Very interesting. They even seem to be promoting it with jw.org. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the tech world as you mentioned. Lots of companies are doing this, IBM, KFC, GNC... These are known as a TLA (three letter acronym). But it isn't unusual to see two letters as well, HP comes to mind. So it looks like the JWs are just jumping on the bandwagon. Seems a bit odd from a religion who's main purpose is to promote the name of God

JW vs Jehovah's Witnesses
by Da.Furious inapologies if this was discussed earlier.
i tried to search for a similar topic but couldnt find one.. anyway, i am an active jw or is it jehovah's witness?.
recently i noticed a trend, mainly found between teenagers and older techie brothers, of referring to themselves as jws.

Ruderhead, I can't find where it says "that being punctual brings honor to the image of the governing body"
While looking I noticed that it said "if we are habitually late, it gives others the impression that we consider our time to be more valuable than theirs"
Who are these others that they are speaking of?
Seems like an effort keep people in line by creating peer pressure where there wouldn't normally be any.
And as molybdenum pointed out in another thread, they say that "Punctuality has become the exception during these last day"
Says who?

May KM 2014 - Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
by Ultimate Reality incourtesy of watchtower87, the may 2014 km has an announcement on page 4 as follows:.
"beneficiaries of a government program known as deferred action for childhood arrivals (daca) may apply to serve as temporary bethel family members or temporary volunteers.
when answering questions regarding citizenship on the application, these individuals should identify themselves as daca beneficiaries.".

LOL, it's not really for children, it's adults that came to the US illegally when they were children. They can't be any younger than 15.
http://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/consideration-deferred-action-childhood-arrivals-process
Still seems a bit opportunistic.

Trying to figure out what James 1:19 has to do with social media and having or being a freind.
19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
I also feel like they are using some sort of chicanery around the word meditation in this context.
If you are often late, meditate on the reasons why.
Although that migh just be my bias coming through.
Is this one of those things that could be negative but they are trying to put a positive spin on it?
As of February 1, 2014, the United States branch office began to oversee the territory and congregations in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. What unity among the more than 1.2 million publishers in the United States branch territory!
Nice

New Article on JW.org about gay people
by ateograciasadios inok, sometimes i go to jw.org just to laugh a bit about the 'food at the proper time', and i would like to know what people think of this hillarious article 'am i attracted to the same sex.
does that mean i am gay?'.
this has to be one of the most remarkable pieces of logic (last paragraph of the article).. the bibles stand is not unreasonable.

Watchtower said that there is usually a dominant sex and it does not require that they undergo surgery.
Now i'm not sure what to make of my grandmother's beard

Ingredients
by leaving_quietly inwtbts loves to compare themselves to chefs in a kitchen, preparing "spiritual food".
and we are to eat that food, without question.
i was thinking about this last night.

Their new light definitely seems to fit with the ever changing lists of what's healthy now in the food industry. The analogy seems like something the JWs might use to their advantage though. I can see them saying that, unlike the worldly food companies that are only out for profit, the FuDS are regularly changing their recipes to make them more healthy. So no need to keep checking the list of ingredients every time we change it.

Readng up a bit on intersex at http://www.isna.org/
Just an fyi it looks like hermaphrodite may now be considered derogatory. (soon to be "The H word")
Never had any idea how many different varieties of this condition there are:
http://www.isna.org/faq/frequency
Seems like this could pose quite a dilemma for religions with strict homosexuality biases.

TheListener,
I was around through the 80s and, although I don't ever remember reading it officially, that was always my understanding.
We did have a transgender coming to our hall for a while and they were told that to get baptised they would have to concede to being a man.
Concede may not be the right word but they would have to live like a man. I forget what we did for restroom usage. -

How exactly is the Holy Spirit 'directing' the WT?
by keyser soze init seems pretty impotent to me if it is.. let's assume, for the sake of argument, that they are merely 'spirit-directed', as opposed to 'inspired'.
and let's assume that there is even a difference(other than semantics) to begin with.
neither claim is validated by the end result.

Maybe it is, just not the way they think it is.
If someone was speaking in your name and you couldn't stop them directly what would you do? And if you could direct what they were saying so that it made them look stupid what would you do?
