Yep, mP, you're correct. And an "inspired" book, quoting a supposedly non-inspired book is just a crock. The Scriptures-Inspired book (ha! haven't heard that in awhile) uses cross-quotation as an important "proof" of cannonicity. But I think the book of Enoch is simply too inconvenient. So I think they get around it by saying that a quote from a book could be inspired without it meaning that the whole book is inspired.

If solid proof were suddenly found that the Book of Enoch should be included in the standard Bible, would that pose a problem for the Jehovah's Witnesses in regards to Michael the Archangel as Jesus?
by I_love_Jeff inif the book of enoch (elaborates and gives mention to 6 more archangels) suddenly became part of the bible due to solid evidence, how would this effect the shakey jw doctrine of michael the archangel as being jesus?
there are six other archangels mentioned in this book; could it be possible, if included in the jw bible, that one of the other archangels could be jesus?
would they excuse it somehow and simply stick with their implicit understanding of jesus=michael?.

With respect to higher education Healthworker, specifically, no. My dad got canned for this very issue. And he technically only ever said what the WT official position was: "It is a family decision". But because he allowed his kids to go to college and encouraged other kids who did so and because his kids set a bad example for being such good examples (pioneering, living at home, etc.), he was guilty of independent thinking and was ... err ... relieved of all responsibility (and believe me, prior to that point, he had A LOT).

Thanks for the tip! How ridiculously annoying.
Sorry about the dup post.
Funny! If solid proof that the Book of Enoch should be in the canon was found... JWs would have a MUCH bigger problem than Michael the Archangel. I have to say, reading the Book of Enoch was the beginning of the end of my solid faith in the Christian Bible.

My husband and I went to the DC this summer for the fun of it (you know, now there's a fair amount of humor now that we don't believe it). On our way there, a lost looking lady asked us where the bible convention was... She had been given a tract and wanted to see what was what. It was impossible not to mention a few things to her... The disfellowshipping arrangement, 1914 vs 607 (she was a history teacher). But generally, we try not to "apolostalatize" too much... Even with her we felt like she was resisting what we were telling her a bit, and my husband treaded really lightly. Unfortunately, religion is just a difficult subject. Amazing how we were pioneers who used to ramrod it down people's throats - so far from that now.

No, they don't care... Unless of course you stop making your monthly contribution to the WWW.
I love how jw's are supposed to abstain from all career advancement and from education in general, being content with the necessities of life only, but in the same breath, we are told to give generously to "gods organization". For those jw's who have obeyed fully... The question is - give WHAT!?

Figures. My first post... And I'd manage a fail on my first attempt. :-) for some reason my iPad wouldn't bring up the keyboard, and instead of cancel, I fat-fingered and hit submit...
Anyway... Hello everyone. I figured this would be as good a time as any to stop lurking and actually say hi... This topic is near and dear to my heart because it started the big exit for me and my family. I don't want to give to many identifying details because it was a huge scandal in our area, but suffice it to say that our experience bore out the fact that higher education is NOT a family decision, and the FADS would rather axe an entire family for independent thinking... A years-loyal family with high ranking members... Than let the father who encouraged his kids (who pioneered their way through and never were looked at so much as cross-eyed by a judicial committee) get away with his independent thinking... Lest others see how it turned out for his kids (able to continue pioneering, move out and support themselves and buy a house, etc.) and follow their example.
Anyway... The good news is that we are all out... I started... Couldn't see that done to my father who had done nothing but serve the org and the fads his whole life... My husband started seeing major doctrinal issues ... My mom had been the faithful wife but had had issues with their ego-centrism and lack of love for years... My dad .... Well, he was the one who took the most time and patience. But we're all faded. Hubby's parents understand our position. His bro and sis have shunned us. But all things considered, we are a thousand times better off than most people here. I just wanted you all to know how much your words have been thought-provoking and helpful over the past two years as we have made our transition...
