  Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower

  i have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.

  last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.

  one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

  @SHAMUS - I totally agree with you! Jeremy's posting is great! Beyond informative. I wished that so many could ACTUALLY see this.

  I feel for the young people. I noticed a bunch of this crap back in the 70s and 80s as a young one. But, who wants to disappoint their parents? All I had to look forward to was pioneering full time right out of high school, getting married at the age of 19. He had to be 'spiritual' and at least a ministerial servant. Preach, preach, preach and be pillars in the congregation for other young families.

  We are not taught REAL social skills for the REAL future. We are likened to "Stepford Jehovah's Witnesses".

  It's a sad, sad and pitiful life for young ones growing up in this religion. Only to find:

  1) you WILL NOT get a hold on the REAL LIFE

  2) you WILL be pestered once you realize you are in a cult

  3) you WILL grow old and die IN THIS SYSTEM.

  Please continue to give this message to the young ones in this cult. WE ARE THEIR ONLY HOPE!

  apparently it's now ok for known child abusers to be recommended as elders as long as the "sin" was years in the past: .

  "for example, the sin may involve past child abuse, and this would likely disqualify him for years.

  @WOBBLE----- I TOTALLY AGREE W/U!!!!! This needs to be published by way of some talk show, magazine, newspaper article. Just like the Warren Jeffs issue, JWS needs to be put on blast again.

  Wow! If I have to (...not that I'd attend) meet with the elders once my husband is served his divorce papers, I'm taking this thought w/me! This is exactly how I feel! I'm not leaving Jehovah, I'm leaving a group of CONTROLLING misfits! I compare it to escaping from FLDS or the Warren Jeffs religion. I don't want to live a debauched life and screw everything walking.

  * I just want to live a BETTER, STRESS-FREE life.

  * I want the best for my children.

  * Everytime I turn around, we can't do this, can't do that, can't look at this, can't look at that. I'M TIRED AND WEARY OF ALL I CAN'T ENJOY

  * GET TOGETHER WITH MY NON-BELIEVING FAMILY WHO ARE NORMAL PEOPLE THAT I LOVE, WOULD BE NICE

  * attend the wedding or funeral of a dear loved one...in their place of worship

  *sleep in on a Saturday morning w/out being bullied to get out of bed when I'm so damned tired from the work week and late homework nights w/the kids

  * free to take the kids to the zoo on an early Saturday or Sunday w/out possibly being reprimanded

  * attend college w/out being persecuted or being called 'worldly'

  * PLAN family vacations and weekend get-a-ways w/out the pressure of being told "NO" by my soon-to-be-ex-husband because EVERY vacation (and too many) takes time away from Jehovah.....

  They need to get a grip! NO!!! He doesn't take too many, at all. He has a family. He needs to balance work and family, like any other family unit is supposed to. Hell! My marriage ended due to my husband ALLOWING the JW religion to take all his time. Let alone his hypocrite JW associates and family. The kids and I were somewhere on list about # 17.

  Oh....and his 'hottie' at his job that he thinks I know nothing about.....

  So, kudos, to President Obama! Keep family happy and EVERYTHING ELSE will fall in proper order.

  i remember one time when i was about 17 years old, i wanted to arrange a costume party for the young brothers in the congo around my age.

  i suggested it to one of my friends and was told that the elders had advised against it because it could be construed as pagan and masks have their roots in demonism.

  of course, i was never shown any biblical proof of this but just that response took the wind out of my sails and i decided to just not go through with it.

  @ Nugget - Women having to wear a tea cloth on their head when saying a prayer that was pretty ridiculous.

  I remember my mom doing that when she conducted our studies when Dad was at work! OMG!!! I thought that was the MOST STUPID thing ever!!! I was only 5 years old when I would look at her and think, "Is she a damned fool!"

  This stuff is hilarious and I remember about 99% of it!!!

  I told my Mom the JWS is JUST LIKE the Mormons and the FLDS. She had to remember that I am a grown woman. I thought she was gonna find a strap to beat my a$$ with it!!!!! Why don't they see it? It's freakn black and white!!!

  I remember being one of the MOST Holly Hobby/Laura Ingalls Wlder wearing, crazed maniac!! Skirts down to my ankles (under my heels, if I could) and buttons up to my chin and loose fitting outfits, as not to show off my bulging breastest !!!! Well, the C.O. and his wife visited. I had on a LOOONG black skirt. The problem....the kick-pleat was from the ankle and stop and the bend of my knee. You all understand? The kick-pleat was in the back, not the front, not the side. PLUS, it was overlapping and you couldn't see my legs anyway!!!! The sisters at my hall had a fit!!! "Why are you wearing that skirt?!!!" I had ALWAYS worn that skirt and it wasNEVERa problem! But, I should've been stoned to death. I cried and was shaken-up for 2 or 3 days.

  What made me angry? MY punk-a$$ husband didn't have my back. Nor did he shut these sisters down being he was an elder!!!!

  "One beatdown willnever compare to 25 years of captivity ofbeing a JW)!!!! Never!!!!
