it may be obvious, so please forgive me if you think i'm silly for asking.. 2 corinthians 4 verse 4 in the nwt:.

"among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the christ, who is the image of god, might not shine through".

There are few silly question, Sirona - an excellent post.

Every commentary I have on the subject places this as Satan, which makes me suspect that the book you are reading may be of Christadelphian origin.
It appears that you are approaching this verse contextually, and that is good because we weren't taught to do that

Hopefully someone adept at Greek will comment - my Greek is too elementary to be sure - but the definite article also seems to be on the world:

εν οις ο θεος του αιωνος
En hos ho theos ton aionos
In who the god the world/age

Apparently this can be the god of the ages, since aion (literally eon) can also be age, or god of eternity or perpetuity. Hence your rendering may not be off mark if it is truly God who veils or enlightens. Maybe this is truly the point that Paul was making - but most commentaries contradict.

i want to consider this point, free from the trinity / arian debate.

there have been an abundance of threads that have deteriorated into these doctrine, and it clouds this issue because tempers get raised.. so, please, can we keep it simple.

should jesus receive our worship, right here, right now?.

I couldn't agree more.

The problem is that many people, on leaving the JW's, are hung up on Jesus (or not, as the case may be). Who do you ask? Who can you ask? Is it permitted?

We've been indoctrinated by a "Law" system, folks. The boundaries, of what is acceptable, are far more vagure than most can deal with.

1. Steven also saw the Father there, but didn't address Him. He addressed Jesus, even while in the Father's presence.

2. Concerning "worship" that is a more involved subject, as we must not simply take the usual English translation as the last word on what it means in every instance. The Greek word often translated "worship" 'proskuneo'
But this is EXACTLY the same word used for worship of the Father, isn't it? How are you determining usage, by context or doctrinal bias?

3. John 20:28, where Thomas says "My Lord and my God", must be measured by Jesus words at verse 17
"Jesus said to her [Mary], 'Do not cling to me,
The point isn't about Jesus having a God, it's whether or not he is worthy of worship.

this is my first attempt to make contact with ex jws, i would love to make contact with ex jws in cambridgeshire/northamptonshire but would luv to hear from anyone else who wishes to share their wit/humour or just chat.

i have been out of "big mother" for 18 months after spending my whole life very actively associating with jws (all of my 32 years).

i'm a newbie that's been lurking here for a couple of weeks, trying to get up the nerve to post.i've made the decision to da myself after months of thought and research.i'm not familiar with the procedure,though.is there anything that any of you feel is particularly important for me to know?do i have to go before a jc to da?if i refuse to,will they just df me?i prefer to make it clear that i am the one who is voluntarily leaving, but having been a victim of the kangaroo court proceedings on other occasions, i just can't bring myself to put myself in the elder's "loving" hands again (a story for another day).i'm fortunate that none of my family members are baptised or even active witnesses at this point.. any input would be much appreciated.. cicatrix

Succinct letter.

They are unlikely to leave you alone, unless you give a reason, though. There's a line on the DA/DF form that asks for this, as well as how many times you were approached. Head office expects at least two attempts to retrieve you (I received EXACTLY two visits).

You know what they are like for filling in all the boxes on those forms.

If you're not high profile I would walk. They probably won't even notice your gone, if it's a largish congregation. Don't bridle about that - unless you havesome close friendships, it just shows that they are more concerned about numbers than people.

Sending in a letter of DisAssociation may give you closure, if you really want it, but the reaction you get may vary, depending on the body. Some will continue to harass, and you sound a little concerned about that, from your post.

well, in between my last post on corporate brainwashing an hour or so ago and now, i just managed to get myself a new role within the charity that i work with on a daily basis (http://www.selfdirection.org).

although not full time, i am upto 26hrs p/w.

my job title is enabler and trainer for individuals with severe handicaps and/or severe learning difficulties.

Coming Out; A Question.

i'm intrigued to see that prisca has decided to "come out" and posted her real pic, (even her car has turned up in a post by stephanaus).

termite has said "sod 'em all" with the result that her titian locks are visible in umpteen posts, and li'l toe put up his pic right from day one.. my question (to everyone) is this: do you feel that revealing your real identity on this site is an essential part of your departure from the religion of jehovah's witnesses, or do you feel that it doesn't make any difference to your personal growth whether or not you ever reveal who you really are?.

Before DA'ing I was very careful about what I posted, in the way of personal details. The only revealing thing I posted was that I was a Scottish elder. Even this was used, however, as I got asked some unusual question by the Circuit Overseer, at the elders school last year. Fortunately I was on the way out, because I feel certain they would have tracked me down eventually.

Afterwards I posted my pic and my first name, but little else. I've let a couple of people have my number, and two a safe postal address (one of whom was Randy Watters).

I've been working and playing on the Internet for long enough to know that there are some unsavoury characters out there. Hence I'm always edgy when I see folks post their person details, even in chat.
