usually i can just put the people out of my mind but when a big event comes up like me expecting my first child, i did reach out a bit.
this one friend in particular was kind of like an older brother to me.

I doubt after that reply that you guys will get along well. There will be a big tension in the room.
Imagine worse case scenario that, out of his concern, he sends and elder to "help" you. I believe that is the last thing you want.

I am not religious, but I go to a Unitarian Universalist church. I feel positive effects of belonging to a community. It has nothing to do with belief.

The gist of the article is, social bonds help us through life. After all we are social creatures.
Onthewayout - As for the old testament not foretelling anything, it foretold that Israel would be scattered throughout the earth, it foretold in the future that they would be brought back as a nation. I find it amazing that almost 2,000 years ago, they were scattered, and did not have their own country, after WW2, they have a country again and being brought back to it. You can find that prediction all over the old testament, I can find exact ones if you want to see.
1.) Ever hear of the self-fulfilling prophecy? Oedipus comes to mind..
2.) The problem with the "fulfillment of Israel once again becoming a nation" and all Christian denominations in general, is that they have their own way of interpreting things. And they all believe they are right and the best thing since canned bread.
In this instance, it's not like I'm defending the Watchtower interpretation, but they have a valid point. Israel has indeed become a nation again. But a secular one. They don't even control the temple anymore, where the Dome of Rock or Mecca now stands. So how can this secular nation even be a fulfillment of prophecy?

Not to mention it has the convinient coincidence of being very similar to "The Org(anisation)", a word used by the Watchtower probably more than Jesus.
(A poster once did a word check on the WT CD Rom, and found the word "organisation" to be stated more than "Jesus", I believe)

Funny stuff guys, but in all seriousness, given that scenario, what would you really do? I like this exercise because even with God intervention, things still turn out pretty much the same.
Another example. To prove that I exist, I make a brand new animal, and display it to the world. It is beautiful, functional in any environment, and barks or moo's my name. There is no question now that I exist, and that I am indeed God. I unleash it in the world, and guess what happens? It becomes the most sought after rare meat for restaurants. I had unleashed 1 million specimens into the world and in a matter of 6 weeks, they were all gone.
I say, wtf is wrong with humanity?

@ N.drew, I didn't mean to generalize. But, you know there are some pretty bad people out there. I put out the asteroid thing, because as funny as it sounds, it would be valid. I could write my name there, as God, but if I ceased to interfere with nature after that, chances are either asteriods or humans themselves would wipe my name.
@LostGeneration, are the holes in the shape of a unicorn? Because, if the holes uniformly appeared like that throughout the world, then I would say that is a pretty convincing arguement for your presence. Would your name then be Cassiopeia?

is it because it's not considered 'christian' or do they know that muslims won't take their insults?.

Because Islam is not Babylon the Great... although if Islam is not the true religion, according to the WTS, and they are misleading billions of humans..... (not to mention one of the fastest growing faiths in the world) then why doesn't WTS present a defense against Islam?
See, this is why I have a problem with religion in general..... God seems to have a problem with everyone, and yet all everyone tries to do is please God!
