i guess what I don't get is why or where they get the idea that everyone has to be the same. It's not even scriptural thinking.

If THAT is Paradise, count me bored....
by bafh ini happened to attend a session of the summer convention on sunday morning.
one thing that that struck me was how their view of paradise was that we would all be the same.
they kept talking about how nice it would be if we all spoke the same language.

I happened to attend a session of the summer convention on Sunday morning.
One thing that that struck me was how their view of Paradise was that we would all be the same. They kept talking about how nice it would be if we all spoke the same language. I just thought how boring it would be. You destroy language, you destroy culture. And isn't THAT one thing that is so interesting about people? We do so many of the same things differently. If God allowed humans to create cultures and languages, why couldnt paradise involve us understanding each other's language while still peaking our own? Their ideas of how things should be are just so narrow.
If there is a God - he clearly values variety and individualism. Look at Zebras and Giraffes. To the naked eye, they all look the same. Yet, each zebra and giraffe have their own unique patterns. No two are alike.
I know this not an earth shattering revelation on my part, but the more distance I get from JWs, the more unscriptural I think they are.

They already unofficially shun inactive ones, so what purpose would making it official serve?

I am JW.ORG
by LogCon infamous quote from wuthering heights revised.. '... i am jw.org!
it's always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than i am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.
so don't talk of our separation again: it is impracticable...'.

My question is where are they buying the merchandise from? Directly from the society or from those companies run by JWs set up to "support" the mininstry by making all kinds of binders, folders, etc.? As a 4th generation born in - this feels very uncomfortable to me - and like - trying too hard to be "hip". If they had been doing these things [not the merchandise, but the campaign and broadcasting] say, 10 or 15 years ago when everyone else was, I think it would seem ore authentic. This seems like a snake oil salesman trying to pull a fast one - "what child abuse law suits?? Look a shiney new button!"
Sigh.

November 8th Special Meeting
by Chris Tann inanyone have any leaks on this three hour meeting we are having early november?.

It is a branch visit. So if you don't fall under the United States Branch, then you won't have the meeting. I'm assuming it might be US and Mexico.
It will be on Nov. 8, broadcast to all congregations capable of receiving it. If someone else has another date, then maybe they are rebroadcasting it that day to accommodate those who weren't able to see it on the 8th.

I hear ya. I've been missing a sense of community too. I found Sunday Assembly. I'm in Portland and our chapter started in March and is really doing great. It has the sense of community without any dogma or pressure. Check it out and see if there is one in your area. If not, you could start one.
I agree though that the unofficial shunning from people who were supposed to be your friends and love you is unnerving. At least until you get some distance and start to replace it. It is getting better and I've been away 5 years.

Coming out to the closet to your family as an "apostate". Any experiences? Your input would be greatly appreciated.
by im_free inso it's been about 10 years since i have faded out and have stopped believing in the jw teachings.
since then, i have accepted jesus and have experienced an amazing tranformation in my life and have been freed from the jw prison mentally and spiritually.
a more detailed thread about my journey is here if you are interested.. anyways, my jw family lives in another state so they are unaware that i am no longer "in the truth" since i have not told them.

Rebel8 described exactly what I do. First, I don't bring it up. If they do, I say something like "There are some things that have really bothered my conscience. And I don't feel there is a place for me right now. I don't want to talk about it, because I don't want to be discouraging to you." So far, so good.
