If I absolutely HAD to be part of any religion, beleive it or not, I would become Catholic. Mostly for the tradition, the mysticism and the gorgeous buildings but also because they don't BS about the problems that they have by trying to cover it up and they don't bother trying to brand themselves as the truth, yet they manage to have the most members. But as an Atheist, I am happy not attending church.

WatchtowerÂ’s Sexual Subliminal?
by Marvin Shilmer inwatchtowers sexual subliminal?
today i uploaded a new article to my blog.
it addresses one of the cleverest subliminal image sets ive seen in a long time, and perhaps the best of all amongst watchtower publications.

This is one of the teachings of the Gnostics (as in: Early Christians). They believed according to the Gospel of Judas that he was in fact the closest disciple to Jesus. In the gospel according to Judas (there are something like 30 gospels that were left out of the bible) he was priveleged enough to recieve secret information about the details of heaven. In the gospel, Jesus TOLD him to go to the Romans so that Jesus could fulfill his destiny. When the Disciples sat down to the last supper, Jesus told him to go do what he had to do, and he DID. He was actually a huge part in the passion and a hero amongst the Gnostics. Its so sad that Judas was the basis for so much anti-semitism in history.

JW directives you thought were downright stupid
by fallen_princess ini remember one time when i was about 17 years old, i wanted to arrange a costume party for the young brothers in the congo around my age.
i suggested it to one of my friends and was told that the elders had advised against it because it could be construed as pagan and masks have their roots in demonism.
of course, i was never shown any biblical proof of this but just that response took the wind out of my sails and i decided to just not go through with it.

ooohh! I just rememebered another one! Back when Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" had gained popularity, our CO had advised the congregation that they should really examine the movies their kids were watching beause they might seem innocent, but underneath all those movies had to do with witches casting spells making inanimate objects move and talk. My mom was a hairsbreath away from throwing away all my VHS tapes which included titles like Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White because of their demonic content. I remember that some brothers took it farther than that by saying that we shouldn't watch movies with talking animals because animals don't talk in real life unless by posession of the Devil like in the Adam and Eve story. Disney's "The Jungle Book" took the rap for that one too because of the talking snake that hypnotizes the main character.

Hi All!
I was thinking about all the things I missed out on growing up as a JW. Many of those things I will never be able to do anyway, like join in any extracurriular activities or go to senior prom. But one of the first things I did when I got out if the Borg was join a ballroom dance class and go to a nightclub with some of the students in the class. It was a great experience to go to a club for the first time. Before I got married my perents would have never even dreamed about letting me go out anywhere even after I had turned 21. But at the same time I felt a little out of place being there and I don't go anymore because my husband doesn't dance and I feel weird not having him come with me. Now, I prefer staying home with him instead of going out with other people. it was not long at all before I got the clubbing thing out of my system; something in the neighborhood of probably five outings total! (lame, I know) I was wondering though, what was the first thing you guys did after you got out?

I never heard the red shoes one, but in one congregation I visited I rememeber strappy high heel sandals were frowned upon because they were too sexy. I think most of the elders are just sexually repressed and since they dont get any at home its easier for them to not implode if the sisters at the hall dress in frumpy outdated clothing.

Watchtower, 2014 and Crooklyn properties
by Alfred inas we approach 2014, the wt appears to be gearing up for what could potentially be the biggest turning point in their 135-year history.
this new york times article talks about a "complicated formula" involving at least two wt properties slated for eventual residential "re-zoning" which will generate significant property tax revenue needed for the brooklyn park project.... http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/02/nyregion/housing-deal-for-brooklyn-bridge-park-ensures-parks-completion.html?_r=1.
if anyone comes across any details of this "complicated formula", please do share.... it appears that 2014 will be a very interesting year....

man! it seems like all the men on this forum are sounding off about the beard issue. my hubby is growing a beard now after we faded. it seems like all the men that leave grow beards as a last "screw you" to the WTS! Too Funny!
