I always figured it was much earlier like beubonic (sp?) plague days.
I never had much fath in numerology, so the dates pretty much mean nothing to me.
the official wt stance is that these horsemen began their ride in 1914.. at the time i began my "bible study" with the jw's, i bought into that with all the zeal of an old testament prophet.. however, i submit if those horsemen set out in 1914, they either lost their way and vanished, or the horses ditched their riders and returned to their stables.. what say you?.
sylvia.

will it happen at once the world over?.
will jw's be told to be at certain areas during that 'hour'?.
what about the df'd who might happen to be among jw's?.
I'm not sure if it will start all at once. I DO know, however, (from actual pictures in The Orange Book) that all children who fidgeted at the Kingdom Hall and pinched their little brother making him cry out disturbing the entire congregation will be swallowed up by a humongous crack that will open up in the ground. This will be just the start of Armageddon.
Haaaa! OMG! You remember that 50's type propoganda spread too! To think, its takes a sick mind to draw such.
"As a thief in the night".
NT - Rev has "fire" as the source of destruction but the WTS has always shown pictures of people being sucked up by earthquakes. Kinda like a Sodom and Gomorrah type deal but world-wide.
romans 10:9,10.
"...if you confess with your mouth jesus as lord, and believe in your heart that god raised jesus from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.".
in my ten years as a jw, there was absolutely no emphases to the importance of this scripture.
In my ten years as a JW, there was absolutely no emphases to the importance of this scripture. What did this scripture mean to the average JW?
Um, nothing.
You could even loudly exclaim that "Jesus is Lord to the Glory of Jehovah" and they'd freak the hell out. Oh no !, you mentioned Jesus!
Notice how they can't even mention Jesus? He's always "the Lamb","the Word", "the Greatest Man", etc ... like he doesn't have a name except at the end of a prayer.
I want to see a WT or a Book that simply says Jesus on the front.
from what i can tell, there was some discussion out here on this article about a month ago, but at that time few folks had their copy to look at (we just received it last week at our hall).
now that most jw's have their copy, there has been a lot of discussion about it - at least here, that is.
as was mentioned already, this is definitely a follow up to the 5/1/07 qfr "when does the callling of christians to a heavenly hope cease?
Apparently, they missed the entire Chapter 1 of Galations.
The assertions are ludicrous.

as more and more cases of swine flu are confirmed across the united states, experts throughout the nation have become increasingly certain that most likely, you will die from it really soon.. "swine flu has the potential to become a pandemic," said dr. alan lepow, an infectious disease specialist at the cleveland clinic, implying that eventually, we will all get the swine flu and then die.. what is swine flu?
nobody seems to be able to provide an answer that doesn't take expensive recording time to explain, but many experts seem to agree on one thing: swine flu is similar to the normal human influenza virus, except that instead of causing a runny nose and muscle aches, it causes painful, horrifying death.. one official from the center for disease control (cdc) likened the flu to a [zombie] "virus", something that will spread insidiously and relentlessly, until you'll try and seek help in a hospital, but the hospital will be dark and scary, because everyone inside will be dead from swine flu.. "for example," said jeffrey spalding, a man who was standing outside the cdc, "a child contracts swine flu, and passes it on to another child by attacking and biting the other child.
I take it some folks here did not notice the article was a funny?
I for one, thought it was hilarious.
I'm on my way to CA this summer ... that is if they'll let anyone coming from the US in.
No sé.
when you look back, were you considered a "good" jw?
?.
Kinda. Then, I never pretended to be someone I was not. [Who needs all that false pretense and sneaking around?]
They always seemed like they were scared of me.
i was offered a journalism scholarship at ohio state ... mom made me turn it down cause "armageddonwas near"... ended up a janitor!
.
Kinda and No.
I think in the beginning it posed problems communicating with normal human beings. I got over that one in no time.
I went to college in the 80's, no one said anything.
just thinking back over some of the many, many posts here.
it seems there are a fair share of ex-bethelites here or ex-branch office workers.. what percentage of jws actually go to bethel or a branch office?
it's gotta be under 1%.
I always thought the opposite. Bethel folks were late teens whose fathers were Elders or MS ... nothing to do with "gung-ho".
.
what will prevent you from being deceived again and making the same mistake?.
what is your criteria now for weighing truth vs "enlightened-sounding" fiction?.
Even if you know the world is round, say its flat unless you want to be labeled a 'heretic'.
Slips of paper are more important than humans.
Labels can be used for people as well as food stuffs.
On a positive note, I learned how to truly treat and help other people simply by doing the opposite of the WT.
startfragment.
obviously, this is an ongoing discussion.
in a past post (which was so popular, there were 0 replies) i mentioned a book by james stewart russell: the parousia: the new testament doctrine of our lord's second coming, which was written in 1878. the book is a discussion of the new testament as it relates to the subject of the parousia or christ's presence.
That's way too long to bother reading. Long posts (excluding personal experiences) remind me of someone trying to "make time".
The problem is the poor translations of the NT from the initial Greek, plus some writings have been omitted depending on denomination, and a WT will do nothing but confuse since scriptures are used way out of context.
No one knows where we are in the stream of time; somewhere between extreme pollution and self extermination.
