The episode where children find an escape from unhappiness and find a loving home by going through a secret passage at the bottom of their swimming pool -- one of my all-time favorites.

22The Twilight Zone...any fans?
by Preston ini am a huge fan of the twilight zone and i wondered if anyone on the board was a fan.
since the strangeness of the whole series mirrors my own jw life in some ways i found several episodes strangely fascinating.
interestingly my first experience watching it was in the reprised version of the series in the 80's and there was an episode where a shadowy figure lived under a kid's bed in return he would not hurt the owner until... and that's what i think made the series unique in how they added a twist that made every episode special, disturbing, or thought-provoking.

for me, i suppose, it was badly cooked (i cooked it myself, say no more) crocodile....i'd like to try swan, and if i can find a loophole in the law, i will.

Wow, I had a similarly horrifying experience with a brother and his family raising rabbits for food. At the time, we hadn't a clue that that was why they were raising them. We thought they were pets, and no one tried to disavow us of that notion.We were invited to dinner and of course, we children were NOT told that the cute little bunnies we were looking at were what we were going to be eating. The brother selected a bunny and tried to bully us into whacking it on the head with a rolling pin -- we very confused and in tears. Disgusted at our wimpiness, he finally took the rabbit away and brained it right in front of us. (bad memories of this guy and his spawn -- don't know if he is still an elder or even alive at this point.)
I think it was supposed to be an exercise in toughening us kids up.

i was on the south side of chicago today, showing a large property to an investor.
the area i was in was fairly nice, somewhat middle class in appearance.

What is good and what is bad music?
by hillary_step ina hundred years ago or so, when women did not all look the same and screech like ancient hinges, and strip malls were just a nightmare in a squirrels mind, i wrote a jazz column for a newspaper.
it did not last long as i was eaten up by the wt and became a regular pioneer with an irregular notion and a pile of scruffy s8's.. .
i well remember one issue in which i took great exception to a comment made by duke ellington which seemed to me to be far to general and subjective to make much sense.

Movies to make a JW THINK
by M.J. ini've heard various suggestions of movies to show a dub.. those of us with a spouse / family in the borg might find it pretty useful to rent such movies as just another way of chipping away at the indoctrination, or drawing attention to the wts control tactics.. one movie i saw which was somewhat helpful was one called "equilibrium", which was suggested on this board a while back.
its about a society that has acheived peace and order by requiring everyone to repress their emotions through sedatory drugs.
the good thing about this one was when it showed how everyone was so indoctrinated to follow the directives of the organization in charge, with every person keeping an eye on everyone else.

Please don't let your ex isolate your gifted little girl.
Not all homeschooling families are neglectful of their children's educations, but your situation seems likely to produce a young woman who will get cheated out of many great opportunities -- to learn, to be with other children her age, and a support system that can help her get on a university-bound track.

Good for them that despite being raised JW they are pursuing their dream but *good god* it's fairly annoying for them to put themselves out there as the devout JW poster children -- it's a dishonest recruitment tactic IMHO.
I think that is the biggest reason why these girls are starting to get on my nerves.

An End To Shunning

for those of you that may recall my posts about my family and that after i left the wts, how i wrote long (and painful) letters to my nonjw children among others.
i had tried to explain why i had shunned them and how very sorry i was, and for all the mistakes i had made throughout their childhoods as a jw mother.
