if you guys look at my first post, you'll notice i said "i still believe in god" even after losing my faith in the wt.

well, it's been 4 months since i wrote that and now i'm not so sure i still believe.

in fact i'm mostly convinced he doesn't exist.

fade_away, a few months ago I was in the same place you are now. I didn't believe there was a loving god that took a personal interest in us, but how could the wondrous world around us exist without a creator? So far, I have found three books particularly interesting and they have helped me answer many of my questions. They are: The "God" Part of the Brain by Matthew Alper, Richard Dawkins' The Greatest Show on Earth, and Why Evolution is True by Jerry A. Coyne. You, too, may find these helpful in your journey. Magwitch, I have to add one more line that's so unbelievable that I can't get it out of my head . . . No way! He's not gay! He's one of Jehovah's Witnesses! . . . as if being gay is the same as celebrating birthdays or doing drugs!
And more on topic: I would not want to be a parent with young children there and have to explain everything to them. The talks go over their heads, but the dramas are the only part of the conventions that kids actually pay attention to. At least, it was that way for me growing up.

Awen, thanks for posting these. I found them very interesting. I haven't looked into this very much, so I was surprised by some of the info. I especially enjoyed the first video. Your links showed up on my iPod touch, but not on the computer. So I thought I'd try re-posting them for you.

I also think he makes a good point saying, "When we go to investigate (nature), we shouldn't pre-decide what it is we're trying to do, except to find out more about it," along with his following point that the reason we find out more about it is because, rather than not looking for a specific answer, we're open to whatever the answer actually is.
Looking for predecided answers is like needing something to write with and wanting a pen, but all you can find in the drawer are pencils. Thus, you conclude, there is nothing to write with.

most concerned certain teachings that invloved genders, children, sex, sexuality and sexual orientations, disfellowshipping, apostates, blood, rape, and few other things, as well as the jw's unloving attitude toward so many people..

i have the service mtg part tonight..."the offer for july" which is the "was life created" brochure which has the flawed .

statement about a large sized spiderweb stopping a jumbo jet mid-flight.

Do the part and say something like, "This is the offer for the month. This this states the fact about the spiderweb and the jet. Now, remember brothers and sisters, that the wise and loving FDS has retracted this statement. So be sure to point it out to the householders as you make your placements." Or something to that effect.

Do You Have ABANDONMENT ISSUES?

through being "kept busy", jw parents can become emotionally distanced from their children, thus creating abandonment issues which manifest themselves later in adult life.

Great thread, sizemik. I hadn't thought about abandonment issues before. I can see some similarities like my parents not being emotionally present (not much, anyway) and security is a huge thing for me in a relationship. I've always been the one to leave. Maybe that is a subconscious abandonment thing or maybe it's something else. I don't know.
