Dear Englishman,
You said:
"Governing body members no longer had to be FDS."
So if they no longer need to be FDS then where does the stuff about the holy spirit directing God's people through the FDS fit in. No longer needs, or does God work through just anybody now? Interesting isn't it?

Last Night's Elders Meeting.
by Englishman inlast night i concluded a very lively social evening by talking with an elder who was enjoying a few late gin 'n'tonics in my local pub.. suitably booted and suited, my dubinthepub pal told me that he had just been to an elders meeting, conducted by the co.. he said that a lot of stuff was only handed down by word of mouth these days.
but, new light that he had just received, was as follows: (bear in mind that we were both pretty steamed by midnight!).
1. elders must call on all dfd ones once a year to encourage them to turn back and where necessary to have their questions answered.

Pink Songbooks - Green Bibles
by nicolaou inthose of us who've been around long enough will understand the title.
what we are looking for here are examples of the society's lack of taste.. for example, i'm sure our kingdom hall wasn't the only one in the 70's with dark brown carpeting that rose halfway up the walls and a nice trendy rubber plant in the corner of the platform!.

When we built ours Hall the inside color was ORANGE! Very in for the time period. And brick, for accenting it up front for the stage. Two BIG fake potted trees too! OOOH! Ahhh! And grass paper on the walls. We had windows back then too. Now it has been redone in teals and tans and the new "Taco Bell" colors! The windows were blocked up and now "new light" can't get in or out! But they put in "new light" fixtures instead. Heheheh....Sorry, couldn't help myself!

Now Foot and Mouth Hits My Families Farm.
by Englishman ini thought that maybe i would keep everyone up to date re the foot and mouth epidemic that is sweeping the uk.. my wifes brother bob has a farm in dumfries, which is just across the scotland border.
yesterday tony blair visited the area and commended the farmers for their courage in keeping going in the face of almost insurmountable odds.. this morning bob received a letter from the ministry of agriculture.
his animals are within 5 miles of an outbreak of f & m, and as such they are to be slaughtered in an effort at containment.

Dear Englishman,
This is sad and horrible. I can't believe they are making them do this. No money will compensate for all the hard work and affection that has gone into all this. A question though. Can the sperm and the eggs be taken from the animals and frozen or is that prohibited too? I don't know the finances either, it might be to costly. Just an idea as I was reading this. I am so sorry, give my sympathy to your family.

I have read this piece and found it very interesting. It was recommeded to me a long time ago from a member on H2O. Mark Twain is a fascinating writer. I wish I had time to read more of his works.

Hi ozzie,
Just got tired of "Antique" after five years of it. Lindy is so much more me (although I wish I was young and vibrant!). Antique was chosen because of a joke between a old friend of mine and myself and my love of antiques. I'm five years older than he is and we always joked about that. But now that my life has changed so much I decided that Lindy was much better and I don't get the "old" cracks form the "stupids" out there. But you can still call me Antique if you'd like. ;) I don't really mind the name.
Thanks for the welcome! Good to be here.

Hi Iarc,
I grew up in Brunswick, lived in Medina area for 28 years and now here, south of Seville, for the past 6 years this month. I was part of the original Medina congregation when I was little and my mom came in, then the Brunswick Cong., helped build the Medina Cong., went to Wellington, Ashland and Wadsworth for a while, in between here and there. I know people in the Strongsville Cong. and Berea. When we moved here, I became part of the Wads. Cong. and faded out. Only went to two Memorials and about three meetings. I went on the net shortly after we moved here and proceeded to discover that my doubts weren't bogus and started to live for the first time.
JAVA should be congratulated for his courage and endurance. I am older than he is and I hope I have the courage to finish the four years. But so far I really enjoy college even though it is hard at times. I have a chronic pain disorder that gets in my way, but so far so good. I love learning. And after so many years a JW, I have a lot to catch up on! LOL
Hey, if you want to talk some time, email me. Where abouts in Akron did you live? How was the main campus there? My daughter has one more semester to go before she has to start going there and she is scared about it being so big and impersonal. The Wayne campus is very small and friendly and the professers are great. She has social anxiety and doesn't do well with change, so I am a little concerned about here.
Nice talking with a "local". Have a good weekend!

My Sister
by Esmeralda inafter being so close to getting a clue about the "truth",my oldest sister is way back in it, deeper than ever.. i love claire dearly, and i know that in her way, she loves me too.. i believe the problem in our relationship lies in that when it all comes down to it, at the end of the day, we don't really like each other very much anymore.
this knowledge saddens me more than i can explain.. it wasn't always this way.. we did fight a lot as children.
perhaps it's the eight year age difference.

Dear Es,
As I was reading your post I couldn't help but think of myself in one area. You mentioned that your sister was having some doubts. I relate to that and what I did when I first started doubting that the Witnesses had the "truth". You are taught as a JW that if you have doubts then there is something lacking in you. It just can't be the Society because it is God backed. So then you try to figure out what could be wrong with you. Well, it seems that your sister is "discovering" that the "problems" are "Satan planting seeds of doubt" in her mind. She connects you with that. Thus she needs to back away from you. But more than that she needs to go somewhere new to get a "fresh start". It seems she is scared and running away is a good option for that. She won't have to deal with what ever issues are at this location. She thinks that it will be different elsewhere.
All the years that I was doubting I went to different congregations to get that "fresh" start and blamed Satan and many other things. One thing I never focused on was disproving others beliefs that the JW's were wrong. When I really focused on that then I realized that I couldn't truly defend my "faith" and then things started to work for me.I was then ready for the truth about the "Truth".
I think your sister may be running looking for something to take the doubts away. Inside her she is putting up all the right walls to stay in the "Truth" and to block out the doubts. She hasn't figured out yet that the doubts are the things that she should be investigating. She will find out in time, that moving isn't going to do the trick and make things okay. With an Elder for a husband though and everyone parroting all the same things I don't know if she can break free. I hope so. It took me forever. But I finally figured it out, so there is hope. There is always hope. I wish though that it didn't cost you the pain that it does. But at least you know who you are and what you believe and where you stand. Maybe that scares her too? Continue to love your sister as much as she will let you. That way you are there if her "safe" wall comes down.
Your sister is doing what kids do. She is plugging her ears and yelling la, la, la.... loudly so that she can't hear you, but only hearself, because if she hears you she will have to do something about what she is hearing and she doesn't want that. It would cause her whole life to change, and obviously she isn't ready for that.Love,

Hi Tina!
Taking a few minutes from the books and checking back. Nice to see so many friends.
Yep, I finally did it. I actually went back this spring quarter and am sticking with it! Only after three years of attemps! It was odd how many dropped out after a few weeks. And my daughter Rachel said after spring break more will disappear. This week off stuff might not be good though. I am already getting lazy on things. It is going to be hard Monday morning gettin' up and at 'em again.
Take care,

Hi Waiting!
Good to see you here. I like the name Lindy but a bunch of people seem to think I'm a guy, you know, the Lindburgh thing. But it is a nick-name for Linda and that is me.
I shared the grading on the curve thing with my husband and we both had a good laugh! Thanks!
The kids were I go seem to be okay with us "older folks". It is a small campus and not the main one. I can only go here for a couple years and then I have to transfer to the main campus in Akron. I don't like the idea of that. Even the professors at our campus don't prefer to go there.
Good for your son, going to law school! You must be so proud of him. They have a new series starting on TV about new law students, can't remember the name of it, but it looks like it might be pretty good. Maybe he can get a few tips. LOL
LindyHey Antique! Lindy is such a pretty name, btw.
Good to see your post. I always enjoy them. Didn't know you were a college kid, though. Congratulations! I've heard that the younger kids don't like the "mature adults" in their classes when graded on a curve. Brings the curve way too high and interfers with their drinking time.My son is in law school and he doesn't allow anything to interfer with his drinking time. lol.
Come back and visit.
