I do hate to play devil's advocate for anyone who might actually be a predator but didn't this article say that the detectives tried to set up the meeting and the man declined saying he didn't want to jeopardize his life over a cute boy? According to the report, the guy stopped short of committing a crime. In fact, I think it should be a crime for a police officer to actively solicit illegal behavior. They didn't find anything in his apartment. They didn't find any evidence of wrongdoing on his person so just where is the crime?
Child abuse is not a subject to be taken lightly but then neither is our liberty. No wonder we fear the cops.
Just imagine all the ways a cop could solicit illegal behavior from you.
Suppose he's holding the newspaper rack open as you approach and tells you to take one.
Maybe he's waiting behind a sign on a lonely stretch of highway where you know it's safe to drive over the posted speed limit.
They wouldn't do that would they???????

Ty: Anyone that would speak to a child in that manner needs to be arrested. Do you have children? Would you want someone being sexually explicit to your son, daughter? YES, he may not have followed thru with the meeting but the conversations I am sure were disgusting enough. Also, them trapping pedophiles before they can ruin a childs life is fine by me....

Sheila,
Please don't play the "Do you have children?" card. That implies that I somehow value life differently. As a matter of fact I do have a beautiful 8 year old daughter. Guess what. My daughter would not be online and on the phone chatting with some one I didn't know.
but the conversations I am sure were disgusting enough.
How do you know? Are you going to take the word of Donald Foster as gospel? You know, the same guy who said that after this weak case "There is no doubt that the arrest of this individual has prevented him from any future contact with minors," Yeah, I trust him, don't you? We will never have to worry about this guy ever again. LOL yeah right.
Nothing personal but this is exactly the point I'm making. As soon as the police point their finger and yell pedophile everyone grabs their torch and gathers to kill the monster. When will people start asking questions?

In what manner? And, for that matter, what child?
YES, he may not have followed thru with the meeting but the conversations I am sure were disgusting enough
Disgusting enough for what? From what I can gather, no crime was committed, nor would one have been committed even if there really was a child involved.
Also, them trapping pedophiles before they can ruin a childs life is fine by me....
Well, it's not fine by me. The only people who should be punished by the judicial system are people who have actually committed crimes against other people. Not people who might do so.

They don't arrest adults for having civil conversations with adults. I happen to have a LOT of experience in this I trapped pedo's for quite sometime in the same type of situation. What they say to someone they think is a child is DISGUSTING to me as an adult. There are many children that do not have supervision for many factors and they need to be protected just as much as other children. Funny that anyone would be distrubed by this story for me I know if my husband and I aren't conversing in a vile way with a child online we don't have to worry. A shame this creep was

There is no doubt that predators exist and what they say is probably disgusting. The point is: What crime did this guy commit? It's possible that the cops have an iron clad case. If so, then I challenge those reporting the news to report the actual news instead of just calling the man an alleged predator. 41 yr old men need to be protected too.

41 Year old men can take care of themselves a child can't. I am sure they are not divulging their evidence for a reason. If he is innocent wonderful I question that since he didn't want to "meet with a cute boy."
Funkey: Read the news article

The point is:
What did the police say to get this guy to that point? Obviously the guy did not actually want to meet the "kid".
Would a real kid actually talk to this guy? I have my doubts. The police could have created this whole crime. We do know that the man was not actually talking to a kid. He was talking to a cop. So is there an actual crime? From the evidence shown to us, I don't see one.
Remember when DeLorean was busted in a sting operation? Did he actually commit a crime? The undercover cops approached him and asked him if he would transport some drugs for them. Should be have to protect ourselves from our own government and their ability to tempt people to do things they wouldn't normally do?

Satan may open the door, but man makes the choice to walk through- (rough quote)
Question is: Did this guy actually walk through the open door? Time will tell.
