Witnessing to the JW's on my Online Baby Forum
by AwSnap ini did not expect myself to do this, as i usually just stay quiet and mind my own business unless someone approaches me about jw's.
as many of you know, i had a baby a few months ago.
on babycentercommunity, a woman titled a thread "i don't believe in halloween".

I had a conversation with my non-JW aunt today and she used the word "deprived" when she talked about us kids growing up as JWs. So true, really. But I was just programmed to tell people, "Oh, we're not deprived! Our parents buy us stuff any of time of year! And they always do big stuff for their anniversary!"
Yeah. Uh-huh. They did anniversary ONCE A YEAR, nothing more. Many of my friends got the same.
Graduation parties were another opportunity for gift giving, but that's what? Once a lifetime? :P (3 times, tops... around here they do 5th grade graduations, 8th grade, and senior.)

Special day Last talk "No formula"
by MommieTiger inthis weekend at our special assembly day, let gods will take place the final talk was a head shaker.... the bethel speaker was quite entertaining when he joked @ the shortcomings of the elders.
he also made us laugh with the comment "we were told the end of the system is right around the corner, but we've found its been more than that, we've been around the blocks a few times.
" he told the young ones to make the truth their own by researching in the wtbts publication (only).

WOW. I hated babycenter. Too mainstream for me. I was a mothering.com girl.
Good work, though. I hope someone PMs you!

As A JW Were You Generally Feeling Guilty Over One Thing Or Another?
by minimus ini believe the witnesses keep people in the cult by means of using guilt as a tool.
it seems people who leave the religion tend to stop using meds and anti-depressants.
exjws seem more content and less filled with worry and guilt.. what do you think?.

Huge guilt. Ugh. Still working that out. I am no longer taking anti-depressants, however! :) And my migraines have lessened GREATLY.

After leaving the Faith, do you celebrate all of the Holidays?
by Quarterback ini could never understand how some who don't follow some of the moral restrictions in the jw faith, are strong against celebrating the .
religious holidays such as christmas, and easter etc.. do you celebrate the holidays knowing some of their origins?.

This is our first year. When I was 3, I had my last Christmas. As a child, my grandmother ALWAYS had Christmas and I missed it. We would go to Grandma's on Xmas day (way to go, mom...) but no gifts were given to us or anything.
This year, my kids will get their first Christmas, but it will be very small & low key. We won't promote Santa or Jesus, but it will be a celebration of winter.
We won't participate in the trick-or-treat aspect of H'ween, but we have no problem letting the kids go to parties or doing things in school.
Having a strong knowledge of my Native American heritage, I am opposed to T-giving as an American holiday. We eat turkey around that time (at 77c a pound, how can you say no?) and stuff, but I doubt we'll have a big dinner celebration.
I'll let the kids do Valentine's day, but won't likely do anything as a family. Same for Easter. If it happens elsewhere, fine, but it's not going to be something I actively participate in.
We'll also do birthdays.

Are we all still FAMILY? Yes or No?
by Greybeard inhere is why, even though i no longer agree with most of what the gb/wt/jw's teach, i still feel especially close to all of us who were apart of this group.
born in or converted.
we all have had the same life experience of being raised in a over bearing mind controlling cult.

I don't feel like FAMILY, but I certainly feel a fondness and a closeness that outsiders won't ever understand because they've not been where we have.
