  bit of background info..... we have a neighbour who is a complete psychopath, she has tried to get us evicted, turned neighbours against us, bad mouthed us to our visitors.. last year our dog who is a jack/staff and is very healthy started to go downhill.... lethergy, depression, vomiting bile, coughing.

  we took her to the vets who ran loads of tests on organ failure, cancer etc and they all came back clear.

  he repeatedly asked us if she could have eaten anything.

  Honing is cake. Stropping is harder (at least for me). Once you get a good strop done, you don't need to strop for a few weeks (depending on how much you shave, 2 or 3 times a week for me). If you have to strop every shave you need to strop better. I had my local barber who gives straigh razor shaves show me how. He strops every day, but then he uses his razor on customers 10 or 12 times a day.

  It took me a few months to learn how to strop properly. I was having to strop every shave until I had a pro show me how. I actually bought a few older razors from my barber and am restoring the blades and using them. I have gotten addicted to the straight razors. I went from owning one to owning three.

  I may get another one - mine is really big, but I do love it. How do you find the honeing? Is it difficult?

  Honing is easier than stropping. To hone, you just need a wetstone of at least 8000 grit. wet it, lay the razor flat (the curve of the raze when it lays flat provides the correct honing angle) and gently push it across the hone in a diagonal fashion. Flip it, repeat. I hone about once every two months, strop about every two weeks. to hone you push the shaving edge of the razor across the hone.

  I did learn (from experience) that stropping is best done if you hold the strop tight, move the razor quickly, put light pressure on the back edge of the blade as opposed to the shaving edge. And try not to cut your strop in half :). Stropping is done pulling the shaving edge away from the strop.

  Come to NC, we'll practice stropping and shave each other...
