Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Jed
Poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed
Then one day he was shootin' at some food
And up through the ground came a bubbling crude
(Oil, that is, Texas tea, black gold)

RR:
[quote]They flipped flopped on this issue about twenty times since the 1960s.
Nice work, as usual.
The changing stance precedes the 1960s, and as usual it is easier to over exaggerate than try to be accurate.
This criticism -S&G- is lame anyway. Does anyone who is a Bible believer really expect anyone else to know who will or won't be resurrected?

why has this magazine ignored the un story?

It would be nice if those people here "in-the-know" would post the WTS's Answer to the suit, as well as any Rulings which may have occurred. How many days has it been since the suit was filed? There's bound to have been something going on in the meantime.
I'm fairly confident that the WTS knows everything about their own answer and any rulings, so why not let the rest of us in what is going on?

Dateline program
by uncle_onion inis there any chance that someone can tape the dateline program for me and get it to me in pal format please?
i would of course pay the expenses.. uo

I am as anxious as anyone to see the program, but "we" are not the intended audience.
Between the Afghan War, the WTC cleanup, the Economy, Anthrax, and who knows what else in the coming weeks, (Iraq is likely coming), the General Public, including JWs, are so numb to atrocities that if the show runs anytime soon, it will barely be even noticed.
The worst part is that there is no end in sight to all the related world events, and Dateline will likely run it sometime in the midst of such.
Oh well.

WTS Spokesman Craps On Foreign JWs
by MadApostate intake a gander at this ins report, and read what brooklyn bethel considers, and doesn't consider, "problems" for their fellow jws in foreign countries.. so long as they beat, detain and imprison our brothers and sisters, that is not a problem.
but if they fuck with our literature shipments to those same jws, then that is a problem.
response to information request:.

OH:
Abkhazia was/is/has been historically tied to Georgia, and this report obviously lumps in the same paragraph commentary re Abkhazia in with commentary re Georgia.
However, after a night's sleep, and re-reading the report, it is not absolutely clear that the writer obtained his info/impression re Georgia and Abkhazia from Charles Molohan. Thus, I will retroactively reserve opinion about the comments made in that paragraph.
However, this part of the report unquestionably came from the writer's telephone discussion with Molohan:
There have been reports of Jehovah's Witnesses imprisoned for refusing to perform military service because there is no civilian alternative to military service for conscientious objectors. However, Watchtower does not consider this a particular problem, since Jehovah's Witnesses are imprisoned in a number of countries for evading conscription.
This comment alone is a slap-in-the-face to thousands of JWs across the globe who have endured thousands of years in prison. To the boys at Bethel, who are all nice and cozy in their Brooklyn fortress, such is merely seen as "a cost of doing business". Kinda like talking about shoplifting with WalMart HQ. Yeh, they wish it didn't happen, but the reality is such that they accept and deal with it without much emotion. -

The excerpt below is from a Court Opinion out of Arizona. Now, I know JWs are not the only people who have Bible Studies, or shun people, etc, but does anyone else get the feeling these people are JWs?
--------------------------------------
FACTUAL AND PROCEDURAL HISTORY
¶2 MIGS is a plastic products manufacturing company located
in Clarkdale, Arizona. The Stevensons are the sole stockholders of
MIGS, and Mike Stevenson is the CEO of the company. Mr. Cummins,
who is blind, was hired by MIGS in September 1994. After a brief
stint in the Art Department, Mr. Cummins was transferred to the
Management Information Systems (MIS) Department, where he input
data and performed network maintenance.¶3 The plaintiffs contend that in the fall of 1995, Arthur
Brault, a MIGS employee, told Mr. Cummins that Mike Stevenson wanted him to copy Bible study software onto Brault's computer
system. Mr. Cummins refused to do so on the basis that it may
constitute an illegal copying of software. Mr. Cummins advised his
supervisor, Mel Smart, of the incident, and, according to Mr.
Cummins, Mr. Smart agreed that it was an inappropriate request and
advised him not to copy the software.¶4 Shortly thereafter, Chris Eymann, a MIGS employee and the
Stevensons' son-in-law, requested Mr. Cummins' assistance in
copying Stevenson's Bible study software onto Brault's computer.
Again, Mr. Cummins refused, explaining he did not believe such
copying was appropriate under the copyright laws. The parties
never addressed whether any licenses existed that would permit the
software to be copied.
¶5 The plaintiffs assert that, over the course of the six to
seven months following these two incidents, MIGS' employees and
Mike Stevenson engaged in a course of conduct that amounted to
intentional infliction of emotional distress and wrongful
termination of Mr. Cummins. The plaintiffs complain, inter alia,
that employees at MIGS began to shun Mr. Cummins, that management
approved vacation time and then reversed its position, that Mr.
Cummins' position was changed from that of a salaried employee to
an hourly employee, that he was no longer allowed to accrue
overtime, that Mike Stevenson openly chastised and rebuked him in
an off-site Bible study, that his network security access was
revoked, that his job description was changed to include activities
that he could not perform, that management instituted a policy that Mr. Cummins perceived applied only to him, that he was given no
meaningful work, that his hours were reduced, and that he was
eventually terminated. By contrast, MIGS claimed that Mr. Cummins'
termination was due to company downsizing.¶6 The plaintiffs filed this lawsuit against the defendants,
alleging claims for breach of contract, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, wrongful discharge in violation of
public policy against handicap and religious discrimination,
intentional infliction of emotional distress, and violation of the
Arizona Civil Rights Act,...
