage & financial strain their parents are facing. They may stay in but will make damn sure of taking care of themselves first. Toward the end of my JW life, I donated nothing. I'm sure many are doing the same today. Once they burn through existing assets, (and this is accelerating) this cult will only exist as an oddity with just a small core of diehard members. I hope to live long enough to see their demise. -

So this has to be a doctrinal matter as opposed to an opinion. Following it to its logical conclusion, women can no longer wear form fitting bathing suits. They'll need to bring back those suits from the 20's. Kinda reminds me of the Mennonite community we have here which, of course, I'm sure the Witnesses pity for having to deal with all those clothing rules. -

Are You Doomed?
by NeonMadman inback in 1969, we were studying the book babylon the great has fallen - god's kingdom rules!
in the book study.
at one point, it commented regarding the "hailstones" that would fall, as described in the book of revelation, that these "hailstones" referred to the hard messages of judgment that we jws would be proclaiming to people after the great tribulation had begun, when there was no further hope of salvation for those who were not already jws.

Classic. Very perceptive at 17 to realize the WT for what it is; just another manmade religion. If we follow that with the WT mantra; we can expect destruction with everyone else. -

You'll gain more ground with the wife if you believe " not everything taught was a lie". There, most likely, are a number of doctrinal points you can both agree on. Start with those. You need a common ground to start with.
