i was just reading through some posts and had a startling realization.. the comment that sparked this went something like this: why oh why when i started into this in 1989 did i not research the history of the wtbts?

etc....... i too was studying and moving towards baptism around that same time.

i got dunked in dec of 1990.. my thought.

It is money & not the hand of God Almighty that keeps this cult running. The decline of members in developed countries means less money from those who can afford to donate. The increase of members in third world countries is just as damaging as they can't afford to donate while raising expenses. Born in children now will see the damage & financial strain their parents are facing. They may stay in but will make damn sure of taking care of themselves first. Toward the end of my JW life, I donated nothing. I'm sure many are doing the same today. Once they burn through existing assets, (and this is accelerating) this cult will only exist as an oddity with just a small core of diehard members. I hope to live long enough to see their demise.

So this has to be a doctrinal matter as opposed to an opinion. Following it to its logical conclusion, women can no longer wear form fitting bathing suits. They'll need to bring back those suits from the 20's. Kinda reminds me of the Mennonite community we have here which, of course, I'm sure the Witnesses pity for having to deal with all those clothing rules.

back in 1969, we were studying the book babylon the great has fallen - god's kingdom rules!

in the book study.

at one point, it commented regarding the "hailstones" that would fall, as described in the book of revelation, that these "hailstones" referred to the hard messages of judgment that we jws would be proclaiming to people after the great tribulation had begun, when there was no further hope of salvation for those who were not already jws.

Classic. Very perceptive at 17 to realize the WT for what it is; just another manmade religion. If we follow that with the WT mantra; we can expect destruction with everyone else.

i feel like i need to vent my story out, as i feel quite helpless at the moment.. i'm 31 year old, married, father of toddler with another one on the way, due later this month.

i've been serving as elder for about 4 years now in a south florida congregation.

You'll gain more ground with the wife if you believe " not everything taught was a lie". There, most likely, are a number of doctrinal points you can both agree on. Start with those. You need a common ground to start with.

i wanted to stay off the radar but since i'm getting dis-fellowshipped anyways and have no plans to come back what the hell.

been 22 years in the truth........... ahhhh i hate to use that expression...... bad habit but you know what i mean.

Hi Harvard; Welcome to the club. As you probably have figured out, we have a group of diverse thinkers all held together by a common bond of getting screwed by the WT in one form or another. We have believers, agnostics, atheists, evolutionists, creationists and bikers. (Me, to name one). Best part is it doesn't matter what you believe here. Bottom line; we agree to disagree. After 50 yrs. in my only advice is; Live Well....Enjoy Life!

the watchtower 2007 feb 15 pp.30-31 explains why jehovah's witnesses are not to toast.

what is astounding is that for each point they then go on an explain why the point is irrelevant, yet still conclude toasting is wrong.

what did people think when reading this?

That's the difference between opinion & principle. A principle is supposed to be applied unilaterally & consistently. Anything else is an opinion. Of men. Which makes my opinion as good as the next guy's. So I'm raising my glass of Johnny Walker Red & soda as we speak, toasting my good fortune to be out of a cult.......

Ironically my brother is the presiding elder at Newark. When I first mentioned this arrangement last year, he was telling me how great it was. That the society kicked in for their new HVAC. Not bad. Fleece them for $150,000 & buy them a $10,000 HVAC installed for free by suckers. Nice return.......

Ah just more evidence of the work "speeding up during the time of the end". I helped build this hall. Was appointed as an MS & elder there. For years the congregation looked forward to the day of building a bigger hall, more centrally located. They saved for this new hall & we looked at a number of properties. They sold the existing hall, put the money in a bank account & moved in with the neighboring Newark hall 15 miles away. They waited for the society to help them build their long awaited hall. The society took their money, of course, then informed them they weren't getting a hall. They dissolved the congregation, sending some to Rochester locations & some to Newark. Is it me or could so many intelligent people not see this for what it is; a fleecing of the flock?

TTWSYF; if it's global preaching that's a qualifier, ISIS beats the JW's hands down. For your doctrine to work, you would be obligated to warn EVERYONE ON EARTH. You do a piss poor job. It's mathematically impossible. You are not the one true religion. It's not here. When it does arrive, you will not recognize it.
