I didn't read the article but I have read various of his books. As I did skim the article I know the argument much longer more complicated and far more substantiated that it (perhaps) was in the article. He does use several outside, Roman sources that mention things such as " a man that caused trouble amongst the jews" or "the man they follow which they call Cristus". Stuff like that.
As for only using the bible. That is not a problem from his view point. He does not see the bible as one book or the Inspired scriptures of God. He sees the New testament scriptures as mostly, apart from the synoptic Gospels, as independent accounts of the man, Jesus of Nazareth. To him all, accounts of Jesus are historical documents and he studies them as such. And through cross referencing many, many accounts of Jesus he comes to the lowest common denominator in the all hoo-haa: A preacher/prophet whom denounces the rigidity of his religious leaders and preaches a coming Judgement. He is an apocolyptic Prophet. And since this was one of the major flavors of Judaesim of the time, as Erhman argues, its not at all far fetched to believe in the this man Jehoshua.

I never expected to be in academia; it's quite difficult, but it is the dream. These "many career paths" are intruiging to me. Please do share, I really need employment. Also, thanks about the tip about the law firms. I was thinking just yesterday to start looking for work in that area, especially since I live in a very hispanic neighborhood I was thinking that someone must surley need translations, interpretations, or something along those lines.

When I think about it, my degree in English I'm sometimes deflated by the very limited job opportunities I have in the extremely saturated and extremely feeble job market. It's very impracticle. I ain't got no job! But earning my degree taught me how to read and gave me the capacity for critical analysis. After this I understood what the Watchtower really taught. I'm quite glad...sometimes.
Oh, and thank you, TOTH

Troy Barnes should be Disfellowshipped
by I Want to Believe inanyone else watch community?
i love the show, and it just happens to have the only openly jw lead character in the history of tv.
but whenever they'd bring up that troy was a jw i'd cringe a little, back then because how easily he would go against those beliefs and now because of how innocent they make it out to be.

One of my favorite shows. But since he's "Jehovah's Most Secret Witness I don't think the congregations would ever find out about his shenanigans. Also, I doubt he's baptized. I'm sure he was just raised as a WI\itness, and as such and identifies himself as a witness because of his beliefs; but like most JW teens doesn't give two ***** about his spirituality. He faded before even baptizing. And associating with a muslim!?!?! Surley I was the only baptized JW to ever do such a thing!

As an ex near witness I have a voracious capacity for reading
by Star tiger insince nearly being consumed by witness mentality as an almost baptised member but thankfully due to my fantastic wifes scepticism toward it, i have now embarked on a voracious capacity for reading all the books that were once excluded from my list to get a total rounded out experience of life from the communist manifesto to atlas shrugged, wealth of nations, the age of reason, robert anton wilson, the koran and dare i say it mein kamf, the vedas, but i am still a bit frightened of the golden bough due to the residue of the jw's.
all knowledge must be good, i've read the bible and but it seem a bit meh!, all books have some interesting points, except the nazi one but it's good to read anything you can!.
anybody else obssesed with reading!!.
