I once gave a talk on perspective; how after we hang a picture on a wall we stand back. This we do to see if it's hanging straight in proper perspective to the wall. 1914, when viewed from any perspective, is not the beginning nor ending of any time period. When one includes, not only the 607 error, but also , every other fact this doctrine is unsustainable. Consider: 1914 date originally a date popularized by Christiandom & copied by Russell. World War I not the greatest war by any standard. Earthquake frequency has not increased. Last "generation' long gone. Their ignoring of every single thing they ever wrote on "the last generation." Witnesses used to pride themselves on "making sure of all things" & "make the truth your own". They have long forsaken the truth. The truth " is not in them"......

I have one daughter still in. I haven't seen her or my grandchildren in 6 years. I have two other daughters. One left the cult & the other was never in. We celebrate holidays, go on vacations, visit those grandkids. But we never talk about the oldest; there's nothing left to be said. Oddly, the oldest & my middle daughter still meet socially. Still, I don't care to know anything about her life; I have enough things to agonize over. They say time heals all wounds & to some extent, this is true. I think about her rarely & when I do it's with the same degree of loss that I carry with the passing of my parents. So, keep moving forward. Looking back is self defeating. As always; live well... enjoy life...

What did you regrettably not do because you were a Jehovah's Witness ?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses cannot do a lot of things.
i remember pioneers having to quit their jobs because they could not work in a convenience store and sell cigarettes.
i know of a young man who was offered a scholarship to any college or university if he wanted to go to because of his football abilities.

What I miss about going out in service.
by compound complex inwell, very little, to be honest.
the structure and commitment of the ministry provided discipline necessary to my life.
therefore, i did it, as required, and felt some sense of fulfillment at the bible study stage.. i do like talking to people.

If "the Truth" is the truth, why are witnesses so scared of research?
by stuckinarut2 init is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?
didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.
seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.

Gone are publications like "Make Sure of All Things". I used to debate CO's who stayed at my FIL's home. This was a while ago. I never worried about WT backlash back then. All are now gone, replaced by company men who have no independent thought.

TV commercial seen in the United States, from a Law firm "Asking if you were ever sexually abused by JEHOVAHS WITNESSES, please call".
by Dunedain inok, so i don't know if this is "old news", and if this has been seen, and or mentioned already.
if it was, i do apologize, but i feel i have to mention what has been seen on tv, within the past 24 hours.. first off, i would like to say that i did not personally see this commercial.
however, it was seen by someone that i can verify 100% is telling the truth, as it was my own father who saw it.

I believe civil cases in NY are not bound by a statue of limitations. The victims are basically suing the WTBS. Law firms here take a percentage of the award for their fee & we have plenty of lawyers here.

Life is changing for me: no pioneering, got a job!
by Skepsis ina month ago i decided to register in this board.
i had decided to step down pioneering but was frightened about the consequences.
i had finished my university degree some months before (despite disaproval from brothers in my congregation) and i had to choose: continue pioneering and working in jobs with no future or starting a career, working full-time.. i was thinking to postpone the decisiton but... i was fed up with preaching.

Regardless of what you personally decide to keep as true this one fact is indisputable; the end is not near. As it turns out, when viewed from any perspective, 1914 was not the beginning or ending of anything. (see JWfacts, The Gentile Times Reconsidered, frequency of earthquakes, etc.) Following JW doctrine; as the "last generation" is not here. neither is Jesus' Kingdom. Nor is the one true religion which means WBTS is not it. Which means it's just another manmade religion. Which means it's actually a part of " Babylon the Great". Which means you are instructed to leave. Congratulations on your way out. Live Well...Enjoy Life....

I live in upstate NY in the country. They dissolved my old congregation & sent the members 30 miles to different congregations. It had been a congregation for over 60 years. We had built a new hall in 1974 which, of course the GB sold & kept the money. They now have closed & merged 2 other local halls. Yet the rank & file seem oblivious to this dramatic change of events. I think, at best, they are on their last generation of converts. My grandkids will not be members. -

Fifty years in; ten years out. Still can't wrap a present; but really enjoy the season. People seem nicer. I've embraced Christmas lights, trees & shopping with the wife. I donate to everyone. Still have to shop for the wife and one daughter.

Elder wants to stop by with the CO for a visit .
by NikL inso i got a text from an elder who i consider one of the good guys and a friend in his own way.. he asked if he could bring the co by for a visit.
he said it would be "just a pleasant call and visit and will hopefully encourage my wife".
he says that "he knows she is dealing with a ton of pressure".. in all my years around the organization, i never had a visit from the circuit overseer.

Talk about back stabbers. I was the BOE chairman's favorite. We would frankly discuss weaknesses within the body & make recommendations to the CO. At one CO meeting, he asked if I was conducting a study with my inactive adult daughter who was going to college and living at home. I explained as an adult, she would not study & I couldn't force her. Nothing else was said until the final Sunday meeting when he recommended my deletion as an elder. The chairman had known about this & never gave me a clue. When the CO left I told them I was done as an elder & so began my slide out of the cult. I'll say it again; just another manmade religion. Not my circus; not my monkeys.
