I agree with hellenback, growing up a JW certainly helped with my public speaking skills, which are a MUST in my job. Also I stayed away from drugs and smoking when I was a child. I always try to view the positive side of negative experiences, and that's all I can think of.

Positives of Growing Up JW
by Pig ini dont think any of us are glad we grew up in the org.
but i was thinking about people who get cancer, and if they are lucky enough to beat it often they will say that they were better for the experience.
before they got cancer they were stressed because they had to work extra hours in a shitty job to make ends meet, the kids were nothing but trouble and they spent their lives wishing that time would go faster, that week would be over, that the year would be over.

As of today, I will no longer be one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
by Knowsnothing ini spoke with my mother, told her everything, my doubts, my fears, my sins.
it came rushing out.
my mother is devastated.

Excellent job Blondie. I was reading some of my "friends'" Facebook statuses this morning saying how timely and 'beautiful' this WT article was. Same ol' thing nevertheless.
Keep up the good work!

Whats changed since you were baptized????
by karter ini was baptized in 1986.. 2 generation changes..
-
Bucholz
@Karter. It's been actually 3 generation changes since 1986:
1994: The generation is made up of worldly people
2005ish: The generation is made up of the anointed class.
2010: The generation is made up of 'overlapping' generations of the anointed class.

What do you think of the pictures (both illustrations and photos) in WT literature?
by Chemical Emotions ini used to really like the drawings as a kid.
the artists, i think, are usually pretty good, not so much at portraying emotions but in technical ways.
the photos always seemed silly to me.. so what do all of you think?.
-
Bucholz
Well, the illustrations in the "Bible Stories" book gave me a couple of nightmares as a child. The one where the city of Jericho is destroyed, the one where a baby is held upside down before Salomon, the one where everybody dies during the Flood, and so on.

I met a 17 year-old girl in a neighboring congregation, Df'd while pregnant (she was my cousin's BF). She was the only one in her family in 'the truth'. She continued attending meetings and conventions, then faded and never came back. (This one had a Happy ending)

I decided not to go back to the KH
by Bucholz inwell, as i mentioned before in one of my few other posts, i've been lurking here for some time now and finally decided it was time to face the facts and take action.. i was raised a jw (4th generation) and my parents were quite zealous when they got married.
mom was a regular pioneer and dad was a ms. i was the little jw 'rockstar' in my congregation, got baptized at 10, was giving talks and serving as an attendant at the hall and at conventions at such an early age.
auxiliary pioneered whenever i could.

Thanks a lot for your comments guys.
@partydelights Yes, I have thought about the shunning and everything it implies, in fact even though my 'friends' from the congregation are not shunning me (I still have them on Facebook, Twitter etc) they no longer include me in their recreational activities, since I no longer attend meetings. I'm perfectly fine with that. I don't blame them or harbor any resentment towards them, that's just the way they were indoctrinated. Plus, I've been making some REAL friends, so I'm not alone. Hope to hear more from you.
