i was browsing some older kms on the latest wt cd and noticed that each month there used to be a branch letter included.
this appeared to be a friendly, informal letter advising brothers of what was happening that month - all the interesting news from bethel etc.. then, seemingly without any warning, the bethel letters disappeared from the kms in december 1978. i wonder why?.
the letters seemed a very warm way for the brothers in bethel to communicate with the brothers 'out there' , it made them seem much more human and loving.
They're back.
Just check the September 2003 issue.

"When it comes to organized charity, though, we need to be cautious as we evaluate the many appeals we receive...So it is the course of wisdom to examine the facts carefully."I don't see this as a blanket condemnation of giving to charities other than JWs but only to make sure that if one decides to give to a charity that the money goes where it says it is intended to go.
I can only agree with this comment by Kenneson. Formerly there was an outright condemnation of any giving to charities, but this statement is a big step forward, liberating JWs to do what there conscience teaches them to do. Many I know did so anyway and thus welcome this further step towards a more liberal attitude. LL
the special talk, that usually follows the memorial spoke of "three lines of evidence" pointing to the last days beginning in 1914.. not one of these included the "gentile times" chronology being mentioned.
(talk on babylon the great's hour of judgement).
they're phasing it out, i guess.
metatron,
the three lines of evidence were from a 1997 Watchtower ...
hs,
horrifying news...

a friend of mine who is a jw told me last night that there is a special meeting today that she wanted to attend.
since her health in the last few months has prevented meeting attendance (other than the memorial) i wonder why she is so determined to make the meeting today, sunday april 27, 2003. could it just be a local thing?
do the jw do that or is every meeting in lock-step with all the meetings in the country if not the world?
"They repeated that the UN would turn on false religion."They didn't even hint to the UN in the outline, simply a refernce to the verse indicating Babylon's distrucction by th e10 horns and the wild beast was made. I don't know why any fool would mention the UN in tis context.
Enough uplifting scriptures in the outline to build faith in the creator's promises made in the Bible without using w or re or it references!

LL7. Do I have to return Watchtower Library 2001 to the congregation if I am disfellowshipped?
No, this only applies to elders who resign and return their copy of the Pay Attention book. You can keep your copy of Watchtower Library on CD. But you understand, that since you are no longer considered to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses, you may only use your CD again after the announcement of your reinstatement has been made to the congregation.
this is my first post on this board even though i have been lurking for a looong time.... .
i have just being told that the judicial committee has decided to disfellowship me and that i have a week to appeal if i decide to do so.
the reason: "apostasy".
APPEAL their decision
give them something to be occupied and to think twice before acting stupidly as they did
kind regards

when prime minister tony blair was 'summoned' to camp david a couple of day's ago, he looked succinctly uncomfortable when doing a press interview with president bush.
today, the prime minister faces the tuc conference, the main agenda covering the impending war on iraq.
british public opinion is very much for the action to not take place against iraq.
and I always thought 'Anglo-America' was an invention of the WTS
