  i just watched the oprah interview.

  i know that many view them with little interest as just entitled wastes of space and i get that.. however, the description of how they were "trapped" and silenced and forced into perpetuating the system with little or no personal freedom rang bells for me.

  they are effectively shunned, estranged and disparaged by their family and cut off from support.

  Except they knew that 100% going in. Probably, like anything else, she minimized how difficult it would be. No doubt because she grew up watching "Coming to America"
  

  At least some of the blame falls on Harry. He should have known better than anyone how it worked.

  My take is boo hoo you went through a bad time welcome to life. Except the rest of us don't get to retreat to a multi-million dollar mansion and make money doing a media circuit. In the few seconds I watched, even Oprah seemed to be trying to act like she cared.

  this is a sobering reminder of what happened some 40 years ago when raymond franz and others were literally kicked out from the jehovah's witnesses for having pre-arranged private spiritual discussions.lesson: paragraph 7 is another example of the i and t in dr. steven hassan's bite model of the 21st century cult - information and thought control at its best!!!!

  even beginning and ending such meetings with prayer

  WHAT??? Even if you agree that people shouldn't meet on their own, how is praying the cherry on top?

  "It's bad enough that you talked about bible stuff outside of the meetings but how dare you speak to God in the process." FDS

  What are these people supposed to do with their time?

  I would imagine JWs were hit pretty hard by the pandemic layoffs and many of them have a lot of extra time on their hands.

  I guess the gruel they are passing out isn't satisfying the spiritual hunger of the peasants any longer.

  One theme I've noticed on JWN is people mentioning how the JWs don't dig into the deeper things anymore. Instead they keep passing out the same old reheated leftovers over and over and over.

  Can you imagine being a good JW especially in the pandemic. Trapped in your house with only WT literature to read? (provided you are following all the other rules uhh I mean suggestions...)

  What a horrible religion. Throw a drowning man a waterlogged life-preserver and tell him he isn't aloud to kick his feet.

  Yea i must have missed that scripture that said of every animal you may eat but as for the blood you must put it into a centrifuge to separate it into separate parts. Some of those parts may be used while others are forbidden. Which parts are which is subject to change.

  The JW MO seems to be; Be different but leave something in place that we can point to to prove we're normal.

  Dressing up makes the JW feel special. If they didn't feel special they might start listening to the message. And we know what would happen then.

  Anyone here take any chance you get to tell others how dangers the cult is?

  i know i have made some uncomfortable at times and others have thanked me for telling them about the cult because some family member is one and they thought it was a bad cult but did not know details.

  personally i take every chance i get to tell others about the cult.

  Nope; I find most non-JWs don't want to hear about it, and there's nobody in the religion I have any interest in saving. I don't even think I'd have any interest in talking to most of my jw friends even if they decided to leave.

  When was your last Kingdom Hall meeting?

  i stopped going to kingdom hall meetings about nine years ago.

  i was fading for the longest time, refused to go out in field service, dropped out of the ministry school talks, no longer answered at the watchtower study, arrived at the meetings the last second, and left as soon as possible.

  i couldn't take attending the meetings any longer.

  I don't remember exactly when it was, 20 or so years ago, but my story is a bit spirtual. I am DFed and in an effort to go back I decided to "make the truth my own". In an effort to accomplish that I decided to really study the creation book looking up the references at the library. Just as I was coming to the realization that the creation book was full of it, not one, not two but the next three Sunday public talks were the exact same talk on creation. That was the last meeting I ever went to.
