Re-introducing myself. :)
by Sunchild ini haven't posted here in ages, so i doubt anyone remembers me.
in any case, my name is rochelle, and i used to be a witness.
i started studying with them at age 17, got baptized at 18, and left at 24 or 25 for a lot of reasons.

A Friend just died
by AK - Jeff inone of the local elders - whom i loved dearly when we were in - just died.
funny how when you get out of this organization your attitude in life completely reverses, huh?
a year and half ago, just before starting the 'fade', i actually took my vacation days in order to attend the sunday meetings (i work a weekend shift now).

My condolences. It is hard when we loose someone close to us. When you think about it he died to you when he started shunning you.

What would you say to a JW at your door?
by Undecided in.
i will say:i don't need the watchtower magazine because i already know what it says: since i'm an apostate, wicked slave class worldly person and don't beleive the new light from the governing body of the faithful and discrete slave class, i will be buzzard meat at armageddon very soon now, unless there is more new light about it not being as soon as predicted, like so many times before.

We moved here to LV last year and haven't seen any. Well actually my daughter answered the door and they asked if her parents allowed her to pick her own reading material. (She is 16) She said oh no my parents don't let me pick my own reading material, they would be very upset if I took these magazines from you. She told me about it later I would love to debate with them so I said why didn't you take the stuff so they would have returned. Oh well maybe next time. We live in a gated community so I don't think they come through very often.

The Rapture
by homme perdu in1859 british minister john nelson darby begins preaching in america.
he would create an ingenious theology known as premillennial dispensationalism, which remains the dominant eschatological system in christianity today.
"dispensationalism" refers to darby's belief that human history can be divided into a series of epochs, or dispensations, in which god has dealt with humanity in different ways.

I would have to say that the origin of this teaching would be Jesus Christ our Lord. The first person who preached about it would be the apostle Paul. I Thess 4:15-18

A "first-timers" ponderings...
by upside/down ini accidentally posted this improplerly so i'll try again.... i'm a "first-timer"- so please be gentle ( or at least use lube).
can we try and look at the bible's message without any preconcieved notions that we've been fed?
read it as if we've been lost on a desert island our whole life- what would we come away with?

Welcome to the Forum. I agree with you. I think that we tend to get too caught up in various doctrines and forget what his message was really about. 1. Love your neighbor as yourself. 2. Love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul. All the rest is well...speculation. In Romans 14 he said not to judge your brother regarding what he eats or drinks or regarding a day. IF you think a day is special and are convinced you want to worship God on that day, do it. But don't force it on your brother/sister. If you think pork is wrong, then don't eat it. If it bothers your brother that you are eating pork, be loving and don't eat it in front of him. I go to Non-denominational church. It suits me. I go when I feel like it. Not every Sunday. I do read the bible and when I left I spent quite sometime just reading it without pre-conceived notions. That is what helped me to know the the JW's were OH SO WRONG.

2004 Service Report - Analysis and trends for 2005
by truthseeker inby now, most of you will have seen the scanned images of the watchtower's service report for 2004. i do not have the feb 1st magazines, so i cannot speculate further on the reason for not issuing the report in the january 1st 2005 wt.
looking at the figures, there are some trends that should be considered very disturbing to the wt leadership.
although baptisms increased marginally by 3,571, the difference between the average number of publishers and the number of baptisms is eye-popping indeed.

I think they will stop printing this number crap soon. It makes them look bad. It was fine when they were prospering, but anyone with half a brain can do the math. Unfortunately those who are in will read whatever they say and will not do the math themselves. They will tell them the reason for the lack of growth is because the end is so near and Jehovah is allowing enough time for the last few to trickle in. Which is why we must preach ever harder so the end can come!!!!

What happens when you die??
by mysterio91 init's been over a year now since my dad died.
i feel sad about it a lot because i don't believe i will never see him again.
i realised today that being raised a dub has closed my eyes to different views on death.. what do some of you believe happens after death??

I believe that there is a resurrection. I think we will go to heaven. The bible talks about Abraham looking forward to his heavenly reward etc. Jesus said that you will be with him and I'm pretty sure he is in heaven. I'm not sure if we go when we die or when we die we go somewhere and wait for the resurrection. The parable about the one guy going to a fiery place and the good guy going to the pleasant place where the was a chasm between them so that one could not go to the other. Makes me want to think it is the latter.

Don't get depressed. Your life is about to change. Or rather your mindset. Although it is rather unsettling to realize you don't have "THE TRUTH" It is OK. The simple truth is that Jesus died for you and all you have to do is accept him as your savior and he forgives you and accepts you as one of his own. That's it! It is a free gift. Get busy and read your bible, you will realize that they were wrong about a lot of things. It is an uneasy feeling at first, thinking you have all the answers and then realizing you have nothing but questions. It is an exciting journey. I am glad I took it, at first I was very upset and unsettled and mad. You will survive!
