Interesting thread. A debate on whether Jehovah uses an earthly organization or whether individuals, on their own, can have an approved relationship with him. Bible history shows many individuals had just that. Job comes to mind. When it comes to organizations, the first criteria is proof that the organization in question has that same approval. Early followers had evidence through miracles or prophesy, things that would eventually die out with the apostles. Jesus said love would be the identifier of the approved organization or individual for that matter. Does the WBTS have that quality exclusively today. They would like you to believe that they do. In reality thousands of religions and millions of people have that quality. They help one another, give to the needy, encourage the downtrodden. In fact, the very desire to worship brings out that divine quality. Actually the GB does a better imitation of the Scribes & Pharisees leading by fear & intimidation. So before you answer that question those of you still in, keep looking over your shoulder. There is no proof at all that your organization is the one true religion, led by Jesus Christ and bestowed with Jehovah's holy spirit. You have larger issues to argue about.

I think Tuesdays are the worst days. Mondays I'm still enjoying the weekend memories, Wednesdays I'm already making plans for the next weekend, Thursdays are the days before Fridays & Fridays are the end of the week. I need to drink more on Tuesdays.

Let me guess. The new lite on Daniel's image is that at the very bottom is "athlete's foot". This will be a clear sign that there are seven years more before the end. This, of course, is from every anti- fungal medication know to man where the instructions clearly state to apply for "seven days". Using the day for a year formula, we can accurately predict the end in 2018. (This time.)

Is the Governing Body Guilty or not guilty of 1975 speculations going too far?
by Terry inthe most disengenuous aspect of "official" pronouncements from the society can be identified.. it is in the positioning of the speaker/writer as a passive onlooker commenting on exterior happenings.. this bystander mode is clever by half.. why?
it spoon feeds information without taking any active personal responsibility.. sort of an "oh gee, wow--look at all this going on" stance, while taking a stand-offish tone, is printed in the official magazines and books approved for publication by the governing body as mouthpiece of jehovah.. think about that.
it is insidious incitement without responsibility.. the person (likely fred franz) who crafted these bulletins had gone through several previous incidents of failure and disappointment and was well aware of the effect of any speculations upon jehovah's witnesses in the past.. this makes what was printed all the more calculated and irresponsible in the extreme.. let us parse the language printed by the watchtower society with careful attention to what is said and left unsaid.. w68 8/15 p. 494 why are you looking forward to 1975?.

Who do they think started all the talk of 1975, the rank & file? The hallmark quality of the "true religion" is love. What happened to that quality as the GB watched silently while thousands destroyed any hope for a decent future. And, of course, the icing on the cake was them blaming the rank & file for "running ahead". Arrogant, self serving & heartless. If you're still in for family, you have my sympathy. Please don't buy into anything that these guys shovel your way. Instead: Live well....enjoy life.

Since you missed it, let me tell you about 1975. I was 22, baptized but pretty much out of the organization. My mother said that the society was warning of the end coming in 1975. I cleaned up my act, married the PO's daughter (he, by the way was one of the anointed) & waited for the end. I was not in love but figured in just a few months I'd be in Paradise & would learn to love her. So I waited, became an elder. Was on numerous committees. Gave district assembly parts. Got called in years later by the CO for not studying with my college age daughter who wanted nothing to do with the truth. Got demoted. Lost all interest. Watched the wife develop a hefty prescription drug habit. 34 years passed. Finally fell in love. Divorced the wife & and left the "Truth". I have never been happier in all my life. Do I blame the WBTS? Sure as hell do. They love analogies so here's one: You can't push an occupied car down a hill & after it plows into a crowd of innocent people claim no responsibility. They should all rot in hell.

Good choices all. For those of you too young to remember try Peggy Lee's " Is That All There Is?" If that's all there is my friends then let's keepdancing. Let's break out the booze and have a ball. If that's all there is.

Happiness after almost a year!
by fade_away inthat book: "the secret of family happiness" is missing the part that teaches you to live happy with your family.
"but if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned.
but those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and i want to spare you this.".

Good for you. I wasted a lot of years of my life living the WT lie. I left & remarried. I can't express the joy of being with the love of my life. I'm so glad for you. Live well...... enjoy life.

Do You Blame Your Current Life's Issues Because You Were A JW?
by minimus indo you tend to blame your problems on the fact that you were a jehovah's witness?.

Yeah. I'd love to sue them. Responsible for every bad decision? No. But guilty for influencing many of them. You can't push a unoccupied car down a hill and after it mows down a crowd of victims claim no responsiblity.

The arrogance in the 15th July 2011 Watchtower.
by ThomasCovenant insorry if this has already been discussed.
i've only just had a quick look at the 15th july wt.
once again i've looked at it from the point of view of the governing body dictating to their secretary, the text to rush down to the printing press.. page 21 para 16/17.

They sound so much like the Scribes & Pharisees Jesus condemned. That "we're God's only channel although being imperfect" just doesn't wash. So they're telling you that either the "channel" ain't working or they ain't working. I tend to believe the latter. And, oh by the way, where's the apologies when they're wrong? Can't do that. They would have to admit making mistakes. Mistakes? From whom? Who's wrong on these issues that cost lives? They continually paint themselves into a corner. They should hire 9 new guys. Getting plenty of fresh remnant recruits every year.

Hey OBVES, love the math. Unfortunately, I fell asleep reading it before I got to your actual end date prediction. What date is the end? I need to clear my social calendar for it.
