  this is an honest question on my part.

  someone on this board asked me 'how do you know' a while ago and i really struggled with it.

  in fact, it was a turning point for me.

  The former. Basically as close as you can get to make sense, a logical god if you will. I'd say along the lines of Einstein's god.

  so after 18 years (since the age of 5) i have converted from the jws to protastant christianity.

  i have been biblically shown what i believe to be truths about the trinity, hell, and heaven (ideas that i debated against classical christians for many years) since i left the witnesses.

  i read a lot of things on this site (as well as others) that really confuses me.

  Hey bushido, I think it was precisely by seeking that I realised Bible God doesn't make any sense.

  Think on this one text, Acts 10:24, God is not partial.

  Compare that to the reality we face. If God wasn't partial, he wouldn't allow thousands of denominations to exist, let alone all the other non-xtian religions.

  It is estimated a third of the world pop is xtian. We r left to assume god kills off the rest. You don't see a problem with that? And then, what if u got the wrong demom. down?

  Hey SBC, I agree with what you're saying about god. What does it for me is parasites and predation.

  However, if god existed and there was definitive proof, then I would just have to admit it, even if I didn't particularly like the answer.

  Also, since we are throwing speculative theories out the, which can't be proven, god is just as good a theory, IMO.

  Secondly, if the claim is being made as a rule that complex things are obviously designed by something more complex than themselves, then a complex designer must also have been designed by something more complex as well. You can't play the teleological argument card for a watch and the universe but then pick it up off the table for your god. That would be a double standard.

  Hey SBC, just for the sake of argument, can there ever be exceptions to the rule? We use this rule to determine that complex things have a complex designer, but what if the complex designer is self-contained?

  In other words, we arrive at design due to complexity because things in the universe had a start. If the universe had always been, there would be no need for this argument.

  Did Church fathers and Jesus see the Bible as metaphor?

  does anyone here believe that jesus viewed genesis as being a metaphor?

  if they believed it to be a historical account about real people, what are the implications?

  as a jw, i wasn't allowed to publicly entertain such questions.

  I think I was just happy believing in this Almighty, Benevolent being that would take care of humanity eventually.

  If he exists, he hasn't made himself all that well known, IMO and when I see things like predation and past mass extinctions on this planet, I don't really expect anything from him, good or bad.

  In other words, if he exists, he could do a much better job of letting himself be known accurately.

  one of my friends who is a ms told me today that the elders have 'marked' me because i'm a reg.pioneer and i've decided to go to college next semester???!

  he said he can't tell me anymore but to be careful---what the hell does 'mark' mean?

  i've heard people here say jw's believe that jehovah will slaughter non-members of the jw religion when armageddon comes any day now.

  does the watchtower teach that jehovah himself will do the killing, or is it delegated to someone else like jesus, satan, angels, or humans killing each other?

  who is the actual killer in the picture?

  Saturday Morning Service

  a couple of months ago, i thought out plans to go out in field service because i was stimulated by my cousin who's married and has recently been appointed a ministerial servant.

  i thought to myself, if my life-long newly appointed ministerial servant cousin can knock on doors and present the watchtower and awake!

  so can i. so, i can at least progress toward a status other than inactive.

  So you get kicks out of posting pro-JW in what is essentially the uber anti-JW website out there?

  Also, why would any of us throw hot coffee on you? We went through the same crap and I hope would never treat other JWs in such a fashion. If given the opportunity, I certainly would discuss all the contradictions in the WT and the Bible along with the failed prophecies and such.

  In all honesty, what did you ever get out of service? I'd have an interesting conversation once in a while, but for the most part is was mundane. I don't need to waste time knocking on empty doors or talking to people that simply have no interest in converting to my religion.
