I really feel you Marmot; I watched Unity then sealed my veggy fate by watching Earthlings. I now feel more in touch with the compassionate, slightly idealistic wannabee Goth of my teenage pre-bOrg years. -

He seemed very bored and resigned, I think I prefer a TMIII rant, at least he gets a bit animated then! Trying to say that GB does not expect their sayings to be obeyed without question...then in almost the same breath telling dubs to pray for understanding if they disagree while obeying anyway?!? Need Help with Blood Transfusion Illustration
by Dissonant15 inplease, who can provide an intelligent rebuttal to the following illustration?
i always thought it was bullet-proof:.
"if your doctor directs you to 'abstain from alcohol' would you be ok to have it injected into your veins rather than drink it?
-
ListlessWitness
I agree with heaven. In fact I always found that illustration embarrassingly stupid. Blood lives in your veins, belongs there. Alcohol does not. There is no comparison. The Org is oversimplifying the word abstain and taking it out of context. While it merrily overcomplicates simple words like 'overlap' and 'generation' and tries to squeeze them into a context they just don't fit. Crazy word games, mind games, control games. -

Death is not something to be feared!
by iconoclastic inscience can explain how of things, but it cannot explain why of certain things (for example, why did life arise from non-life and evolved from simpler creatures to more complex life forms only to die and disappear?

Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
Just saying.
We are all at different stages in our journey since discovering TTATT. Is it really helpful to dismiss anyone's belief in pejorative terms? Or are some still hanging on to the witness way of trying to pull the religious rug out from under people with beliefs that do not match our own? That this life is all there is, not an easy thing to accept. It is like realising you have been handed a death sentence after years of doing what you thought was right to avoid it. Those that have accepted it come across as bitter and determined that no-one has the right to an alternative view. I find that bizarre. If an open mind makes me more sensitive and mild towards those who are struggling with their death sentence, I do not consider that a bad thing. Or a weakness of mind or intellect. Just recognising that all of us are in a different stage in our journey and defending each one's right to take that journey at their own pace and with their own thoughts. Many of us are mourning the loss of the best decades of our life and find the rich variety of opinion in this forum comforting. What reason have we to be harsh to others when we do not know how vulnerable they might be?

Thanks from the bottom of my heart
It is my pleasure Icon. I too am fascinated by the human spirit which seems so indomitable. I wonder if it behaves in a way we don't yet fully understand. I find myself musing about whether it is a unique form of energy which continues after the receptacle which gives it the senses to experience human life expires.
The great thing is Icon, if they're lambasting me for what they consider ignorance, at least they're leaving you alone for a moment my friend 😉
I appreciate your openness, that you are not afraid to be vulnerable by posting here. I find your thoughts interesting and hope to hear more from you. I still don't understand what is considered so harmful about expressing various opinions as we formulate them, to me it is a beautiful thing to maintain a little spirituality even after our trust in religion to provide answers has been so thoroughly abused and betrayed.
To not admit that there are many things about which the human race remains ignorant is...well...ignorant. And then try to shut down others free expression by unkind comments is...well...I guess my Mum always taught me that if you haven't got anything pleasant to say, don't say anything at all.

Thanks Icon, I love the way you think. Similar to The Truth Contest, in fact some of your thoughts could fit really well with that material if there is a way to submit them?
Certain things cannot be subjected to the scrutiny of science for complete answers. Love and relationships and emotions for example. But that doesn't stop us speculatively attempting romance and seeing what happens. Why then is it so harmful to speculate about something we cannot know for sure? It is part of being alive, and when you try to stamp out speculation about things that cannot be proven, you are trying to stamp out a part of our very being. I know an Org which likes to do that, and we escaped from it in part to enjoy freedom of thought and expression.
Live and let live ffs, why are some people so bent on being 'right'?
If there are things in Icon's past posts which have jerked people's chains, let it go, it's in the past. Let a person grow and develop even if it is not on your terms or timescale. Why not hold back the urge to comment on something until you have seen what fresh pairs of eyes think of it?
Just my 2 cents. I am probably wrong, but always being right is something I am working hard to let go of so that more harmony can be created with my fellow man.

The Spiritual Man According to WTBTS
by zophar inwho is a spiritual man according to wtbts?.
this post will resonate most with people who have been long associated with jws and have seen a dramatic change in the spirituality of traveling overseers over the years..
how does a man get appointed as a circuit overseer?
-
ListlessWitness
If you were older and had any health issues you were not considered for appointment. Sorry Paul, that “thorn in the flesh” affliction means you are not qualified. And as for the Apostle John, too old we can’t afford to have you traveling around to the congregations, too much liability to the Corporations money situation.
Never thought of it like that before, so true tho!

I just googled 'overlapping generation' to double check whether it is a term in use anywhere else in the whole world. The only pages that came up were about economics. The Overlapping Generations Model. Note the 's' on the word generation. If they overlap, it cannot be 1 generation but 2 at least. Common sense really, just thought it was interesting.

by Designer Stubble inguess the overlapping generation concept is difficult for most to comprehend.
david spane does his best to explain it again.
the cutoff date for this generation has now moved to 1992 (was once 1935), the year that fred franz died.
