My WT extended family was from Denmark & many years ago, they allowed elders to have beards. When they visited us in NY, they always toasted & laughed about it. They drank that nasty Akvavit. Tasted like they ran it down a bear's ass before bottling. Anyone from an area where elders are allowed to have beards?

Believer; Please understand many of us have suffered for our beliefs at the hands of the JW hierarchy. Many on this board were servants, elders, pioneers and Bethelites. If you are looking for truth you should start with jwfacts.com. If you can find a copy, read Ray Franz' account in his book "Crisis of Conscience." Witnesses used to pride themselves as Bible students, carefully examining what was presented as fact as the Boreans. did. Sadly, this is no longer true as any critical examination of this religion points directly to the fact that this is just another manmade religion driven by the opinions of the leadership. Are you willing to sacrifice you life for the opinions of men? I hope not.

The Book of Mormon
by dubstepped inmy wife and i went to see it today at the encouragement of some of our new friends.
we laughed until we cried, and it was so cathartic to sit in a room full of hundreds of people laughing at the ridiculousness of religion.
sure, the subject is mormonism, but it was very poignant and applicable to all religion.

I lived in Manchester, NY home of the Mormons. They have a statue on Hill Cumorah of the angel Moroni. Somehow having your lead angel named moron seems appropriate for this cult. I marvel at how Joseph Smith got people duped into believing his batshit crazy ideas. But, then again, Russell did an excellent job himself.

I've had this conversation before. I have a daughter & several siblings still in. I initially tried to maintain communication but got sick of the smug, self-righteous attitude. I understand; I was one too. But against company policy, I always talked with those kicked out. I have come to realize that family is not defined by blood ties. Family are those that love you unconditionally. That will stand by you. That you can count on. That want your company. I've had to accept that & move on. My wife, my other children, my in-laws & friends are my family. I'm content with that. Look elsewhere for your family....

Even as a JW, I started to have doubts as 2014 approached. Personally, I still expected to live forever. That's what I bought into. That's what all the investment in time & sacrifice was for. It was a sad moment in my life when I realized I'd been duped, that I was indeed going to die as my mother had before me. I've now outlived all my male relatives & many of the old timers in JW land. I no longer worry about death. Nothing I can do about it. I watched my mother, a staunch JW die. In her last week, she would say over & over "I'm fine, don't worry about me." I could not believe she could say that after all the sacrifices she had made. But, I've come to understand that acceptance of the inevitable has a certain comfort of it's own & I hope I have the same mindset when my turn comes. (Hopefully not for a while.....) In the meantime I shall live well & enjoy life. I hope all of you do as well.

As an elder, I took my wife & kids out on Thanksgiving. A number of restaurants had great Thanksgiving Day dinners. My wife was happy not to cook & clean. We had a don't ask; don't tell policy at our hall. Nobody ever called me on it.

2 elders just came to my door. I smiled and told them no.
by schnell innot playing their game, as i've learned here.
they came to my door to find me with a full beard and a nightmare before christmas hoody, playing a video game where the characters "do not act according to bible principles", and i happily answered the door.
i simply smiled and told them no when they asked if i have a minute.

I lived it. Got married during the scare of 75. Wasn't in love but didn't want to die. Paid for that mistake for the next 34 years. It wasn't fair to the ex-wife & it wasn't fair to me. But I did survive. Got out of the marriage & remarried the love of my life. Have been married now for 7 years. The ex-wife stayed in the cult only to die of a drug overdose. So much of being one of the "Happiest People On Earth....."
