LOL My mom gave away all of my dresses and skirts to others years ago! A few of the skirts, she kept to wear herself. Suddenly, there was tons of room in my closet!
I had one dress I wore to the last memorial I went to...and my friend was getting married at the Justice of the Peace and couldn't find anything to wear.... We were the same size, so I gave her the dress, the matching blazer and the shoes!

C.O. visit; They sound desperate.
by TonyT inmy mother recently told me that the congregation was scolded by their district sales manager....errr circuit overseer for poor meeting attendance.
it seems that at times attendance would sink as low as 60%.
she didn't respond when i said that maybe there was something good on television that night.

I can remember one brother who could understand why a sister who had a baby on Friday wasn't at the meeting on Sunday...
Oops, they missed two days of preaching to that child. What a crime! -

I hate cleaning the fridge. I try not to let stuff in there too long, because if something is spoiled, the smell gags me.
I used to hate mopping, but I have a swiffer wet jet, and it is awesome. I don't have to mess with buckets, so that makes it a ton better. Our last house didn't have a dishwasher, and I hate doing dishes by hand too.
Oh, my 3-year-old son always gets grubby fingerprints on the door handles and frames. I try to keep up with him, but I find his handprints everywhere, and I hate wiping down the doors all the time. -

Yes, but only because his righteous god-fearing daughters got him drunk. Course it must have been some special god-approved wine if he could get it up twice, AND impregnate TWO daughters while so drunk he didn't know what he was doing...
Oh, okay. Thanks Odrade. Been a long time since I thought about it, but it just popped in my head reading about Lot. -

A 1914 generation question
by Pwned ini was around in 1995, barely, but i dont remember any talks or articles where the new light about the generation of 1914. did they change w/o coming right out and saying so,or was there a talk.
especially in regards to the mission statement or whatever in the awake, did they make an announcement or did they just hope no one would notice?
i just cant believe that there wasnt a mass exodus after that, my family never mentioned the change to me, i didnt even know til years later on this site.

I just try to point out little things to my mom that don't mesh. This generation change was huge, but it seems it didn't effect the dubs the way it should have.
It's like someone told you that you were going to be selling your house and buying a new one on a certain date, but then, it doesn't happen. You don't visit the bank to get the loan, no one comes to appraise the house, the for sale sign never appears and you've only seen pictures of the new house...never visited. Nothing happens. Then, you're told, "Well you'll move someday, but I don't know when right now. I can't be sure of the date." It would be natural to be disappointed. The whole concept of no one seeming to care about the change doesn't make sense.
My mom has an incredible amount of faith in God (and the org). I used to think her faith was admirable...she can believe in things she can't see, and I am a doubter. But, blindly following someone/thing isn't really faith. -

Great comments Blondie!
Didn't Lot sleep with his daughters so they could have children and further his lineage because there were no other men (faithful men?) around? I don't see where he was such a good man... -

Remembering growing up as a JDub hurts...
by misspeaches inyou know i've been fading for 18 months now.
i come from a smallish city of about half a dozen congregations so just about everyone knows everyone so its not such an easy thing to do.
growing up as a jdub was so hard and awful.

(((Miss Peaches)))
I was in the same situation. My dad was not a witness, but my mom was/is. We weren't invited to anything. My babysitter was another JW, and she had a whole scrapbook of pictures from get-togethers where all the other kids from the KH were there. I felt so sad when I saw that.
I have a really hard time relating to people, and I never felt normal. I've been making friends lately, and it does get easier. Especially since I don't believe they are all going to die at A. No one should grow up thinking that about their peers!
Please hang in there and feel free to vent anytime! -

I stopped going in 93, and I didn't know about this until about 2001. I read it somewhere online, and I asked my mom about it. She told me about it and the "new light." She gave the line about Jesus stating no one knows the time or hour.
I reminded her that I was told repeatedly I would not graduate from high school, and I had in 94. She tried to say she had never said that! HA! I remember she did along with other family members and elders from the platform. If I had still been going when it was announced, I would have left! I have had to let go of a lot of anger over not being able to do things because no one thought this system would last much longer.
I asked her what if she gets old and it hasn't come.... She is in her early 50's now. She had tears running down her face and told me that she has faith in Jehovah, that we will stop all this suffering and death. I wish I could get through to her. -

Could a sister have hair this long?
by JH in.
men must have short hair in the org.. does this mean that sisters can have their hair as long as they want?.
-
Mamacat
I had long hair until I was 11, and my mom finally relented and let me cut it. It does not feel good when you accidently sit on your hair, and it gives you whiplash!
Later, I had a short bob, just below my ears. I got talked to by an elder who told me that hair above the shoulders for women was a "worldy" sign of lesbianism. He may have read the scripture quoted above.
I asked him what it was he wanted me to do...as hair doesn't grow that quickly! He didn't have an answer.
My mom tried to make me grow it out...she used to think I was weird for buying boys' running shoes (less expensive, fit better)...so this just added to her lesbian theory. -

How many should partake this year at the memorial?
by M.J. inhow many should partake this year at the memorial?
how many of the original anointed, whose number was "sealed" in 1935 would likely be alive today?.
i've examined the general survival rate of people of this age group in the us.

I remember the first thing I would look at when the new yearbook came out is how many partakers there were. I believed it would drop steadily until it became close to 0. I figured it was an advance warning system thing. Then, I could work on being a good girl when the time was near. lol It would drop like 200 in a year...I did the math and figured out how many years away it was once. My mom once told me that it didn't mean anything because Jehovah could kill them all off quickly when A came. What a scary thought!
How do they explain that the number has actually went up in recent years?
