I know what you mean Stan. I have a number of older ex JW's I would like to check in on but I know it would have no effect other than pissing both them & me off. So I let them be. They have no life outside of the cult.

2 sisters called today
by stan livedeath inive lived here 7 months now--and today was the 4th time some dubs have called--while i was at home.. they were probably about 60-70.. after i let one do her simple leaflet presentation--i told them i used to be a jw--but left over 40 years ago.
and that i held the watchtower responsible for the break up of my family: and discussed shunning.. but the main thing i wanted to discuss--was the sale of their kingdom hall.
they confirmed a sale was going through.

For those of you not familiar with the litigious nature of American society, this settlement is like blood in the water for the sharks we call lawyers. Especially seeing the large number of victims & the WTBTS eagerness to settle out of courts, law firms here will go into a feeding frenzy. Keep in mind law firms garner approximately a third or more of the settlement. This is going to hurt the WTBTS where it's hurts them most; in the pocketbook. That's what counts. They don't give a crap about the flock; it's money they run on. So keep those lawsuits coming.
(Typical US lawyer jokes: " What do we call a thousand lawyers chained to the bottom of the sea? A good start. Why don't sharks eat lawyers? Professional courtesy. Why don't lawyers lay on the beach? Cats keep covering them up with sand.)

I once gave a talk on perspective; how after we hang a picture on a wall we stand back. This we do to see if it's hanging straight in proper perspective to the wall. 1914, when viewed from any perspective, is not the beginning nor ending of any time period. When one includes, not only the 607 error, but also , every other fact this doctrine is unsustainable. Consider: 1914 date originally a date popularized by Christiandom & copied by Russell. World War I not the greatest war by any standard. Earthquake frequency has not increased. Last "generation' long gone. Their ignoring of every single thing they ever wrote on "the last generation." Witnesses used to pride themselves on "making sure of all things" & "make the truth your own". They have long forsaken the truth. The truth " is not in them"......

I have one daughter still in. I haven't seen her or my grandchildren in 6 years. I have two other daughters. One left the cult & the other was never in. We celebrate holidays, go on vacations, visit those grandkids. But we never talk about the oldest; there's nothing left to be said. Oddly, the oldest & my middle daughter still meet socially. Still, I don't care to know anything about her life; I have enough things to agonize over. They say time heals all wounds & to some extent, this is true. I think about her rarely & when I do it's with the same degree of loss that I carry with the passing of my parents. So, keep moving forward. Looking back is self defeating. As always; live well... enjoy life...

What did you regrettably not do because you were a Jehovah's Witness ?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses cannot do a lot of things.
i remember pioneers having to quit their jobs because they could not work in a convenience store and sell cigarettes.
i know of a young man who was offered a scholarship to any college or university if he wanted to go to because of his football abilities.

What I miss about going out in service.
by compound complex inwell, very little, to be honest.
the structure and commitment of the ministry provided discipline necessary to my life.
therefore, i did it, as required, and felt some sense of fulfillment at the bible study stage.. i do like talking to people.

If "the Truth" is the truth, why are witnesses so scared of research?
by stuckinarut2 init is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?
didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.
seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.

Gone are publications like "Make Sure of All Things". I used to debate CO's who stayed at my FIL's home. This was a while ago. I never worried about WT backlash back then. All are now gone, replaced by company men who have no independent thought.

TV commercial seen in the United States, from a Law firm "Asking if you were ever sexually abused by JEHOVAHS WITNESSES, please call".
by Dunedain inok, so i don't know if this is "old news", and if this has been seen, and or mentioned already.
if it was, i do apologize, but i feel i have to mention what has been seen on tv, within the past 24 hours.. first off, i would like to say that i did not personally see this commercial.
however, it was seen by someone that i can verify 100% is telling the truth, as it was my own father who saw it.

I believe civil cases in NY are not bound by a statue of limitations. The victims are basically suing the WTBS. Law firms here take a percentage of the award for their fee & we have plenty of lawyers here.

Life is changing for me: no pioneering, got a job!
by Skepsis ina month ago i decided to register in this board.
i had decided to step down pioneering but was frightened about the consequences.
i had finished my university degree some months before (despite disaproval from brothers in my congregation) and i had to choose: continue pioneering and working in jobs with no future or starting a career, working full-time.. i was thinking to postpone the decisiton but... i was fed up with preaching.

Regardless of what you personally decide to keep as true this one fact is indisputable; the end is not near. As it turns out, when viewed from any perspective, 1914 was not the beginning or ending of anything. (see JWfacts, The Gentile Times Reconsidered, frequency of earthquakes, etc.) Following JW doctrine; as the "last generation" is not here. neither is Jesus' Kingdom. Nor is the one true religion which means WBTS is not it. Which means it's just another manmade religion. Which means it's actually a part of " Babylon the Great". Which means you are instructed to leave. Congratulations on your way out. Live Well...Enjoy Life....
