  Looking around it is plain to see that something is going on that did not used to be. Strange weather events, wars so complex and numerous, famines and talk of more to come.

  When did any of these things "not used to be"? . . . and don't forget "Earthquakes" . . . we've had 7000 of them in 9 months.

  What Jesus was talking about was CONDITIONS on a GLOBAL scale, not locally.

  Really? . . . I don't recall that scripture.

  As I remember the story . . . the boy crying wolf got eaten

  Flipper is correct . . . many natural phenomena are cyclic . . . even random. When one considers that the last major super-volcano eruption occurred 1900 years ago and displaced more than 500 times the material Mt St Helens did . . . and spread it's ash around the entire globe . . . would not the end of the first century contain more features of this "sign"

  We have the technology to look deeper into space and at celestial bodies . . . and to make information instantly available . . . to a much larger audience . . . that's all that "did not use to be" . . . but I don't recall these things being part of any "sign"

  It is the hope of some, in every generation of man that has ever lived, to be "saved" from this big bad world . . . a peculiarly human trait . . . now that could be a "sign" of something?

  i finally resigned as an elder.

  my conscience wouldn't allow me to continue.

  i've battled for years trying to reconcile the fallacies of the wt society with my own personal beliefs.

  the precedent set here will mean a criminal record and a fine and/or other penalties for the legal caregiver of any jw minor who suffers injury or dies through not receiving blood.

  with over 200,000 witnesses in russia, this could become a regular occurrance.. any loss of life as a result of this misguided belief should indeed be punished or deterred by law.. but i just wonder .

  who will meet the cost for these ones?.

  I'd also be intrigued to know if blood would certainly have saved his life.

  It would appear from the case that this is not even considered. Refusal of a blood transfusion prior to death or injury will be prosecuted regardless. The charge is one of "placing a dependent in danger"

  Transexual starts a study...what happens next??

  so my mother was telling me that a transexual, don't know if she's pre or post op (nobody does apparently), has started attending meetings and started a bible study.. she answers up in meetings and has been attending a few weeks.

  apparently she looks very much like a woman but has a distinctive masculine voice.

  i asked my mother what will happen?

  In my first congregation in the early 80's a transgender study began attending meetings. After a few weeks she began to bring along her transgender girlfriend. It created the expected stir and shitloads of gossip . . . everybody had an opinion. I was working the sound at the back of the hall at the time and was constantly being asked which loo they were using. I said I wasn't into toilet watching, but the questions just kept coming.

  The larger lady was soon answering with well-packaged JW answers at the WT study. After about three months they dissappeared without trace. I suspect most TG's will eventually go the same way . . . it's just a matter of time (and not much either) before the bigotry and judging scares them away. Apparently the study conductor(sister) was asked by the Elders(big brave boys) to make clear the situation (whatever that was) . . . and that was that. JW's don't know how to deal with this . . . or at least they didn't back then.

  Oh . . . and just for the record . . . they used the ladies.

  Russian court sentences Jehovah’s Witness for resisting treatment of son

  Published: 02 February, 2011, 15:15 A Russian court has fined a woman for rejecting doctors’ advice to allow her five-year-old son to have a blood transfusion. Her decision resulted in the boy’s death in hospital. The verdict is the first such precedent in the country.

  The Church of Jehovah’s Witness strictly forbids blood transfusion believing it to be sinful, and doctors cannot carry out the procedure without a patient’s consent. Many parents who are Jehovah’s Witnesses will also not let their children undergo blood transfusions. In some cases a court may override parental rejection, but that is not possible in emergencies.
  
  Such was the case of Natalya Podlozhevich and her son in Russia’s Khanty-Mansi region in the Urals. In February 2010, the boy was taken to hospital in critical condition and required a blood transfusion. Natalya did not give her permission even after doctors explained that her refusal would put the child’s life in danger. Without proper treatment, the boy died two days later.
  
  The prosecutor’s office opened a case against the mother for leaving a dependent person in danger. On Wednesday, a city court found her guilty and she was ordered to pay a fine. It is the first sentence in such a case and it will set precedent for future trials, a spokesperson for the prosecution said.
  
  A similar case involving the death of a child of a Jehovah’s Witness is currently being investigated in Moscow.

  Microevolution vs Macroevolution (NOT an evolution vs creation debate)

  i've heard the distinction between microevolution and macroevolution a lot, especially from intelligent design arguments.

  microevolution being defined as changes or adaption within a species, and macroevolution being changes from one species to another.

  my impression is that there really is no such meaningfule distinction between macro and micro in the modern scientific sense of evolutionary theory.

  there really is no such meaningful distinction between macro and micro in the modern scientific sense of evolutionary theory. "macro" evolution is the result of small changes over time.

  Precisely . . . the only variable is time.

  Over great lengths of time, favorable micro-evolutionary changes become "bedded in" through changes in the selective environmental factors such as climate, food supply, competition etc. The adaptive changes that result in survival then become the "norm" from which further micro-evolutionary changes can occur. For a species to resort to the previous "norm" would need the whole raft of environmental factors that previously existed to be re-created, and even then survival cannot be assured unless it too proceeds gradually over time.

  A great fallacy held by detractors is that one species "changes" into another, as if crossing some magical boundary. New species simply emerge gradually as micro-evolutionary changes lead it further away from it's previous "norm" over a lengthy period. Current species almost never exist alongside the species from which they evolved. In effect they ARE the species from which they evolved.

  There is a good deal of mutual understanding on this thread. Without previous discussion or combined research, each poster has developed a very accurate understanding of the process which fits into a very similar definition. I feel that is significant.

  sizemik, your comments about pretending to not know what I do know remind me of some bad advice that a few people have given me when I have expressed doubts or concerns about faulty JW doctrines. They said, "Your just too smart. You think too much. You should just stop thinking about things and be glad to be part of such a wonderful organization. Maybe one day your concerns will be addressed. Just be patient." Is it just me or is that total garbage? JWs boast about their "logical" and "reasonable" approach to helping people learn the "truth." But if I apply logic and reason to a subject and come up with a different answer than what JWs teach - or find a glaring fault in the doctrine - then I'm using my brain too much? It doesn't make sense.

  Right on the mark Franklin. I had very similar sentiments expressed to me and was made to feel guilty about it. It's not just you . . . it IS total garbage and only serves certain vested interests.

  Millions . . . possibly Billions . . . would agree with us . . . To contend that God would give us such depth of thinking ability . . . and then ask us to "shut it down" so we can worship him in "truth" is totally ludicrous. Thinking ability is the precise mechanism he expects us to use to find truth and avoid being mislead by men.

  You're correct in your summary of Maze . . . our local JW apologist. It is widely believed that the same IP address has assumed about it's 6th or 7th identity here. There are some other weirdo's and trolls here . . . you'll come across them soon enough.

  I agree also with CoC's sentiments above . . . your handling of things reaffirms that well balanced thinking ability is something you possess. Again . . . all the best in the days ahead.

  thats what my pops told me after i was refuting false wt doctrine.

  "that even if im right about 1914 etc, that we need a support structure to get thru life..." hes older in years and their lives are surrounded by good jws.

  thats all they are is a social club for non-thinkers.

  many are young people that simply go through the motions until they can free themselves .

  others have relatives or family still trapped .
