Wordly people, df'ing, my experience

the bryant tragedy has really been stuck in my head and heart this week as i'm sure it has been for all of us.

it occured to me though that there may be some here or lurking that do not understand what made robert do what he did.

there may be some who think that his was an isolated incidence of severe untreated mental illness and have nothing to do with his being disfellowshiped.

flower, I felt the same as you did. I never had thoughts of ending mine or my childrens lives but I did feel worhtless when I was df'd.

I felt as if I could never be good enough, never do enough. They knew I was a single parent and had to work long hours but they always said I should be doing more.

When I look back on it, they left me, I didn't leave God.

I did go back later and get reinstated, but if I had the whole thing to do over again. I would have slammed the door in their face when they first came to it.

she left the religion three years ago just about the same time as robert and janet.

her husband is not a jw but did attend the occasional meeting.

hi simon, firstly i would like to say thank you for allowing us to post on here, its been a real eye opener for me to see that there are other people out in the world like me, that we are not the freaks after all, when i first got disfellowshipped i thought it was a terrible thing, that i was leaving the truth, now, after spending around a month on here i can see i never was in the truth, so thank you for letting me see that.. also can i say its refreshing to see someone admit when they make a mistake, like you did in the thread by sf, thank you for not being too proud to listen.

Sadie, I still loves these movies, and so do my kids. Goonies being my favorite. I always laugh when I see that movie. Cory Feldman is so funny.

Why does shunning hurt so much uniquely among JWs?

what makes shunning in this religion real tough to deal with...(as opposed to being defrocked or ex-communicated, etc.):::.

why it's not as simple as "why don't you just walk away?".

1-many jws lack social skills from birth in jw upbringings, lack of diversity in associations, controlled environments sheltered from the real world.. 2-lack of outside contacts or support "safety net" of outside mentors.. 3-discouragement of seeking any outside independent sources, education or professional help or information.

Maybe this is why I found it so easy to leave. I wasn't raised in it for one, and I never let go of the friends I had outside of the religion. Come to think of it, I had only two or three friends inside the religion.
