  tips for effective and painless interacting with aussies: .

  1) don't offer to buy an australian a drink .

  he will want to be your friend.. 2) don't talk about sport or you won't want to be his friend and you have to fly home in a week anyway.. 3) don't start a fight in a pub and expect the aussies to help.

  construction work on a major new zealand highway has been delayed following warnings about a mythical river monster.

  work on one section of the new highway ground to a halt when a local maori tribe warned of a swamp creature said to be living in the path of the new road.

  Hey Aussies, Is Peter Brock a Dub?

  i just saw on the 6.00 o'clock news that peter brock is racing in bathurst this weekend.

  i had heard ages ago that he had become a dub.

  surely the wts would 'tut 'tut at him engaging in such a "dangerous worldly activity" as motor racing?

  I voted for the first time

  well actually it was about two weeks ago now, but i was just talking with another x-jw friend yesterday who commented how significant it was for her.

  i'm not particularly political, i don't have strong opinions on politics, but it was pretty cool being free to do something that i had always been taught to believe was a terrible sin.. you see here in new zealand there was a general election held on july 27. all my life i have been in the borg and subsequently never voted, it wasn't allowed.

  voting would have made me "part of satan's system of things" and all that.. so for the month or so leading up to the election i paid extra attention to the political situation in the country and made a decision and when the day came, i made my way to the polling place (the local high school hall) and voted.. just thought i'd share that with you all.

  My Story

  i guess it's time for me to tell my story on this forum.

  my parents came into contact with the "truth" during their engagement and so i was born into a borg family and quickly "assimilated.

  " the congregation i grew up in however had very liberal views on many subjects, such as higher education, secular careers, and the like.

  What is Faith?

  when i was a 'dub, i beleived that faith was the hebrews 11 thing, but since i have put aside that way of thinking and no longer believe god or believe the bible to be anything more than a collection of human history and philosophy, i tend to think in terms of faith being no more than the dictionary definition: .

  1 a : allegiance to duty or a person : loyalty b (1) : fidelity to one's promises (2) : sincerity of intentions.

  2 a (1) : belief and trust in and loyalty to god (2) : belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust.
