Spot on, Christ Alone! That's the first mental picture I had when I met him for the first time. "He's DOE! You know... that Heaven's Gate guy!"
Jimmy Swaggart. Peter Popoff. Oral Roberts. ...those are the "christendom" nutjobs I was trained by our own literature and my family to ridicule and identify as false! When I met Steve a few years ago, I thought to myself, "Oh. My. GOD. ...he's no different than the funny guys my sister and I used to laugh at on the UHF Jesus channels!"
No different! We're the same as they are! This guy was the JUMPSTART to my awakening--no joke. I'm dead serious. He's the reason. Spirit-appointed my ass. This guy is "mentally diseased," not us.

How did he ever survive the TMS? Remember when they'd give "Gs" or "Ws" back in the day? Did any school overseer ever call him out on looking like a complete LOON? How did the GB select him, anyway? I know he was a CO at one point, but god DAMN. If I were on the GB and looking for potential guys to "tap" for membership, I'da been the first one to say, "Wait. Hold up. We have a certain image to maintain, do we not? This guy's bizarre behavior on the platform will make people think they're in some kind of nutty CULT."
When I hear the term "cult" to describe JWs, his face is always the picture that pops into my head. Could you imagine if Ronmey or Obama behaved like him in a presidential debate? It would kill his chances at ever being considered. How can anyone in the audience at a CA or DC take this man seriously? I've seen a few of his talks in different states across the USA and my friends always start laughing and say something to the effect if, "What's WITH THIS GUY???"

Does the Watchtower really parallel 1st Century Christianity?

I cannot believe that illustration. Door to door? In the 1st Century?!?!? With Louis Vuitton satchels??? Containing SCROLLS????? I LOL'ed when I saw it in the ragazine and I LOL'ed again just now! That's the epitome of historical editing and academic dishonesty. I cannot believe the writing committee and art department signed off on that picture. It can easily be debunked. The fact that they're HANDING OUT PAMPHLETS IN SCROLL FORM implies that there was a governing body (albeit lowercase) publishing the material on parchment. The NERVE!

There's a great Halloween store next to a Starbucks in my town. One autumn, there was a theme party at a JWs house and we all went into that store after a FS break at Starbucks lol! It was great! We walked out of there with tons of outfits and I jokingly said we should leave a tract to keep our time going and the elder in our group said "No way! Are you kidding?"
