  JYD . . . you and I have clashed over your relationship with your father before . . .

  I know the WTS has caused a lot of hurt and damage to you personally . . . it does that to us all . . . believe me.

  But those still in the cult . . . are usually victims of mind control . . . not the perpetrators of it.

  You can use the same arguments . . . just use one at a time . . . and don't give up till you get a sound reasonable answer . . . you can never win an argument with them . . . but you can plant a seed of doubt.

  If your Dad left the cult because of your efforts . . . would that not be a victory?

  Instead of putting your Dad down . . . try to get him out . . . think about it anyway . . .

  Pakistani christian woman sentenced to death

  there was a report on the tv last night about a pakistani christian woman sentenced to death.

  for blaspheming the prophet ( mohamed i suppose).. she was working in the fields with two muslims.

  it was hot and she had a drink of water.. she offered some to the two muslims but they would not drink from the same cup as a christian.

  If you're going to come here as a JW apologist, then discuss the issues raised. Don't jump on every thread you find . . . take it off topic . . . and then preach a sermon to a Forum made up of people who have "been there done that".

  Your sermon covers nothing that has not been trolley'd out here hundreds of times before and that the people here have already been bored with for 20, 30, 40 years or more. So . . . discuss the topic . . . or shut the fuck up!

  It comes across as childish and moronic . . . and if you keep it up . . . you won't be here for long . . . believe me.

  Thanks for the post . . . the sentencing to death of this Pakistani woman is yet another example of religious extremism that seems to be the chief cornerstone of everything that plagues this planet. I tend to agree, having been a victim of it myself . . . that the JW's represent an example of similar religious intolerance albeit from a "Christian" perspective in their attitude to those of other faiths.

  There are a concerning number of Fundamentalist Christian cult-like movements in the "free" world believing thiers is the only true God and that thiers is the only true religion . . . as the more extreme forms of Islam do.

  Numbers aside . . . they simply mirror the religious intolerence we so often identify with Muslim extremism and so place themselves in the same category IMO

  as someone who has learned to dismiss the Bible as the words of men instead of God.

  This is my current feeling also . . .

  My avid interest in the subject and PC's program, is more the product of seeing Fundamentalist Christian dogma being used as a heavy club to beat minorities with and destroy the lives of good, honorable and innocent people in the process. Such dogma has been used to justify the suppression and slavery of darker races as we all well know. I'm beginning to see little difference here.

  As PC and his guest highlighted . . . the scriptures are being held up to scrutiny like never before. This is healthy, in that the sting of their prejudice can be mitigated by the more accurate understanding of scripture . . . whether "the word of God" or not.

  Their Bible-based dogma is their "weapon of choice" when it comes to misguided prejudice. They may well be shooting blanks however. Increased awareness may in time "disarm" them completely. I feel PC is on a worthwhile persuit in this respect.

  the subsequent shunning and alienation of family and friends.

  That happened after a couple of months of being inactive anyway in our case . . . and as far as I know there has never been an announcement . . . maybe we weren't important enough.

  But I concede your point DofC . . . that was 7 years ago . . . times probably have changed.

  This thread raises an interesting issue . .

  There is too much religious freedom

  I'm normally an advocate of personal freedom . . . but in this case I believe the above to be true.

  We have laws and legislative bodies who demand we wear a seat belt in our car . . . to put on hard hats, protective equipment in the workplace . . . Govt sponsored campaigns on the dangers of cigarette smoking . . . and on and on it goes.

  All these provisions are to "protect" the citizens from harm . . .

  And yet we have religious cults with highly developed mind-controlling tactics preying on vulnerable citizens, and causing a hell of a lot more harm than a stubbed toe or a bang on the head (OK I'm being cynical).

  But surely it's a valid concern . . . these groups hide behind the holy grail of religious freedom only to inflict untold harm on our "citizens"

  When citizens are unsuspectingly exposed to harm . . . we are normally quick to protect them from it in order to protect their "freedom". Why is patently harmful religion exempt?
