New "paradise" video preview? "Will you be there?"
by stuckinarut2 inmy wife (unstuck) just saw a new 2-3 min video in her ex jw facebook feed, depicting a "paradise" scene preview.. it was complete with aerial shots and slow motion montages, with moving music.. scriptures were quoted across the screen, such as rev 21:3,4. i shazamed the music, and it came from another "worldly" album called "world of dreams.future world music" (you should see the song titles from that album!).
is it an official wt video, or some private persons production?.
if it is official, they seem to have once again resorted to desperate emotional manipulation tactics..... anyone else know?

I cannot hope to offer anything beneficial to your project. I just have a few personal reflections which i have had very recently.
The similarities of the Gospel of Thomas and Buddhism are striking. I can see why it was not deemed appropriate to be put in the bible canon because it was not amenable to creating a power structure which must have been desirable for the Roman Empire. If one can be the same as Jesus by searching within oneself, then there is no place for external power structures.
Also, if one considers that there were many competing versions of Christianity in the early days that were fighting for domination, a version that emphased fellowship and creating group structures would seem to have an advantage over one which focused on a more individualised salvation.
On another note, regarding what Paul may or may not have written. I have had a negative view of Paul in some respects, particularly the way he spoke of women. I have only recently started to consider that those parts of the bible where he says these things probably were not written by him. They are found in Timothy which are highly disputed and a few verses in Corinthians which I read seem to be additions made at a later time, perhaps as a result of a margin note getting accidentally copied into the text. Its been stated that he actually spoke positively about women teaching and I think that is right, and now that I reassess the verses about women not speaking as not coming from him, it builds a picture of a man who I feel less antagonistic toward.

well jw life is boring so they've got that right. Personally i like intimate films where the drama is based on the interactions and relationships. I hope it does well enough that i can watch it on a download site at some point.

Interesting about the film Thewonderofyou
Beyond the story itself, what did you think of the movie? Was it done well, did it have the ring of truth regarding Jw procedures and terminology etc.
The only film I have seen with JWs as the main theme was that Danish film Worlds Apart which was pretty good, although i wasn't sure about the elders with beards.

No that seems to be how they are set up now. There was an interesting explanation in a recent podcast where i heard how in Australia it seemed like every congregation was a separate entity and therefore it could potentially make it difficult when suing the organisation for large child abuse payments. Money gets syphoned off from these entities in complicated ways to different other parts of the organisation & it makes it difficult for anyone to trace it or get hold of it. Someone else may be able to give a better idea but that's the jist. Its not normal, I don't think most other churches do it this way, but i can see why JW's might want to do it.

Russia - JWs Counterclaim

it is a contradiction to what they have written in their "political neutrality' leaflet which states.
jehovah’s witnesses do not involve themselves in political issues or governmental affairs.

Yeah I could see the letter writing campaign as lobbying but to be fair, I can't see they have done anything hypocritical beyond that. They are counterclaiming on a point of law which already exists and requests that it is adhered to.
The actions of the Ministry of Justice possess the indicators of political repressions, from the point of view of Russian and international law. They violate articles 18, 9, and 6 of the Convention on Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Liberties.
