  this is my first post.

  i was a witness from 1971- 1976.even though i was able to get out with no trouble (i moved to another town), i have always believed that it was the "truth".

  a few months ago, i started viewing jw sites on the internet.

  The fastest way to get an "accurate " answer to your question,
  with plenty of "proofs" would be to go the the "Freemind"
  web link, shown on the bottom page. Then search for the
  Greek scriptures - new testament - and God's name.
  You'll find plenty of material.

  " RICHES " by J.F. Rutherford (publishers WTBS in 1936)

  show ...where the WTBS ...got
  the idea of the “governing body”.

  Let’s start with page 80:
  " The Roman Catholic Hierarchy , the governing body, together with the clergy of the other denominations, claims to be the representatives of God and the ones to whom the right is delegated to proclaim his Word."

  "…The Roman Catholic Hierarchy , that governing religious-political body , has misled and greatly deceive millions of honest persons."

  Then let’s see pages 228-229:
  "The Roman Catholic Hierarchy is defined in its own pubblications as follows :" The Catholic Hierarchy, or the governing body of the Catholic Church, consists of His Holiness the Supreme Pontiff, assisted by the SacredCollege of Cardinals and by several Sacred Congregations, or permanent ecclesiastical committee,of which the Cardinals are the chief members; by the Patriarchs, Archibishops and Bishops; by the ApostolicNuncios and Delegates, Vicars and Prefects, and by certain Abbots and other Prelates."

  YET, a few years later – as the following watchtower article states, what a change!!!

  This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses... Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record.

  21 In 1918, when Jesus Christ inspected those claiming to be his slaves, he found an international group of Christians publishing Bible truths for use both inside the congregation and outside in the preaching work. In 1919 it truly turned out to be as Christ had foretold: “Happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so. Truly I say to you, He will appoint him over all his belongings.” (Matthew 24:46, 47) These true Christians entered into the joy of their Master. Having shown themselves “faithful over a few things,” they were appointed by the Master to be “over many things.” (Matthew 25:21) The faithful slave and its Governing Body were in place, ready for a widened assignment.”

  But, never mind they are modest....

  w.1.06.1997 p.14--“Modesty on the part of the faithful and discreet slave class prevents it from presumptuously running ahead and wildly speculating about things that are unclear. The slave class strives to avoid being dogmatic. How reassuring it is to know that the channel Jehovah is using today does not do so! It is both faithful and discreet. "

  I do hope that most of you will find this interesting, although
  I do believe that 99% of the R&F, don’t know anything about this
  matter...like many other things.

  Page 246:
  " If anyone dared to express his opinion contrary to the doctrines taught by the clergy of the Roman Catholic organization, that one was straightaway charged with heresy. Early in the eleventh century many persons charged with heresy because they dared hold or expressan opinion contrary to the Roman Catholic or-ganization were executed by burning or strangling."

  and also page 247 :
  " Two features of the Inquisition stand out prominently,to wit: Prosecution for speech, and suppression and destruction of books. The manifest purpose of such presecution and the destruction of books was and isto keep the people in ignorance and to hide from them the frauds of the Roman Catholic organization."

  By the way ...who has a similar attitude today??

  $300 deficit in the KH of Rowland Heights, CA

  last night, besides announcing someone was disf.

  and attacks on the catholic church's doctrines, they gave the april report of finances..... their expenses $900 and some... the collections were $500 and some, and they sent $300 and some to wt... they have a $300 some deficit.

  they have to pay $12 at the bank; i was wondering if they have bounced a check :-) so.... they have in their pocket $500 and some... they asked to be generous on last night's donations.. there were only few people, half of when i last went three years ago.. circumstances brought me there to be with my daughter last night.. after the meeting, one of the speakers approached me to ask my opinion about a video they were all commenting.... i told him, "why do you want the opinion of a 'worldly person'?

  concerning " contributions " that everywhere it is the same.

  Bluesapphire: "they refuse to give that congregation the "food" that it needs unless they pay up. That's really bad. Especially considering that they DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help their members."

  You have stated a true fact, but please allow me a small
  amendment : not " they refuse " but rather "they withhold"
  ...it sound more like "WTBS legal department terminology".

  JW catches "smear pedo catholic priests&qu...

  i'm in need of advice:.

  today a jw wrote an article in a norwegain newspaper about the pedofile catholic priests scandal in the us these days.

  obviously, he enjoyed smearing them and argumented that the institution of celibacy was the root to the evil doings.. but, this jw is not personally very active - and he didn't mention anything jw-related in his article at all.

  thanks for the tremendous effort and time you
  are giving to this issue. Excellent points from the BOE
  letters. The " Society" is trying to undo some of the damage,
  adding to the hypocrisy..now is quite too late considering
  the great number of victims, and the wider publicity this issue
  it's getting. Thanks you very much for keeping all us informed
  and helping to " unveil " such terrible and shocking attitude from
  the WTBS.

  The great pubblicity given to similar issue with "other religions"
  and the astronomic "compensations" fees demandes for such cases
  are making the WTBS running for cover..!

  Btw, do not worry about comment like that one from " silentcrap".

  The name itself it is a programm in itself.

  notice the form of "alternative service" that he would've been required to do had he been drafted.

  not civilian, but as one who would work in a military hospital ... which would be aiding the war effort -- a breach of one's neutrality.. .

  way...just to argue, discuss or explain your viwpoint?

  ex. "Of course you've never had the balls to shoulder the responsibilities that the Governing Body has accepted with pleasure, so nobody should expect you to really understand. I've seen you make a fool out of yourself so many times on this board that it's pathetic."

  No amount of verbal abuse, or similar kind of things will be

  book " Enemies"...as I do not have access to any copies of it.
  According to comments, it is considered the " strongest "
  worded book, by the late J.F. Rutherford...very strong and
  poisonous attacks on the Catholic Hierarchy in general.

  Btw, I have seen the 1928 edition of the "Harp of God " and
  can confirm the modification.
  "Conclusive Proof that Millions Now Living Will Never Die"
  has gone and only the words: " A text-book for Bible study...
  and Scripture citations."

  Then it is mentioned 3,960,000 edition
  Copyrighted 1921 by the Peoples Pulpit Association
  Brooklyn, N.Y., U.S.A.
  Made in the U.S.A. 1928

  The Preface , I do believe is with the same words.
  I cannot finf in this edition the words: ""the Harmony of the Ten Primary Bible Teachings".
  At the end of page 20 it is written: " The ten strings of the harp
  therefore, very fitly represent the ten great fundamental truths or
  doctrines of the divine plan."
  It states :" 1) CREATION ....10) RESTORATION
