That's like asking how to identify which super-power will get me to work faster, Flash's running speed or Superman's flying speed.

Not Religon...not Belief....Not Inerrancy: INTERPRETATION is christianity

Loving your neighbour as yourself is one of those things that you don’t need a great deal of intelligence to comprehend, hence the simplicity and superiority of the Christian message. -apostatethunder
I appreciate the sentiment. However, what it means to "do good" varies from person to person, culture to culture, etc. As an example, JW's think that by recommending others to avoid higher education, they are loving their neighbors as themselves, when in certain cases they may be hurting them! What's that saying, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"?

Who Really is The Faithful and Discreet Slave?
by Recovery inlet's assume, as most of you probably believe, that the anointed christians are not the fds.
if the anointed are not the fds, who are?.

I know this is stupid, but I'll give it a stab. Ok. Let's assume the interpretation is correct.
Matthew 24:45-51
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I don't understand how the "faithful and wise servant" can also be the "domestics", according to JW interpretation. Can you explain that to me?

Daniel 8:20,21 - what do secular authorities say?
by konceptual99 ini am looking for anything that suggests there is a rational explaination for daniel apparently predicting the rise of greece as a world power.
there is some stuff online suggesting that scholars years ago thought it was modified over time but evidence points to it having been written in the 6th centuary bc and they have been forced to correct their view.. is there anything anywhere that presents the accepted secular view of this passage?.
cheers.

The book correctly predicts the restoration of the Temple in approximately the correct length of time (3 1/2 years instead of 3), which was something that Josephus found impressive. - Leolaia
Interesting. In your opinion, does this grant it divine providence, or is there another explanation? Considering all the mishmash of ideas and re-interpretations that Daniel holds, it wouldn't seem likely, but still.... there is always that possibility for me.

Ad-hominem and straw-man detected!
Consider the Source
One crackpot has spent thousands of dollars sending letters to the elders of every congregation in the USA, some in the UK, and all the branch offices to tell them about the NGO “apostasy”. You won‘t believe the story behind this deluded man who think‘s he's a prophet of God. Read this chapter... -

My question about Daniel is that it predicted the Roman Empire? Would that be evidence of prophecy fulfilled?

Theistic Evolution
by cofty inthoughtful christians including scientists like francis collins and kenneth miller accept the evidence for evolution unconditionally.
the only thing that distinguishes their understanding of life from the views of dawkins is that they believe god planned and started the process intentionally.. just a word about the subtle but vital distinction between "theistic evolution" and "intelligent design".... over-simplifications alert - intelligent design is creationism in disguise.
it is a modern twist on the "paley's watch" argument.

Perhaps it would be better if we listened to binadub describe his beliefs, as opposed to the terms he's using.
By definition ID is nothing more than belief that the unknown original cause of creation was by a supreme intelligent agent. I happen to believe that. I do not believe in "creationism" as it is defined.
Ok binadub, you do not believe in Creationism. Rather, you seem to believe in a deity that was the first cause that set into motion the universe. Apart from that, he has not/will not interfere with his creation, for lack of a better term.
Your belief is compatible with Deism, and it in no way interferes with science. There are still so many unknowns to be discovered.

When you see some beautiful creations, then they say that Jehovah is wonderful...
by Iamallcool inhave you noticed that the dubs have mentioned from time to time when you see some beautiful creations, then they say that jehovah is wonderful?
is there something wrong with their thinking?.

Truth be said, Jehovah would deprive me of every ounce of pleasure he could get away with. The pleasure that manages to get through, he expects copious praise for--which he isn't getting. What about all the many times Jehovah has stopped Satan and His Demons from getting the opposite sex into my life? Jehovah has used his angels to maneuver the environment to make it impossible and highly offensive for me to even try, and he is determined to see that my soul never sees anything different. - WTWizard
I LOL'ed at this so hard! Thank you! (tears of spastic joy)

Anyone in Miami?
by sseveninches inwhere you're an ex-jw or still a jw, if you live in miami, florida (broward/palm beach county is cool too), i want to hear your story.
i've already given mine, but i'll tell it again just for the purpose of this thread.. i was researching masturbation because of the fact that the wt makes it out to be such a bad thing despite admitting that it isn't even mentioned in the bible.
along with that, i was researching "porneia" in general, and then i discovered this site.
