Interesting point about those now dead that took the broad road. Especially when you consider that the only real difference is that they didn't have the JWs particular interpretation of the bible being preached to them by a small group of odd mostly uneducated people.

Me and the bible don't see eye to eye
by bobld inmatt 7:13 in the past 2000 years billions of people took the broad and spacious road to destruction.john 5;29 however, they will be resurrected.why!
would you retrieve a rotten apple from the trash.. james 1;15 desire-paraphased leads to sin and death.a married man desires and has sex with a woman.you could say he screwed himself to death.on the other hand a man with pure thoughts would not think of such a thing.he's going to die anyways.bummer.. james 1:17 a perfect gift from above.my ass, drought in california and snow to high heaven in boston.. one more james 1;22 become doers of the word (per john 1;14 the word is j.c.) how am i suppose to do something with the word that is somewhere in space.

Today's (4/12) WT study - all about Jesus
by OneEyedJoe intoday's watchtower study article is all about jesus.
this stuck out to me after a year of hanging out on here where one frequent point of criticism is that jws claim to be christians but never talk about jesus.. anyone think it's a coincidence that today was the "special talk" follow-up to the memorial?
i think not - this is the most attended sunday meeting of the year, complete with many ubms, studies, and miscellaneous other potential victims who have been subjected to a coordinated effort to pressure them into attending.

My favorite part:
How did Jesus show humility in his speech and in his actions?
He never called undue attention to himself. Instead, he directed all glory to his Father.
I never heard of Jesus wearing a jesus.org pin. And he never went around telling everyone how humble he was (or did he).
And I just noticed that the front page of jw.borg mentions Jehovah 3 times one of which is the title of a featured article. But it mentions Jehovah's Witnesses 6 times

Questions that were never answered for me
by WasOnceBlind ini have always been a very rational and thoughtful person.
there where always questions i had growing up regarding things i was taught.
of course asking questions while being a jw is a big no no!

Satan challenged Gods right to rule.
God lost that bet a long time ago and even more so if JW really are the one true religion.

Memorial Question?
by naazira inover the years, i've come to notice that some of the friends will not touch the plate with the bread or the cup of wine ,when the emblems are being passed around.
i remember a row of 3 people told the brother to skip over them.
every year i have noticed this behavior.

What would happen if life was found elsewhere?
by HowTheBibleWasCreated insee jws have said time and again jesus died once for all time... a quote from hebrews.
okay rule out humn-like aliens what about animals plants and microbes... i once had a hot fight with an elder when i still believed that here was no reason to doubt alien animals etc.
yet not based on any wt article witnesses reject this often.. lets suppose say in a month microbes are found on ceres (i doubt it will happen but let's roll with it) they are living as much as our cells are and reporduce... okay what would mother say in the magazines when millions of jehovah's witnesses demand to know why jehovah created microbes on a dwarf planet?.

They have already said that life on other planets wasn't likely because if there was they would probably have settled the universal question of who will worship god willingly.
My question has always been why can't the angels answer this question?
Maybe this whole universal question is a 5 out of 9 proposal and there are 9 other planets with human like creatures.

Even if everything about the "truth" was all true...........
by pontoon ini will say that one of the most distasteful teachings for me is the idea of praising, thanking, worshiping, god every day for all eternity.
what kind of ego needs that?
like if i ever saved a person's life i would say buy me a bottle of scotch and we'll call it even.

Unity or Uniformity?
by stuckinarut2 inthe feb 2015 broadcast finishes with a stupid "reminder" to remain united in worship etc.... the real definition of witness life though should be : uniformity!.
there is no room for individuality....there is no room for anything except complete mindless adherence to whatever the 7 in power dictate!.

Anyone catch their comparison to a class of students learning algebra being similar to the way JWs all learn the same thing the same way about the bible?
And it is just me or did they seem to do away with being modest in dress? I saw more than one gold watch and pinky ring.

How did you get through mind numbing meetings?
by minimus inas an elder, i used to find a legitimate reason to wander.

I used to talk through the entire meeting. A friend told me a story about when he was studying and came to one of the meetings during the CO visit. I was sitting near the front of the hall with a friend of mine and we were talking away during the CO's talk. The CO stopped the talk to give us a dirty look. Then he tells me I gave the CO a dirty look of my own and went right on talking. I don't know if it is true but I really hope it is. It does sound a bit like me.
I never really listened to a meeting until I was DFed, that's when I started to wake up.

Mormon 'support' for gays, pressure on the WTS?
by Simon inthe mormon / lds church has noticably changed it's stance toward homosexuality and instead of condemning it seems to be supporting protection for people's rights (of course they want to throw some protection for themselves in there as well).. how will this affect the wts?
the lds is the more-successful counterpart to the wts, similar age and history and same non-mainstream appeal.. i have no doubt that the lds church is only changing because they know which way the wind is blowing and society has completely changes it's attitudes towards gay people.
maybe they just want to stay ahead pf the curve before federal legislation enforces people's rights.. now, can we see the wts changing their views" will they be one of the last holdouts?

Probably just a PR stunt to help improve their reputation after the proposition 8 movie showed them in a pretty bad light. If you haven't seen it, it is probably worth watching. Makes me think twice about voting for a Mormon president.
But this really doesn't have a comparison to the JWs since they would never comment on something like this publicly.
I don't know if my area was unusual but knew a number of gay JWs and a few more I am pretty sure were gay. As far as I know it was always OK to be gay as long as you were celibate. But the same went for single straight people too. I didn't find JWs any more homophobic than the general public. If anything they were less so, I never new any JW that hated someone for being gay. As kids we made the usual jokes but even that wasn't with any malice, just stupid kids being stupid.
I'm sure they find gay marriage to be a sign of the times but to be honest I feel like the bible does condemn homosexuality and if you claim to believe the bible you would have to condemn homosexuality.
One thing I did find odd was how many JWs I knew didn't understand how you could be gay if you never had gay sex.
