People who say "I saw that!" when by coincidence an attractive woman walks by as you happen to be practicing safe driving techniques and checking your mirrors
Did that bring back memories!
One day my wife and I (we've been married 41 years) were driving down main street when we both spotted this gorgeous little slim thing tripping on down the sidewalk. Yessireebob, she looked like she was straight out of Hollywood. I doubt that she weighed more than 100 lbs.
Me, I kept my eyes straight ahead like a good little boy, but I knew darn well my little gal was watching me like a hawk. After we got past, I glanced at her with an ornery look in my eyes and drawled: "Darlin', I wouldn't dare."
Her eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Why not?" She asked.
"Wal, heck, sweetheart, if I ever trying makin' love to a little gal like that, I'd go clear through her!!"
My wife laughed until the tears were rolling down her cheeks. To this day (about 8 years later), whenever we see a little gal like that, all I have to do is turn slowly and look at my wife and we both crack up.

my dub sister planned this little event to see the lion king.
she invited my two other sisters and their families and purposely left me out.
when my family asked about me, she just shrugged her shoulders -- the little hypocrite couldn't "stumble" them by telling them she was shunning her own sister.
More power to you, gal.
It's like I've told the elders and anyone else that ever brought it up: "When you disfellowshipped me, you removed yourselves from having any authority over me." And from that day on, that is how I conducted myself.

moxy raised a point in the "exaggeration" thread that aggravated me at the meetings.
mispronunciations.
moxy mentioned the word 'hyperbole' as frequently being mispronounced.. another one that bugged me was 'epitome'.
I think my two favorites were:
The time my Dad went to the door and met a super patriot type, who promptly yelled "ARE YOU ONE OF JEE-WIT-NA-HO-VAHS???" Dad cracked up.
The very warm, caring Mexican brother who had a very rough youth and had only been through the 3rd grade. He loved to read the paragraphs, and everyone appreciated his enthusiam, but sometimes it was still a chore listening to him.
One night we were studying about Nebuchadnezzar and he got that one just fine, but when he ran across Nebuchadnezzar's father, Nabopolassar, it stopped him cold. We all waited in glee, not knowing what would come out of him. Finally, he says, "Nay--, Naybo--, Aye, aye, aye!!!! Why didn't they name him John??" We laughed until our bellies ached.
I still love that brother.

i heard from someone that the wts was going to or had already announced something about the un involvement at an assembly.
anyone else heard of this or is it a local thing ?.
i would guess they may have only done this because of the coverage in the uk national newspaper which they know they have to counter.
Excellent --- and right on, Bible Examiner.
Would you be willing to post a copy of that letter you're sending?
Others may like to send out copies too.

I hope you continue to post on a regular basis.
Well, I wouldn't have quit, but between the yellow jacket and hornet season keeping me busy, and a few other things happening, I just had too much on my plate at the same time.
So that's what a "paradym shift" is! How come that generation always has to use fancy words to express simple concepts, eh? Tell me that.
Perhaps, this is what happened to our friend Farkel. He has always spent considerable time helping others. Now, he expresses a desire for us and him to be more conciliatory with people. I, for one, will take him at his word
Yeah, me too.
Hey, mommy,
You wouldn't have a daughter by the name of Pandora, would you?

teejay --- I don't ask for agreement, for it is usually in disagreement that we find the best opportunities for learning. I do hope for peace.
I have no desire to beat a dead horse, either, and the idea of arguing a point in order to see who "wins" is repugnant to me. But your peaceful answer makes me hope that a further illustration of the matter would be considered in a friendly way. Perhaps I could "gain my brother"?
When I was 18 years old and just out of highschool, I went to Southern California and took a job as an apprentice with my grandfather (who was a member of the remnant). He was a house painter. We worked together every day and became quite close, and talked about everything under the sun.
One day he mentioned the time that he took a job painting the inside of a prostitute's home. I was young and answered, "Oh, REALLY???" I raised my eyebrows and had a big grin on my face.
I'll never forget his answer. He was amused by my reaction, but said quite soberly, "No, Tom, that wasn't the way it was at all." I shut up and listened, as I'd come to know that his insight into things was deep.
He continued: "I treated her like a lady, because I wanted to know in my heart that when I left, if she wasn't a lady, it wasn't my fault." That hit me hard.
Since then I've done my best to utilize his wisdom in that matter and in all my other relationships with others. It has been a source of joy and fulfillment in my life.
In regards to Farkel, he's had some rough times lately, and there have been times when he wondered if he could survive them. Would you find greater joy in knowing that he made it through in part due to your encouragement, or in the knowledge that he made it in spite of your discouragement? Or, if he didn't make it, how will you ever know whether or not the weight you added was the final straw that broke him? Would it make you proud?
I don't think it would. Personally speaking, one of the greatest joys I know is when I see someone else grow and prosper due to some small thing I've done, preferably without them even knowing.
I suspect you feel similarly. The catch is, to land on others due to their imperfections usually destroys those opportunities.
My best to you.

LOL Danny,
"you leave to much blood on the floor"
I presume you mean yours. . . The truth hurts, doesn't it?
Now you know how it feels when you do that to others. Lighten up and give others the benefit of the doubt. It makes life so much easier, especially for you. I know. Been there, done that.

Hi, All,
There is a tremendous amount of information on those UN/WTBTS threads, so if someone has already covered this, I apologize.
Away back on page 16 of the first thread, MacHislopp posted something thats been nagging at me. He quoted an article in The Guardian mentioning the top 25 recipients of foreign funds in India. One paragraph included the WTBTS. It read:
"The other such organisations included in the list are: the Tamil
Nadu-based World Vision of India (Rs 35,15,39000), the Missionaries of
Charity of West Bengal (Rs 17,28,45000), the Watch Tower Bible Tract
Society of India of Maharashtra (Rs 14,60,90000) and the Kerala-based
Gospel for Asia (Rs 14,44,26000)."
Not being familiar with the Indian monetary notation, I was wondering just how much money that was. Here, if my figures are correct, is what I found out.
The amount given above that the WTBTS received is Rs 14,60,90000. I discovered that in India, 100,000 rupees = 1 lakh, and 100 lakhs = 1 crore. This would explain the odd placement of the commas.
Now, today's paper says the the exchange rate for one rupee is .0208 dollar. Now, taking that figure and multiplying that by 146,090,000, we come up with the interesting figure of $3,038,672. That's a fairly decent piece of pocket change.
I'm thinking that it may be interesting to contact the reporter, one Srinand Jha, who wrote this story, and double check some items: 1. Were these funds indeed from the UN and if not, then where? 2. What were they used for? 3. Was that sum for one year only, or was it the total amount received from the UN to the date of the article? 4. Is there a paper trail?
The answers could be fascinating. Could it be that the UN actually PAID the WTBTS to accept the library card seeing as how they are so holy? LOL.
