Speaking of Cordless microphones - Did you hear about the bro who tried to take a bathroom break during the reading of a long paragraph? He forgot to turn the mic off while he was peeing and the whole congregation was treated to the event.

Microphone "Handling"
by SYN inwhat is all the fuss about?
when i was still assimilated (i.e.
still in the borg, but wanting out every second of that time), there was so much emphasis put on microphone handling that it was almost unreal.

I am so sorry for Bill and his family to have to deal with disfellowshipping. It is a horrible experience and one no one should have to go through. However, being disfellowshipped was both the worst thing that ever happened to me and the best! Even though I eventually got reinstated, I found I had learned to much to sit there and let them ever dictate to me again. I left of my own free will. Good will come of this Bill.
It is sad that people still in the org probably will never know "the truth" of this or any other issue the WTBTS chooses to explain away with lame excuses like disfellowshipping.

We would all be normal if being a JW was like all the other religions. Is is not the same it is worse. No other religion throws people out of the church for exposing wrongdoing within the church. There is certainly not much good to say about the Catholic church and the horrible anguish they have caused, however, they are not now heaping insult to injury by throwing the innocents out.

Assemly food tickets - WHY??
by home_and_dry ini was laying in bed last night thinking how lucky i am that i havent had to undergo the mental torture of attending the district convention.
then i started reminiscing about the old days and i suddenly remembered those ridiculous tickets you had to buy to pay for food.
they were those brown cheap cardboard type efforts with i think 10 tickets per sheet.

It just wasn't an assembly without the botulism from the food at the assemblies!! I remember when we cooked hot meals twice a day for the conventions. We spent the entire time cooking. Scrambled eggs, Biscuits & gravy, oj, ummmmm- Breakfast. Those yummy salisbury steaks mashed pots green beans, salad for lunch. Now that was an accomplishment!

Men - English Leather from a million years ago. It reminds me of my first love, but never smell it around any more. I think they quit making it.
Today I like Polo Sport. Although my husband doesn't wear cologne.
For women I love Georgio Aire.

I can't believe the unrealistic things they ask. No flirting? They started it with no dating until you are ready to get married at a convention back in early eighties. That of course led to kids getting married in their teens. What a joke!! Now don't even cast them goo goo eyes at the opposite sex. Yeah that will work.

Good Answer to question of "Disassociate?&...
by Lollylou ina friend of mine was telling me about what happened when the elders came to talk to a witness who had decided to start going to southeast christian church.
it was one of the best responses i have ever heard and wanted to share it with you.. when they asked her if she would write a letter disassociating herself from the watchtower organization.
her response was "why would i want to do that?

Nope she isn't disfellowshipped. This happened several months ago. No more meetings with her either. She is a widow with a teenage boy, who lost her husband in a terrible farming accident. She hasn't gone around trying to talk others into leaving, nothing. I know that just because you have done nothing wrong doesn't stop them from disfellowshipping, but in her case they have done nothing. Of course she hasn't heard from any of her so-called witness friends.

Ida Eisenhower and Jehovah's Witnesses
by Kenneson inmarley cole in 1955 wrote "jehovah's witnesses the new world society," which includes a photocopy of a letter ida eisenhower wrote in 1943 to j.w.
lawson of long island, n.y. therein, she stated that she had been in the truth since 1896 and naomi engle who stayed with her was also a witness.
since she died the next year, mrs. eisenhower apparently died as a faithful jehovah's witness.

I remember reading the book over thirty some odd years ago when I was just becoming a witness. It was one of the turning points to becoming a witness. I was so impressed that a "worldly" source could even identify "God's organization". This was a source of information other than the WTBTS that was pointing me to JW's.
I didn't find out that it was written by a witness until years later.

When they asked her if she would write a letter disassociating herself from the Watchtower Organization. Her response was "Why would I want to do that? I am a Christian and as such I love all people. Why would I ever want to disassociate myself from my friends? No, I believe to write a letter of disassociation would be very unchristian and something I would never do." Needless to say the elders had no defense for that. Maybe this would help someone being faced with this situation.

District Convention - Portland Maine
by proandcon in"thrilling convention"...only took notes of comments / observations not including:.
- typical "gloom and doom" (real heavy since 9/11).
- "do more" (especially as some one of a kind robotic drones demonstrate).

That is one memory I am not sure I want to revisit. Assemblies were always gossip central and it never failled that somebody had to have an elders meeting afterwards.
It sounds like the same old same old. The only differance is damage control (i.e. Satan is controlling the media).
