How many poet's are among us?
by codeblue ini have been thinking about that lately.
the last thread i started, william penwell wrote an excellent poem, which i enjoyed tremendously.. i have been writing poetry since i was 8 years old....i also write songs.. so how many of you are poets/and or song writers?
have any of you published your works and if so....any help on finding a publisher?.

I'm impressed with the poems here.
Sheila, loved your work too, but don't you think this is a bit harsh?
So detective don't nay say something you don't understand or have the full concept of.
You are coming across as very dismissive of Detective. Invalidating. Why tell Detective to (in effect) shut up just because Detective decided to post about another method of getting stuff published? I don't get this condescending attitude. That's how you come across in this instance anyway.
I look forward to reading all the different perspectives here, even if I don't necessarily agree with them. Getting to know why a person holds an opinion you don't agree with might be a better way to go, instead just telling people "don't say anything you don't understand" (here you are assuming that Detective does not understand, when to me it looks like Detective is simply stating an opinion on how to get stuff published).
Anyhoo. Carry on folks.

plus, I think that "totally awesome!" would have been a better choice than just simply "awesome!" because adding the "totally" would have given the whole piece a certain cachet which it currently lacks. don't you agree? think about it.

Illegals Working at Wal-Mart Arrested
by simplesally inapparently there was a raid and many illegal immigrants were arrested when they came to work to clean the wal-mart.
of course, wal-mart executives who knowingly hired or contracted these people to clean will be in trouble too, but what is so amazing is the attitude of the illegal immigrant.. now mr. zavala feels cheated, saying he worked as hard as he could pursuing the american dream, only to face an immigration hearing that could lead to deportation for himself, his wife, eunice, and their three children, 10, 7 and 5 years old.
he was one of 250 janitors employed by wal-mart contractors who were arrested at 60 wal-mart stores before dawn on thursday.. "my family's not happy about this," said mr. zavala, who said he paid a "coyote" $2,000 to smuggle him into the united states three years ago.

Compare:
With:
The differences in the way that the national composition of these illegal immigrants is described is interesting, as is which nationality seems to be receiving the most focus here.

Domestic Violence
by Patrick ina pebble out of your neighbors eye.
such a wonderful statement about judgement of others.. as we fight wars on the other side of the world in an attempt to rid the world of terrorists.
i would like to bring out the fact that we have terrorists right here in our town and every town in our nation.. it is called domestic violence.

This reminds me of something I read about how Nazi Germany was Hitler's re-creation of his childhood, only now he was finally able to turn the tables on his family.

Myth or Fact
by Patrick inthe non-rationality of a myth is its very essence, for religion requires a demonstration of total faith by the suspension of logic or critical doubt.. all stories which occur in the bible are truths for the devout christian, whether they correspond to historical fact or not.
all human societies have myths in this sence, and normally the myths to which the greatest importance is attached are those which are the least probable.
it is common for all religious systems to make sure all important stories recur in several different versions.. man is created in genesis 1 verse 27 and then is created all over again in 2 verse 7. and, as if the two first men were not enough, we also have noah in chapter 8.

Time to re-think religion. WHY? tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.
Which makes one wonder why Christian religions seek a tax-exempt status but the individuals within those religions must obey Jesus' words.

Why Is It That Some People Can Always Get Away With Stuff?
by minimus indid you ever notice how some people always seem to get out of things and others always get caught?
too many times, 2 people would get into trouble but only 1 would get reproved for it while the other person either got a wrist slap or even denied they were involved.
i've seen a sister tell the elders she got involved in immorality, got privately reproved, got restrictions upon her, etc.

Satan may open the door, but man makes the choice to walk through- (rough quote)
Question is: Did this guy actually walk through the open door? Time will tell.
