  Hello everyone,

  great point, great discussion,

  including the bit about " offering " old literature.

  That's too obvious! Furthermore, here in Western Europe

  they are encouraging to go out and use only the Bible,

  actually having it ready ..! Magazines and brochures

  kept in inside pockets,( for brothers) so to avoid the

  impression that many of you have observed:

  " We are only there for the literature";;;!

  Nothing, about the truth from - God's word only - !!!

  I'll keep you informed.

  1934 German letter

  i've been looking at this letter for some time.. and researching it's origins.. i can't find anything conclusive, really.

  i can't locate a denial of its existance from the society, but i haven't got access to any literature anymore, having left it all behind when i moved country to america from england.

  so...is there any reference to it in, for example, the proclaimers book?.

  'Order of Special Full-Time Servants'?????

  even to witnesses the title given to bethelites is surprising!.

  *** yb99 27 highlights of the past year ***.

  at present, 17,781 in bethel families around the earth render service as members of the order of special full-time servants.. most would think the wts was free of religious 'orders' and the like.

  thanks for fishing this one out again.

  As Metatron, clearly stated:

  "..of course, the "order" is just a legal tactic to
  avoid various laws and regulations since they are
  volunteers, not paid employees."

  this is the main reason in Europe. But it looks like

  that it is not sufficient for countries such as

  Sweden, Belgium, Austria , Germany and France

  (among others).

  This was reported in a speech - posted by Kent -

  and a rather long one by the WTBS attorney to

  the House of Representatives of the U.S.A., I do

  believe in 1999. It's worth reading all of it and

  keep it on the file. Terms like religious order,

  special religious order, monastic etc.

  are used by the WTBS' attorney whose bame

  is...Philip Brumley. The presentation includes

  facts unknown to the vast % of the JW's in Europe

  and I think also in the U.S.A.-

  Baptismal Questions - why the change?

  i was baptized on march 17, 1974. on that day, i answered "yes" to both of the following questions.... 1 have you repented of your sins and turned around, recognizing yourself before jehovah god as a condemned sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation precedes from him, the father, through his son jesus christ?.

  2 on the basis of this faith in god and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to god to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through jesus christ and through the bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?

  just in case any lurkers here may be in doubt about the criticisms made of the witnesses' idolizing of an organisation, here is a selection of their claims, in their own words:.

  "he [god] does not impart his holy spirit and an understanding and appreciation of his word apart from his visible organisation.

  " (the watchtower, july 1, 1965, page 391).

  First time researching the WT organisation

  i've not researched the organisation before in any true level of detail.. i left it about eight months back, after coming to my own conclusions regarding the accuracy of lots of things it has released.

  i simply believed that it was no longer printing anything worthwhile, really.

  it had contradicted itself too many times.. i was brought up in the religion, and was baptised at 14, and afterwards stayed in it for three years.

  As you are keen on research about the Watchtower

  Bible and Tract Society (WTBS), remember always

  what they claim to be:

  fro: the book - Theocratic Ministry Guidebook -

  published in 1971 revised in 1992, chapter 21,

  page 110, § 9 "...Accuracy of statement.

  Jehovah's witnesses are an organisation of truth. "

  This part it is only the beginning of the §,

  please read the rest, and use it always.

  You have alraedy received many suggestions,

  and I would like to repeat the one about the

  book : " Jehovah's witnesses in the divine

  purpose" published by the WTBS in 1958.

  It will surprise you.

  N° 1 *** w94 2/1 5-6 Agents of Evil ***
  The account continues at Genesis 6:4: “The Nephilim proved to be in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of the true God continued to have relations with the daughters of men and they bore sons to them, they were the mighty ones who were of old, the men of fame.” These hybrid sons born to women and fathered by angels were abnormally strong, “mighty ones.” They were men of violence, or Nephi·lim', a Hebrew word that means “those who cause others to fall down.”
  It is noteworthy that these events later found expression in the legends of ancient civilizations. For example, a 4,000-year-old Babylonian epic describes the superhuman exploits of Gilgamesh, a mighty, violent demigod whose “lust [left] no virgin to her lover.” Another example, from Greek legend, is the superhuman Hercules (or Heracles). Born to Alcmene, a human, and fathered by the god Zeus, Hercules set out on a series of violent adventures after killing his wife and children in a fit of madness. Although such tales were greatly distorted as they passed from generation to generation, they tie in with what the Bible says about the Nephilim and their rebellious angelic fathers.

  Increased Wickedness. “The mighty ones who were of old, the men of fame” that were produced by these marriages, were not men of fame with God, for they did not survive the Flood, as did Noah and his family. They were “Nephilim,” bullies, tyrants, who no doubt helped to make conditions worse. Their angelic fathers, knowing the construction of the human body and being able to materialize, were not creating life, but lived in these human bodies and, cohabiting with women, brought forth children. Their children, “mighty ones,” were therefore unauthorized hybrids. Apparently the Nephilim did not, in turn, have children.
  In Mythology. The fame and dread of the Nephilim, it appears, gave rise to many mythologies of heathen people who, after the confusion of languages at Babel, were scattered throughout the earth. Though the historical forms of the Genesis account were greatly distorted and embellished, there was a remarkable resemblance in these ancient mythologies (those of the Greeks being only one example), in which gods and goddesses mated with humans to produce superhuman heroes and fearful demigods having god-man characteristics.—See GREECE, GREEKS (Greek Religion).

  There is evidence of Babylonian influence on Greek religion. One ancient Greek fable is nearly a literal translation of an Akkadian original.
  Another poet, Hesiod, probably of the eighth century B.C.E., is credited with systematizing the multitude of Greek myths and legends. Together with the Homeric poems, Hesiod’s Theogony formed the principal sacred writings, or theology, of the Greeks.
  In considering the Greek myths, it is of interest to see how the Bible sheds light on their possible or even probable origin. As Genesis 6:1-13 shows, prior to the Flood, angelic sons of God came to earth, evidently materializing in human form, and cohabited with attractive women. They produced offspring who were called Nephilim, or Fellers, that is, “those who cause others to fall down.” The result of this unnatural union of spirit creatures with humans, and the hybrid race it produced, was an earth filled with immorality and violence. (Compare Jude 6; 1Pe 3:19, 20; 2Pe 2:4, 5; see NEPHILIM.) Like others of the post-Flood times, Javan, the progenitor of the Greek people, undoubtedly heard the account of pre-Flood times and circumstances, likely from his father Japheth, a survivor of the Flood. Note, now, what the writings attributed to Homer and Hesiod reveal.
  The numerous gods and goddesses they described had human form and great beauty, though often being gigantic and superhuman. They ate, drank, slept, had sexual intercourse among themselves or even with humans, lived as families, quarreled and fought, seduced and raped. Though supposedly holy and immortal, they were capable of any type of deceit and crime. They could move among mankind either visibly or invisibly. Later Greek writers and philosophers sought to purge the accounts of Homer and Hesiod of some of the more vile acts attributed to the gods.
  These accounts may reflect, although in greatly expanded, embellished, and distorted form, the authentic account of pre-Flood conditions found in Genesis. A further remarkable correspondency is that, in addition to the principal gods, the Greek legends describe demigods or heroes who were of both divine and human descent. These demigods were of superhuman strength but were mortal (Hercules being the only one of them granted the privilege of attaining immortality). The demigods thus bear a marked similarity to the Nephilim in the Genesis account."

  II- 1940’s J.F. Rutherford’s teaching

  ** The book “Religion”
  published by the WTBS,Inc., the IBSA, Brooklyn New York,
  USA in the year 1940, by J.F. Rutherford on page 24
  sub-heading - Existence of Demons - gives this view:

  “...Modern-day relious leaders claim that the Nephilim were all
  festroyed at the time of the flood, and hence by thus teaching
  they lure the people in to the trap of the Devil”

  then this part – still on page 24:

  “...All scriptures bearing upon the point show bejond any
  question of doubt that the demons, otherwise designated by
  the Scriptures as “Nephilim” (Genesis 6:4, Revised Version),
  were not destroyed at the time of the flood , but continued their
  operations after the flood and are operating with the Devil even
  to this very day. “

  then comes this – gem - :

  “...To avoid confusion it must be clearly observed thet the “Nephilim”,
  or wicked demon giants, and “ the spirits in prison” to which Jesus
  preached (1 Peter 3:19,20) are entirely separate and distinct from
  each other.

  and also, this other beautiful – gem – (pages 224 and 25):

  “ The Devil and the Nephilim deceived the spiritual creatures desi-
  gnated “the sons of God” and induced them to materialize as men
  and take human for wives, and to raise an offspring by such union,
  and all of such offspring were destroyed in the flood.(See The Watchtower
  1934, pages 263-266). Those “ sons of God”,;who materialize asd
  humans, were imprisoned by the Devil at the time of the flood.-
  See proof , The Watchtower , 1934, page 275).

  As a conclusion read this , on page 25 :

  “..As to the Nephilim , the wicked spirit creatures or demons that
  joined Lucifer in his rebellion, they survived the flood and are yet
  alive, and are the ones that , together with the Devil, now exercise
  power and control over the people and the nations on the earth.”

  Well I hope that this ...kind of teaching, compared

  with today's WTBS version one doesn’t need

  ..any further comments.
