what if a powerful government were to hatch a plot to exterminate jehovah's witnesses as an organization?.
they ask this question at the bottom of page 23 of the july wt, and i thought the wording was kind of strange.
the target is not jws "the people" (as in nazi germany) but the org alone.
Fear is one way to keep the flock in line. I agree with those who have said this is their way of saying Armageddon is right on track, scaring their hearts into thinking they are being/will be targeted.
To be honest, I haven't met anyone, or heard any sort of body, going against the JWs specifically, but who knows...

i find myself attracted to certain authors and book series.. which reminds me, i need to download the grapes of wrath.. i love steinbeck's writing of historical fiction.
looking into the history of frontier america is so interesting when written in story form.. i read from most genres.. what's your poison?.
I have not one, but TWO, library cards, different cities, different coasts!!! And I read the heck out of books! I love books! I am very lucky to have such a gigantic library in my city, because I go through books like nothing :).
That said... I have a dirty little secret: I read YA. God I am a sucker for a good YA novel!!!
But yeah reading is NOT overrated. It's attractive, it can be the gateway to amazing litarary experiences, and it is an art in itself!

You know, those other wild, slutty girls knew exactly what you guys knew, that the JW brothers wanted to milk the cow, but not buy it. I don't know if you guys were bullied by them, but I've seen them in attack mode. We had many depressed girls-and guys- and I always thought it was absolutely insane how nobody did anything. That was the other crazy thing... the social 'caste', in a way. The bullying. But I'm glad you made it through talespin!!!

See, JWs grow up repressed. We can't do ANYTHING. I know they say that's not true, JWs do have fun... but then they slowly take away those fun things. Double lives are the norm it seems, except for those few of you who are actually good kids! I was a bad egg though, I wasn't as wild but I did looooove corrupting the good ones and make them think for themselves ;)
And yes, plan is the morning after pill. It was surprising to me because I would expect her to be on birth control at least!

I remember thinking how crazy it was that my JW friends were so WILD, while my worldly friends were so MILD. The JW friends I had were mostly popular girls in highschool, drinking, partying, doing pot and having sex, and whenever I would tell my mom, she wouldn't believe me!!!
I have another story: Two years ago I went back to Chicago, where I'm originally from. I received a text from an old JW friend, the one who slept around, did pot, drank and hated lesbians. So my husband and I pick her up in the middle of the night, and she tells us she needs ten bucks and a ride to Walgreens. She asks me to accompany her, she takes me to the pharmacy and tells me, straightfaced: I need you to buy the plan b.

Nineteen years old, living with her JW parents, baptized young woman... who was broke, needed plan b, and wanted ME to buy it because she could not risk her reputation. When I told my husband, he couldn't believe it!

Bwuahahaha very very true!!! It was the same with Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners. I knew many families who would cook turkeys/hams the NEXT day, invite a bunch of friends, and claim that it was ok, because they weren't celebrating Thanksgiving, no sirree!!!
My mom was one of them. I hang my head in shame, because I actually enjoyed the meals :D
NewChapter, I remember the caomping trips!!!! Those were my favorite!!! Before the economy in the States took a nosedive, every summer we went to Michigan/Wisconsin/Indiana with other families, and regardless of what went on in the meetings, those few days were the best!!!!
I also thought it was cold to take it away. The little old ladies were sad about it :(.

Turns out that in those times my parents allowed my brother to sleep-over at Brother A's house, A would invite his older brother (B) and another good-standing youth to strip clubs :o. They would drink at Brother B's apartment as well.
This shocks me, which shouldn't, but does, because I've know A, B and C for YEARS and I truly thought they were very into the religion and all that.
Ha, so I guess there were more living the double life...
Out of (morbid) curiosity, what was the most shocking thing to find out about a fellow sister/brother?
