This is not one of the locations that I'm personally involved with, but one where others of like mind took the bull by the horns. However, without saying too much to alert the WTS where the next fire will erupt, there hopefully will be more News Articles like this one in the upcoming months. There are still several potential scandal locations which noone that I am aware are working on, so please continue to contact the media and local government officials in ALL cities where the WTS has been holding conventions for years.

The $12,000 will help pay for renting the Tri-Cities Coliseum, which Kennewick owns.
The money is coming from the cities' 2002 hotel-motel lodging tax fund. Half of the first 2 percent of the tax from each city goes to the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau, and the rest is divvied out as each city desires.
The Kennewick and Richland councils approved giving motel-hotel tax money to the Tri-Cities Hotel and Motel Association.Each council was told by staff that the money would be "solely for the purpose of paying all or any part of the cost of tourism promotion, acquisition of tourism-related facilities, or operation of tourism-related facilities," activities allowed under state law.
Using the money to subsidize the coliseum rent is questionable, said Keith Lougheed, a specialist in the state auditor's office on lodging tax use."It doesn't sound right," Lougheed said. But unless someone from one of the cities complains to the auditor, it's unlikely the state will investigate, he said.
"Generally we don't interfere. We do audits (after the fact)," he added. "This is one I would pass by the attorney general."
Kennewick Councilman James Hempstead, chairman of his city's Local Tax Fund Advisory Committee, said he thought the $6,000 donation was for tourism promotion of the Watchtower events. This is the 10th year the convention is coming to the coliseum.
Association President Ginny Hill said Tri-City hotels and motels have been chipping in money to help pay the coliseum rent for the Watchtower convention for nine years. This is the first time the association has received a share of the cities' lodging tax money to subsidize the rent, she said.
This year, the difference between the rent due and what the Jehovah's Witnesses can pay is $17,500.
With $6,000 each from Richland and Kennewick, motel association members have to come up with the remaining $5,500, Hill said.
Tom Walker, whose term on the Kennewick council expired Dec. 31, said he, too, understood that the money was "specifically for promotion or advertising" of the Watchtower event, but he didn't know exactly how the association was going to spend it.
Other council members in Kennewick thought the same. Mayor Jim Beaver could not be reached for comment on the issue.
But Robert Noland, Kennewick's chief financial officer, said he was aware the money was "going to the coliseum to help pay for the rent," and he believes it is a proper use of the tax money.
"It can be argued that it is going for tourism," Noland said.
Although Kennewick could have discounted the rent for the convention and preserved the lodging tax money for other uses, Noland said the way it is being done benefits the bottom line on the coliseum, which has struggled to operate in the black. "We're trying to run the coliseum as a business," he said.
Promotions Management Inc., which oversees the coliseum for the city, reported just breaking out of red ink in 2001, when it was hoped to have at least $226,000 in profits.
Richland Councilwoman Rita Mazur said giving the lodging tax money to help with the coliseum rent may appear to be a subsidy for Kennewick's coliseum, but it's well worth it."Our (Richland's) hotel-motel tax committee agreed to it," she said, noting the convention is expected to generate 29,000 visitors over five weekends and bring $9.5 million to the Tri-Cities.
Richland council members were advised by a staff memo that the $6,000 donation would "complete the bid packet" and help "retain the convention in the Tri-Cities and expand the event to five weeks in 2002."

AS I POINTED OUT in my reply to the TROLL LDH, the continuing LONGO DRAMA presents an opportunity to explain "JW Shunning" to the Media. Whether or not shunning played a role in Christian Longo's downhill slide which culminated in mass-murder is OBVIOUSLY something that could only be determined after further investigation.
Whether or not it did, the Media will still get an education on this subject.
NOW, whether anyone here wishes to write to one or more of the dozens of newspapers, television stations, etc. THAT IS UP TO THEM.
Just like the scandal that the WTS has been obtaining tax dollars (directly and indirectly) to subsidize Conventions, I will work with folks who can get things done.
Readers can help wth one or both of these issues, or they can sit arond here pissing and moaning.
THE WORK will get done whether people here help or not. It's whatever your conscience allows. You can be a spectator or you can be a player, OR you can be a TROLL like LDH, UR, Prince, their buddies, and their numerous additional identities.

There hopefully will be more like this one in the upcoming months. Please continue to contact the media and local government officials in those cities where the WTS has been holding conventions for years.
I would particularly like to point out that this story demonstrates what a few committed workers can accomplish despite efforts from people like LDH (see comments above).
(Also refer to the 2 threads posted yesterday in which LDH tries to pull the same crap with another effort to contact the media about "shunning" and its possible effect on the LONGO story. LDH must be a WTS Troll, but her efforts are obviously not working.)

Experts: Longo has traits of killer
Suspect fits the profile for familicide, say criminology experts.

A combination of stress, depression and a romanticized vision of family contributes to the majority of cases in which a parent kills his or her spouse and children, national criminology experts said Friday.
Those characteristics, usually found in white males in their 30s and 40s, match the profile of Christian Michael Longo almost perfectly, said Dr. Charles Patrick Ewing, a professor of law and psychology in Buffalo, N.Y.
Even before police issued an arrest warrant for Longo late Friday afternoon, evidence found along the Oregon Coast pointed to a family member, said Ewing, who teaches at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
"It's virtually always another family member," Ewing said. "It's extremely rare to see an entire family killed by an outsider. There's not the motive or the opportunity."
Longo, 27, faces four charges of aggravated murder for the deaths of his wife, Mary Jane, and three young children. Their bodies were pulled from Yaquina Bay and a nearby Waldport slough over the past week.
Ewing said men who commit familicide — the killing of an entire family — usually are extremely controlling and picture themselves as so central to the family's existence that other members couldn't live without them. When the control is challenged, or the ability to support the family is lost, they resort to extreme measures.
"Their initial impulse is suicidal," said Ewing, a forensic psychologist. "They're men who have experienced the loss of job and financial ability. They reach the conclusion that their family would be better off dead than without them."
When Christian Longo moved to Oregon in early September, he left a trail of debt and petty crime in Michigan. The Ann Arbor News reported Friday that he owed more than $60,000, half of which was restitution for several forgery convictions. He also was accused of stealing two crab rings worth $50 in Lincoln County, and of lying about where he worked.
The handful of U.S. familicide cases each year are usually committed by men, who in turn kill themselves. Ewing said women can commit familicide, too, although it's far less common and they usually turn themselves in to police soon after.
One of the nation's most famous cases of familicide has local ties. Jeffrey MacDonald — an Army surgeon convicted of killing his wife and two daughters — is serving three life sentences at the federal prison in Sheridan.
MacDonald has maintained his innocence since the morning of Feb. 17, 1970, when military police at Fort Bragg, N.C., discovered the bloody bodies of his pregnant wife, Colette, 26, and the couple's children, Kimberly, 5, and Kristen, 2, hacked and bludgeoned in their bedrooms. MacDonald himself was found unconscious, with multiple stab wounds.
The murders and the resulting trail were the subject of author Joe McGinniss' best-selling book, "Fatal Vision," and a made-for-TV movie of the same name.
While police continue to search for Christian Longo along the Oregon Coast and the San Francisco area — where he was last spotted around Dec. 26 — others cautioned that the case is far from closed.
Bill Gaut, a retired homicide detective in Naples, Fla., said good detectives solve cases by refusing to jump to conclusions, even when statistics point in a particular direction. Gaut, who worked in law enforcement for 25 years in Birmingham, Ala., said about 80 percent of all homicides are committed by family members or friends.
"The main thing is, you don't draw immediate conclusions," Gaut said.
"If you do, you have a tendency to develop evidence that supports that theory. That leads lots of rookie investigators to dead ends."
That could explain why police waited several days before issuing the arrest warrant for Longo.
Most law enforcement agencies throw all their available resources at a homicide case in the first three days, Gaut said. Lincoln County law enforcement task forces said they'd devoted about one-third of their 70-member agency to the case as of Friday.
If the case isn't solved after 72 hours, Gaut said the "solvability rate" goes down drastically. He said the discovery of the bodies of Longo's wife and 2-year-old daughter Thursday likely added fresh evidence to the case.
