Congratulations Andi - you rock!

a few minutes before the services started, the townspeople were sitting in their pews talking.
suddenly, satan appeared at the front of the room.
everyone started screaming and running for the entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate.. soon everyone had exited the church except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seeming oblivious to the fact that god's ultimate enemy was in his presence.. satan walked up to the old man and said, "don't you know who i am?".
Congratulations Andi - you rock!
All best,
Mak and Sabine
last week, i told about how i watched the christmas eve sky, for santa claus, after my parents became witnesses, thinking he just didn't come to our house anymore.. here is another thing i did.
all through school (my parents became dubs before i went to kindergarten) i participated in decorating the room for christmas.
i sang all the carols, and ate the goodies that were brought my the moms.
Hi Mulan - great memories, thanks for sharing. I had almost forgotten in 4th grade singing along with the other kids in the gymnasium at a school assembly. It was right before christmas, so lots of wintertime songs (my mom had a wonderful singing voice and I think secretly liked all the xmas songs too) and Christmas songs. I held back for awhile and did not join in, but since mom said I could sing "jingle bells" when they started that song I joined in "full throated". Then got caught up in the moment and sang all the rest of the "pagan" songs, LOL. My teacher who knew I was a witness, embarrassed me a bit when we got back to the classroom. She told everyone else that even though Mak did not celebrate xmas, he knows the words, and showed more enthusiasm for the music than the rest of the class. BUSTED!
My excuse, beautiful melodies and chord changes, which as a young musician I could appreciate.
Further mental musings about xmas music brought to mind the song - "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", which in turn brought up that song we all sang at the KH -something about "Herald Forth..da da da da da da da da.." which in turn brought to mind my wife Sabine and I changing the words to "Dorothy forth...." why ??????
One of the elders in the cong was named Harold and his very nice wife was named Dorothy - so we inserted her name in the place of Harold, until one day we got caught and told it was approaching blasphemy to make fun of the KH songs.....whatever.
Ahhh word association and memories....I know I am a strange fellow!
Great post Marilyn! See ya soon!

my mother called me and asked me to pick up my sister because my grandfather is going to pass away in a few hours.
i don't know why this is moving me so much, but it is.
it's like my history is passing away.
Ash - (((hugs))) to you and your family. I am not much for praying these days, but definitely wish comfort and good things for you.
Your post brought back memories of my grandfather on my mom's side. He passed away when I was 12 years old.
Never a JW - was LAPD starting in the 1920's until he retired in the late 1940's. He drank, gambled and smoked heavily, however, was a very interesting man to be around and had some incredible stories of Los Angeles. One of his favorite pasttimes was reading westerns by Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour. He read to me when we visited, and gave me some of his books to read. Still miss him.
All best,

i am a 32 year old female.
i think my view of sex and relationships is pretty much screwed up.
i was taught that all men are dogs and that all they want is sex.
IWish - I agree with you, and your parents to a large degree. First, the JW "cocoon" does not prepare you for the real world of dating. It is meant to shelter and protect until you find the janitor of your dreams.
There are a few men out there who may sincerely be looking for a relationship beyond a one night stand - however, at the risk of generalizing, for the most part the men you meet are watching your lips move (while not hearing a word you say) and are wondering what you look like naked. Whether that makes them dogs or just "guys" is up to you.
Have you ever listened to Tom Leykus (LA radio talk show, but syndicated nationally)?
While I don't agree with a lot of his views, his opinions on men, women, dating and sex as spouted in his Thursday PM "Leykus 101" class are painfully accurate and honest. He also does not believe that men and women can be "just friends". Sooner or later one or both want to take it to the next level.
I wish you well - have fun, but please be careful.

i was wondering if anyone has ever felt like they were in a relationship where the person is an empty bottle with holes in the bottom, and you are constantly trying to fill them up?
i was listening to the song not the doctor by alanis and it triggered this in my brain.
i would love to know everyones thoughts and experiences on this..... steph
Richie - you have very well defined the extent of my relationship even with the few JW's I still consider to be "friends".
You said: There was literally no one you could really confide in and tell them exactly what was on your mind. The first thing they would have done is to run to an elder and then say to me that it is for my own good.
So I could never get serious with any of them, but keep a superficial relationship going while keeping my thoughts to myself most of the time. "
Sad, but true.

i was talking on the phone about a week ago with a poster from this forum, and when he found out i was from south bend, indiana, he asked me if i had gotten together with the group of indiana posters that were having a small gathering (around bloomington i think?).
the truth is, i havent had one-on-one contact with too many from this board up till now, save some frequent chat room visitors, so i didnt realize we had an indiana following.
after my name appeared on the whos who page, i did get emails from a couple people familiar with the area, but i would like to get in contact with the rest of the indiana posters.
Hey Dubla! Greetings. I grew up in Valpo, Portage area but moved to the West Coast in the early 70's. I get to Chicago a few times a year on biz, and have traveled to South Bend to visit with Fiserv/Datalink. Will give you a holler the next time I do. From what I have read of your other posts, would enjoy chatting about the market with you.
What does your crystal ball say? I would prefer a steady slow climb, but looks like another severe plunge could happen Dec/Jan?
All best,

justice 19 concern for lost sheep.
jesus said, what do you think?
if any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine sheep, and go to the mountains, and seek that which goes astray?
Interesting story Amazing. Reminded me of a bible student that I had who moved away to a new congregation. "Progressed" well, lots of hours, talks, made MS and then due to severe family problems divorced his wife. Elder body was split on the scriptural basis of the divorce. Long story short, removed as MS and put on private restrictions - no prayer, bible reading only etc. Two years later, and average of 30 hours a month in service, he asked to aux pioneer and was rejected. Was told the "conscience of the body" would not allow it.
Anyone else run into this "conscience of the body (BOE)" thing before?
Mak
dear friends,.
i will try not to make this a maudlin goodbye.
well, maybe a tad maudlin, but not goodbye .
Bridgette: very well said. I wish you well during your break. I have only been posting, and lurking for a few months, so I am sure I have missed most of your previous posts. I intend to keep an eye out for them, and for what it's worth have added your name to "my list of fav posters".
Take care!
Mak
ok what is it with male jw's and guitars?
it seems like it's a badge of spirituality or something.
you go to a congregation bbq or something, and there's always at least three brothers sitting around endlessly playing the same few chords over and over again.
Hey Ex - do I detect a note of jealousy? LOL. Very funny post, because I am guilty of "I'm so cool it's painful" straining-on-the-toilet expression on their faces" - most likely because I am trying to hit the same notes Neil Young does.
Too funny!
Having started on the piano when I was 8, playing at assemblies, weddings, parties, etc., I discovered that a piano was not so portable so like Englishman, took up the guitar. (do a pretty mean Wonderful Tonight myself thankyou) My wife, who was never one to swoon over my musicianship, is much more pleased when I sit at the piano and play something classical.
All that aside, you have to be a musician to understand. AND, it's not just for the reasons that prompted David Crosby to say - "Guitar players tend to get laid earlier and more often"!!
Mak
Ex - you too can become a "player". Roy Clark, formerly of Hee Haw will sell you a guitar, chord book and instruction video for less than $100 american. ;)
