by truth_about_the_truth inhere is an excerpt from a book called "fresh wisdom-breakthrough to enlightenment" that really hits the point:
the con of religion
we have never met a christian who has given up everything and followed christ.

I did it for two hours last night....
by AK - Jeff inattended another church service.
i enjoyed the modern music at the beginning of it.
the 'sermon' or message was a discussion of leviticus chapter 3. i found it interesting, but not particularly inspiring.

TS:
if the Bible is true... correct doctrine... if those Christians knew their Bibles better
If only it were that simple. Its precisely because folks have that level of interest in their bibles that there is so much discussion on the subject. If it truly were so easy to interpret it would be an irrelevant argument. For that reason I would suggest that the issue isn't one of doctrine but one of love. Ironically it probably always has been...
Augustine: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, diversity; in all things, love."

Prove to me Jesus existed...............
by passive suicide inhere's a thought guys......prove that jesus existed at all..using anything besides the bible....or the writings of josephus (which have been proven tampered with by the early christian church).
you are all arguing a moot point...not only has the 'organization' been deceiving you.....but the bible itself is a made up, bit of pap, used to enslave man to his own dismay....prove me wrong.
use historical accuracy.....i'm waiting......

They're a little charred after the Jerusalem fires of 70AD but still servicable. I can't guarantee that they've not been doctored, however
Sadly I can't provide similar evidence for Julius Caser, however, so must come to the conclusion that he never existed

Still spewing forth the conspiracy theorist propaganda, huh? Do you not realise that you are just an unwitting dupe, a cog in the wheels of the machine that grinds on desiring the turmoil of minds arguing for and against the possibility of elite overloads? These people are not actually starving, but they are not having too good a time either.
You've never travelled, have you? You basically believe what someone else told you without verifying it first-hand, weave it into your own vain imaginings and propagate the rumour and gossip.

Your proposition is ludicrous. You might equally have asked us to prove that Julius Caesar existed without making any reference to works of antiquity...
I'm not stating that the claims of the bible are verifiable with regards to what he is alleged to have done but your opening gambit of proving the historical reality of any living individual in such a manner, without reference to any of the evidences that would need to be used to support such a claim, is completely illogical.
If you don't want to believe in the bible, so be it, but try not to base your new beliefs on such shaky and illogical grounds when there's so much more you could have a go at.

We've gained more than we've lost, including the potential for so much more than we ever would have had or achieved.
However, it would rip my heart out if I lost my little nephews. They're like my own. Fortunately my sister left the JWs about the time that I did. I totally empathise!!!

I don't think I would be staying around that church, either. To me, if their doctrine doesn't add up to at least something akin to my own persuasions, then I'm just inviting a continual internal battle that I don't need. I like being challenged, but we all need somewhere to call "home".
Groups of any description will always let you down at some point, even the most secular. If you cease to share a common interest you will all start to part company. All very human really. The distinction I would make over the JWs and some fundamentalist groups is that they will actively shun you when you leave.
Meanwhile there's no harm to keep searching for a group that meets your personal needs. You aren't seeking ultimate "truth", just a few like-minded souls...
