Dawn... I didn't understand it either! I know I already had 2 sons, but they were 4 and 6 when the youngest was born...She knew I didn't have any of their stuff anymore. She did a lot for me when I had my oldest, and sent me things overseas when I had my second.
It's 4 years later now, and I pregnant again...another boy. She's already asked me what I wanted and sent me a check so I can go buy it...they don't have any stores except Walmart where she lives, and they don't carry it.
I am not quite sure what happened that last time with her. Although, everytime she sees him now, she gets him things, but that's only been since she moved away. I was just really mad because I knew how much she spent on this JW mom, and I kept expecting her to give him something...anything!
I'm a big fan of celebrating EVERY baby, boy or girl, a year later or six years later, doesn't matter. I would never demand a shower or anything like that, but I think every baby deserves something new. My husband's family didn't send anything for him either, and that was his first baby. Maybe I just love baby shopping too much and like having an excuse to buy stuff. lol
I have a nice little stash of things for the new baby, and it keeps growing. I'm glad I don't think the Goodwill and Salvation Army are bad places anymore...I found some awesome little clothes that were brand new in those stores!

I grew up telling my dad that smoking would kill him...I was so adamant about it, but it didn't do any good back then. But, he just quit about 4 months ago, after over 40 years!
I smoked a few times as a teenager with friends, but I didn't like it. I started smoking regularly when I was 22...mostly because it irritated my husband (now ex) and he would tell me I smelled bad and leave me alone. Then, I couldn't quit.
I quit when I was pregnant with my last son and started back up again a few months after he was born. I've quit again with this pregnancy, but it is so hard still. I really don't want to start again, but the first thing I think of when I am stressed is to go get a smoke. My current husband nagged me about quitting constantly...but you really do have to quit because YOU want to..not what someone else tells you to do.
Good luck to everyone that has quit or is trying to. It is an addictive monster. -

(((Hugs))) Sorry you are feeling down today.
I am in a funky mood, too. I got some bad test results from the OB on the phone...I cannot wait for this pregnancy to be over and done with! But, it's still early to deliver guaranteed healthy (27 weeks), so I will hang in for awhile. Another round of gestational diabetes and some other weirdo infection that's bad for the baby, can cause pre-term labor, etc.
I can't do much about it until Thursday when I have another doctor's appointment. I wish I could just sleep until then. -

I didn't have any kids while I was in, but I remember everyone fawning over the new babies. I did it too, lol. I've always liked little kids. I don't remember anyone having a huge family though, two kids usually, three at the most.
When I was pregnant with my third son, a woman in my mom's congregation was due the same time as me. She was 19, and had been married about a year...her family is basically 50% of that congregation. There was a huge baby shower, and my mom asked me for advice on what to get her (for a baby girl, of which I have none lol). I helped her pick out something really nice.... My mom NEVER got me a gift for my son! I was so pissed. -

Did every congregation have one or two desperate singletons?
by diamondblue1974 in.
i remember in the kh i went to there was always at least one desperate singleton who would sniff around the single women particularly the ones which were his own age...he was mid 40s i seem to believe...never had a girlfriend and would have married anybody who wouldve had him.
there was no real harm in him...just lonely i expect but i think he made most women skwirm.. what about you...did your hall have its own resident 'single sister stalker'?

There was one in our congo. A brother, smart, mid 30's (in his early 50's now) average looking. He always was a little off to me, but it was said he had done drugs in the past and had an "emotional problem" because of the side effects.
He was after my friends' mom for a long time, but she was happy being divorced. I don't think she even went out with him once, but he was definitely on the stalker path.
Then, he married a 18 year old sister from another part of the state. Their marriage lasted 6 months, and she accused him of all types of things, which no one believed.
Then, about 8 years ago, he married a cousin of mine in her mid 20's.
Soon, the shi*t hit the fan...My cousin moved back in with her parents and filed for divorce. She said she wasn't allowed to say what had happened. She assured me that it was terrible, and it was all his fault.
I looked at the state sex offender registry purely by chance, and there he was, living in my zip code! At first, only his name was listed, no picture. Now, my mom knew that my cousin and him had broken up for something really serious, but she tried to convince me it was a case of someone having the same name. Soon, there was a picture posted of him, and there was no doubt.
I worry so much that he did something to one of my friends when we were growing up. He always gave me the creeps, so I stayed away from him as much as possible=, but others thought he was great. -

Relationships and age difference
by greendawn inpeople say that love is blind to age difference but when you have/had to strike a relationship or marry with someone what's the maximum age difference that is/was acceptable to you?

My parents are 12 years apart, and it seems to work for them. My mom is submissive though and likes to be told what she has to do, and my dad is a "rules the roost" kind of guy. I am not sure if that is part of the reason they got together or not.
My husband is 6 years older than me...before I met him, I had never dated anyone over 2 years older than me or one year younger. It's weird, because he used to seem like such a "grown up" to me. lol I was 22 when we met, and he was 28. If I sat and thought about it, it would bother me back then....I was barely in high school when he was putting his life on the line in the first Gulf War. I think I chose him because he was "stable", and I guess I keep him a little younger. I don't think I could go with someone much older than him though. Even at 6 years, he will start talking about stuff from the late 70's/early 80's that I don't remember at all, and it is frustrating sometimes. -

JWs and breastfeeding past infancy
by rebel8 inmy jw mother breastfed my sibs so long they remember it.
one she stopped feeding when she went to kingergarten; i kid you not.
my mother justified it by saying moses' mother breastfed him until whatever age and the bible encourages it.

I don't remember any of the JW moms breastfeeding. I never saw it until I was in my teens, and then not at the hall.
I remember when I was eight, a friend of mine took my doll and put it to her breast. I asked her what she was doing, and she said "feeding the baby." I didn't believe her and called her a liar, and we got in a fistfight about it. My mom had to come and straighten it out. She said something to the effect, "Yes, some babies eat that way, but we don't talk about it or show it to other people." No one had ever told me anything about it, and it wasn't done in my family.
My youngest son weaned when he was 17 months, but after he was one year, I felt weird nursing him in public and tried to avoid it. Not because of my feelings on it, but I was afraid someone would try to start something with me or think it was gross. One time, when my son was younger, someone said something rude loud enough that I could overhear, and my husband dealt with them. I had far more people say positive things about it when we were out, though.
In my women's studies class, breastfeeding came up, and my son was over one then, and I said he was still nursing a few times a day. I was afraid of the reaction, as most of the students in my college classes were about 7 years younger than me. But, everyone thought it was great and most of the younger women said they would want to nurse their future babies too. I believe it really is best for the baby, and as I get older, I care less and less about what others think of me. -

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?
by lucky ini'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

PaulJ--I read Odd Thomas about a month ago. I really enjoyed it!
I'd say Dickens' Great Expectations for me. It makes you realize how just one small thing could change your life and it's outcome forever.
