Best news in a long time - manned mission to Mars planned
by tootired2care ini was reading this news article and it brings out that nasa is planning a manned mission to mars.
nasa plans to work with other countries on this mission, and not just go it alone.
it turns out that the obama administration has set a goal for nasa to have this done by the 2030s.

The space travel/world problems dichotomy is oversimplified and unfair. There are billions of dollars spent daily on questionable behaviour . . . military being just one example. Why pick on space exploration?
I hope it will be successful.
Me too . . . so much could be learned from this.

New light or did the speaker just pull this out his wazoo?
by pubtruth ini went to the last day of the dc here in west palm beach, just to make my mother company.
wow, what a difference can a year outside the lie can do to perception.
it was the same crap as you'd expect but there is a plot twist: the speaker was so into the talk he was actually starting to shout and wound up mentioning that they now know how many angels will be needed to destroy everyone at armaggeddon.

Heartwarming Story
by sizemik ina lot of buildings have been demolished here in chch, nz, after the quake 23 months ago .
over 1,000 in the cbd, and quite a few more to go.. the one pictured below is scheduled to be brought down with explosives next sunday at 8.00 am.
it's a first for new zealand, so the family will be up early to get a good vantage point.

It's a first for New Zealand, so the family will be up early to get a good vantage point. 63 kg of explosives will bring it down in 7.5 seconds apparently.
But here's the heartwarmer . . .
The privelege of "pushing the button" was auctioned off on-line, as a fundraiser for heritage building restoration. The auction closed at NZ$26,000 (about US$21,000) and was won by a group of 7 demolition companies working here in CHCH. They then gave the opportunity to the Child Cancer Foundation, which nominated 6 yr old Jayden Halliwell, who is being treated for kidney cancer to do the deed . . . nice huh?
The little guy was beaming at the prospect . . . what little boy wouldn't love that. His Mom said he'd remember it for the rest of his life . . . here's hoping it's a long and happy one. He's pictured in the article.
There's a lot of nice people out there . . .

I guess the grass is always greener...
True enough . . . but it's one hell of a big meadow . . . and the cliche doesn't cure my envy. Thinking about your statement . . . I don't think there is a time in history that I would prefer over this one . . . except the future.

wow I didn't know you could do that!
by Lady Lee inok right after i got back from the conference my desktop computer died an ugly death.
so i have been struggling on with my laptop which really isn't up to all the things i like to do at the same time.. so i bit the bullet and went out and bought another computer.
got a real deal because i didn't want their hard drive.

btw I think the onlky true way to get a decent computer is to build it yourself
I would concur with that. My 16 yr old built his from scratch . . . you could probably run the federal reserve with it now. Most componentry is easily interchangeable now, just plug and play . . . and the software seems to know what to do all by itself.
It's nice when everything comes together . . . no bugs.

It makes me envious. A few hundred years from now the early days of space exploration could be seen the way we see Columbus, while folks zip round the galaxy doing the big OE . . . or should that be OSE? Lucky buggers.

Great vids . . . thanks.
I like the way this guy keeps the issues outside of a religious context and simply dealt with their secular social responsibility.
There is no religious issue . . . just a systemic failure to protect the innocent. Candace's violations were 100% preventable . . . and a direct result of their abysmal failures in this respect. You can't spin it any other way.
