We got a sheperding call right at the beginning of our fade. Its ususally pretty painless and most times if the elders dont know you too personally wont try to delve too much into your personal life. Just tell them what they want to hear and dont attend the meetings afterwards.

As many people have already recomended; Crisis of Concience is a good book to help you ease the guilt that comes with the indoctrination you have been subjected to. It helps you see pas the front that is all you've ever known. You will also find a lot of help and good people on this site and others like it. but your best weapon is Knowledge! If I absolutely HAD to be part of any religion, beleive it or not, I would become Catholic. Mostly for the tradition, the mysticism and the gorgeous buildings but also because they don't BS about the problems that they have by trying to cover it up and they don't bother trying to brand themselves as the truth, yet they manage to have the most members. But as an Atheist, I am happy not attending church.

This is one of the teachings of the Gnostics (as in: Early Christians). They believed according to the Gospel of Judas that he was in fact the closest disciple to Jesus. In the gospel according to Judas (there are something like 30 gospels that were left out of the bible) he was priveleged enough to recieve secret information about the details of heaven. In the gospel, Jesus TOLD him to go to the Romans so that Jesus could fulfill his destiny. When the Disciples sat down to the last supper, Jesus told him to go do what he had to do, and he DID. He was actually a huge part in the passion and a hero amongst the Gnostics. Its so sad that Judas was the basis for so much anti-semitism in history.

JW directives you thought were downright stupid
by fallen_princess ini remember one time when i was about 17 years old, i wanted to arrange a costume party for the young brothers in the congo around my age.
i suggested it to one of my friends and was told that the elders had advised against it because it could be construed as pagan and masks have their roots in demonism.
of course, i was never shown any biblical proof of this but just that response took the wind out of my sails and i decided to just not go through with it.

ooohh! I just rememebered another one! Back when Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" had gained popularity, our CO had advised the congregation that they should really examine the movies their kids were watching beause they might seem innocent, but underneath all those movies had to do with witches casting spells making inanimate objects move and talk. My mom was a hairsbreath away from throwing away all my VHS tapes which included titles like Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White because of their demonic content. I remember that some brothers took it farther than that by saying that we shouldn't watch movies with talking animals because animals don't talk in real life unless by posession of the Devil like in the Adam and Eve story. Disney's "The Jungle Book" took the rap for that one too because of the talking snake that hypnotizes the main character.
